The Rank three spider let out a wheezing screech, its sharp legs digging into the rock as it moved forward, launching its bulged body straight at the two disciples.
Lin Yuan twisted his body on pure instinct. The dripping mandible tore through the empty air inches past his shoulder.
"Chen Ming, take the flank!" Lin Yuan instructed immediately.
"On it!" Chen Ming responded, his Wind-Falcon descended from above, its wings slicing through the air instantly.
A sharp blade of crescent shaped pressurised air slammed into the spider’s furry underside.
The monster staggered backward, its balance shattered due to the impact. Lin Yuan used the opening instantly. He lunged forward, his beast essence wrapping around his fist like a thick shell, and punched the spider with brute force.
Boom!
The spider blasted backward, crashing through curtains of sticky webs before tumbling down into a wide, black area far in the abyssal cave.
"Haha..." Chen Ming leaned against the cave wall, his chest heaving slightly. "We killed it, right, Lin Yuan?"
Lin Yuan didn’t answer. His gaze remained locked on the dark corridor. He felt something was off inside the darkness. Because there is no sound of the beast hitting against a stone; they heard a very dull thud which was like it hit into a furry object. And after that only silence remained for a few seconds.
Then a faint tap against the stone echoed from the darkness. Lin Yuan’s eyes squinted to see through the darkness.
Then, all at once he saw eight massive crimson eyes opened in the cave.
"Eh"Chen Ming’s face spasmed in confusion and disdain. "What... what the hell is that...?"
A large silhouette looked like moving forward slowly out of the abyss. One thick, furry leg appeared into the light, then another and slowly the beast crawled into the visible area, filling the place nearly touching its head to the roof.
It was eight to ten times larger than the Rank three beast they had just fought. Its obsidian, shiny carapace was covered in jagged, iron ridges, with thick webbing trailing from its abdomen. Its eight shimmering eyes locked onto the two boys with pure, lethal hunger.
The ground groaned under its sheer weight. Inside Lin Yuan’s sea of consciousness, the turtle beast’s voice roared, cracking with sheer panic: "Run!"
Lin Yuan froze, petrified at the place.
"That’s a rank six beast, Lin Yuan!" the turtle beast yelled again, "What the fuck are you waiting for? Do you wanna get killed here? Just fucking move!"
Chen Ming’s wind falcon shrieked in fear, its spiritual form flickering violently as it desperately flapped its wings against its master’s back. It wasn’t attempting to fight. It was paralyzed with primal fear.
And under Lin Yuan’s sleeves, the tattoos of the twin White Tigers itched against his skin as they sensed the danger.
Lin Yuan yelled immediately, breaking the silence. "Run, Chen Ming!"
Both disciples swung around, sprinting toward the path where they came from, with everything they had.
Behind them, the Rank six spider lunged forward with an immense speed.
"Faster, Chen Ming!" Lin Yuan snickered without seeing back.
"I’m fucking running as fast as I can!"
They rushed through the narrow path, but instantly a large splash of white webbing erupted from the monster’s abdomen, slamming across the path covering the whole way like an iron gate.
Lin Yuan trenched his boots in violently, barely stopping before slamming into the sticky trap. Chen Ming stopped right near his back. The exit was sealed now. Lin Yuan and Chen Ming were in disdain and helpless.
The massive spider walked closer slowly, letting out a faint screech occasionally as it blocked the rear of the tunnel.
Chen Ming’s voice shook. "Lin Yuan... Lin Yuan, what should we do now?!"
"Get behind me," Lin Yuan quivered, "I don’t know..."
The spider’s mandibles clicked, and a second web shot forward.
This one was different, it shimmered with a terrifying, vibrant blue hue. And they barely dodged it. The moment the web grazed the ground, the floor began to melt into bubbling liquid sludge with a loud hiss.
"W-w-what the hell?" Chen Ming stuttered in fear. "One touch and we will be melted into a puddle!"
Lin Yuan pushed himself up, his eyes turning cold. "We can’t outrun it, and there is no exit for us now."
He stared down the towering monster, steadying his breathing. "We need to fight that beast, Chen Ming."
"Fight that freaking monster?!" Chen Ming looked at him like he was insane. "Are you out of your mind?!"
"Probably," Lin Yuan muttered, his voice as low as a whisper. "But I’m not dying on my knees without fighting back."
Lin Yuan paused for a second, his beast essence splashing vehemently in his aperture. "Come out!"
An obscuring white light burst out into the area as the Male White Tiger appeared, its massive claws gouging clenched deep into the stone floor, and an angry grin on its face.
The cavern shook violently as the tiger roared, forcing the Rank six spider to hesitate for a fraction of a second. But the power difference is vast.
