"Why are you guys making this thing so creepy?" Silas asked, looking back at Asher.
At this point, with the way even Levi had acted, Silas had begun to feel unease.
And it was not just him.
All the students were scared.
Even if it was not all, at least ninety-nine percent were.
"In a case like this, where the void beasts suddenly stop going astray, it usually means that there is a sovereign leading them from behind."
Silas shrank.
"So, there’s a sovereign void beast here now?" He asked, staggering backward slightly.
"It is only a slim chance, not necessarily true."
"Why are you acting like a baby, are you scared of fights like this?" Sylvester asked from the side.
Silas nodded.
"I don’t want to die."
Sylvester furrowed his brows.
"Wow, I thought you were one of those people who always acted like a hero," he said.
"Me?" Silas shifted backward, as if to let Sylvester look at him properly. "Do I strike you as a hero?"
"I don’t think you want to argue about that now," Asher said, pointing towards the barrier’s edge.
The void beasts had begun to flood towards them, only being held back by the barrier Levi had set up.
Silas did not waste time; he gripped the controller tightly and shot towards the wave.
Most of the students had not seen the incoming beasts, but the beam of plasma was a signal to them.
They did not think twice; they shot towards the beasts.
For the first few rounds, it seemed like everything was under control.
The beasts were pulverised before they even neared the weapon.
"Torpedoes," Asher yelled into Sylvester’s ear.
Sylvester looked back, about to question Asher’s words.
But Silas did not care.
His hand moved in a blur, pressing hard against one of the buttons.
A massive piece of metal descended from their compartment, then launched towards the targeted area with a speed that made light feel slow.
It reached the area in an instant, detonating in a burst of white explosion that swallowed everything in its path, from void beasts to their remnants, to the very fabric of space.
Nothing was spared by the white flames.
All eyes whipped towards the source of the attack.
They could not understand the reason behind the sudden use of a torpedo.
Creak.
Space began to crack as something passed through it.
A massive humanoid figure stepped through from the haze.
Most of its body was charred, holes riddling its frame.
The students watched in horror as the being walked towards them.
Their bodies were frozen solid from the pure pressure it was emitting.
And this was from a distance, thousands of kilometers away.
"What are you waiting for?" Silas yelled, pushing Sylvester out of the torpedo controller.
His fingers pressed another button, launching another torpedo straight at the being’s head.
Another violent explosion rippled outward, detonating countless other beasts in its radius.
The being’s body was torn apart, the remains burning to cinders before they could drift far.
Silas stood rooted in place, eyes still on the spot where the being had stood. His mind was still shaken by the residual pressure of the being.
But he was not the only one.
His reaction could be said to be the calmest.
Beside him, Sylvester slumped backward, only caught by Asher who stood behind him.
"What was that?" Silas asked, steadying his mind.
"A void venerate," Asher replied almost immediately, as if he had been waiting for Silas to ask that question.
"How strong is that?" Silas asked with furrowed brows.
He had not researched void beasts to the extent of knowing their tiers.
"Comparable to an Enlightenment Realm cultivator," Asher replied.
"Enlightenment Realm?"
Silas’s face twisted.
"And we killed it so easily?"
Asher shook his head.
"No."
"Huh?" Silas muttered, furrowing his brows.
"That was merely a shell."
Silas froze.
"A shell?"
"Yes, Void Venerates possess an ability known as Incarnation, which allows them to hide their true bodies while sending fragments of themselves. The one we just killed contained just five percent of its power."
The shock in Silas’s eyes grew.
"Also, since the shell died, the true body will probably come soon," Asher added.
Sylvester, who was barely standing, felt the color drain from his face.
"What the hell is going on here? We were meant to breeze through this tide," he said, turning to look at Asher.
"Void tides are not meant to be predictable, neither are you meant to feel safe," Asher said, his tone slightly scolding.
"There’s no time for teaching now. Levi is not here, there’s no way to command the students, and a void venerate is upon us," Silas yelled, taking control of the railgun’s controller.
A soft click came from the compartment’s glass.
Silas’s clone shot out through the opening.
Then, in a sudden burst of aether, tore through the void towards the fire front, where Levi had been earlier.
"Are you sure about this?" Asher asked, seeing that Silas had deployed one of his clones.
Silas nodded, not bothering to look back.
Silas’s clone raised its hand, high enough for every student to see it.
The clone squinted its eyes.
Then, it saw it — the Void Venerate’s true body.
It was thousands of kilometers long, enough to dwarf even their planet-sized weapon.
"Fire all your torpedoes," the clone yelled, its words reverberating through the void of space.
The students frowned.
They saw nothing where Silas was pointing.
They hesitated.
Boom.
18 torpedoes launched out instantly.
Sylvester heaved heavily as he watched the torpedoes tear towards the being.
Billie and Amelia looked into each other’s eyes, then nodded.
They did not see what Silas had told them to shoot at, but they trusted him completely.
Hope’s teammate looked at her, his eyes twitching in mild annoyance.
"What did you do that for?" he asked.
But before the question could fully land, countless streaks tore through the void, everything flashing towards the being.
The students had risked it all, pouring all their torpedoes towards what they could not see.
But they trusted Silas.
He had led them to do the impossible before; there was nothing wrong in trusting him now.