Lin Yuan’s face suddenly went pale. His chest ached slightly as the sheer strain of fully materializing a Legendary Beast in combat instantly drained more than half of his total beast essence pool in a second.
The turtle screamed inside his head. "Don’t fight against a Rank Six beast, Lin Yuan! Your core can’t bear it!"
"Tear the spider into shreds!" Lin Yuan commanded, ignoring the pain in his chest.
The white tiger rushed forward, its sharp claws slammed into the spider’s armored leg joint, carving a small crack into it.
The monster screeched in rage. Lin Yuan moved in perfect synchronization with his beast, dodging the venomous sprays while targeting the damaged leg with a few barrage of attacks.
Chen Ming also pushed himself out from his terror, commanding his falcon to attack. A wind blade struck the cracked joint, widening the fracture a bit.
"It’s working!" Chen Ming shouted in a slight excitement. "We can pierce its armor!"
Lin Yuan’s eyes widened, looking at his tiger. "Move— above you!"
But Lin Yuan’s warning was too late.
A massive, armored foreleg swept through the air rapidly, smashing into the white tiger’s flank. The tiger crashed into Lin Yuan, sending them both flying into the jagged stone wall.
Lin Yuan slammed into the rock, the impact made him splash out a mouthful of blood. He coughed up vehemently as the pain flared through his ribs.
The white tiger vanished into white light, settling back into the tattoo on his back as Lin Yuan’s essence ran shallow.
At that same second, a white web shot across the area, wrapping Chen Ming from head to toe and slamming him hard against the wall within a few paces away.
"LIN YUAN!"
Lin Yuan coughed up another mouthful of blood, struggling to push himself up. His vision blurred.
The Rank Six spider walked toward him, its lethal aura pinning him down.
The monster slowly raised its front leg, the sharp tip pointing straight at Lin Yuan’s chest, intending to pierce his heart.
Lin Yuan’s legs refused to move. His core was nearly hollow. The spear-like leg drove downward.
Lin Yuan braced his hands instantly in fear. Then, a small flash of silver light came out from his chest. A spray of warm, fresh blood splattered across Lin Yuan’s face and robes. His eyes widened in raw horror as he saw the beast.
"...Rabbit?" The Moon Rabbit had appeared on its own, without a command to save its master.
Its tiny, fragile body hung brutally pierced in mid-air, straight through by the spider’s massive leg, mere inches above Lin Yuan’s heart.
The dark cave fell into deafening silence. The rabbit’s little body spasmed faintly as the blood dripped down the spider’s leg and splashed onto Lin Yuan’s robes.
Lin Yuan’s hands shook. "No... stop..."
The Moon Rabbit slowly turned its head to look at him. Its dark eyes only had the same gentle, peaceful warmth it had always carried in his aperture. The rabbit was unable to speak, but Lin Yuan understood the rabbit’s words. "I saved you, master!"
Then, its tiny head went limp, and the spider opened its mount to eat the rabbit. It ripped the tiny body from its leg and crushed it between its mouth mandibles. Lin Yuan clearly heard the sound of shattering bones.
Lin Yuan stared blankly at the blood on his hands and robes, his mind going hollow.
The spider gulped the rabbit’s flesh, its eight crimson eyes narrowing as it raised another massive leg to kill Lin Yuan.
’Hahaha...’ Inside his consciousness, Noir’s soul laughed bitterly. ’This damn world... Killing me before I even started.’
His body had gone numb. His breathing was barely a whisper. As the darkness crept in, an eerie calmness washed over him.
’At least this time around...’ Noir smiled inside warmly. ’I lived by my own rules. Not as a pawn who bounded by fucking restrictions to do things.’
He slowly closed his eyes for a second accepting the death. ’If this is where the road ends... so be it.’
The fatal strike rushed downward.
...
Then, a fierce streak of yellow and golden light flashed from the entrance. The arrow pierced clean through the massive web curtain which is blocking the entrance. The white web burnt in a second as the arrow slammed into the Rank six spider’s armored carapace.
Thud!
The large beast was blasted backward through the air, flying fifteen paces away before crashing into the rocky wall.
The ceiling buckled under its weight, burying the terrifying monster under shattered debris and dust.
Chen Ming stared in stunned silence through the gaps in his webbing. Lin Yuan slowly opened his eyes, smearing the blood from his forehead.
In the center of the collapsed debris, the Rank six spider screeched in agony, a shimmering golden, fire arrow stuck into its impenetrable shell. Lin Yuan turned his gaze toward the entrance. Someone had just shot down a Rank six beast with a single arrow. The darkness consumed by the linger of golden light from the arrow.
