The shining arrow remained deep inside the Rank six spider’s cracked carapace, humming with a faint spiritual power. The dust and debris slowly crawled down from the fractured roof.
Lin Yuan lay still on the ground, his breathing faint and shallow.
Across the dark cave, Chen Ming remained pinned against the wall, bound tight from head to toe in thick, sticky spider web.
Both of them don’t have strength to stand up. They were exhausted.
Then, a calm, steady footstep echoed through the cave entrance. A lone figure stepped through the shredded webs, stepping over the shattered stone. He pushed the webs away with a mighty bow in his hand.
He wore shiny crimson robes embroidered with golden talons. An elegant, dark-iron bow rested firmly in his left hand. His posture was relaxed, but the ambient aura emanating from his body was so suffocating that the remaining stench of spider venom was instantly removed from the air.
Behind him there were eight armored guards bearing the insignia of Red Talon Hall.
The man locked across the carnage, his eyes settling on the two bruised disciples. He was Xue Hongzhao, Sect master of Red Talon Hall.
"Sorry, brats," Xue Hongzhao muttered, nodding his head slightly. "You had to endure quite a beating."
He turned his cold gaze toward the mountain of collapsed debris where the beast was already beginning to thrash. "Leave this monster to me."
The guards behind him moved into action instantly.
"Secure the disciples!"
"Quickly, cut the webbing!"
One guard immediately concentrated on his beast essence, taking a curved blade to slice through Chen Ming’s web. Another guard dropped to his knees beside Lin Yuan, placing two fingers on the boy’s wrist to check his fading pulse and trying to heal him.
Xue Hongzhao with the bow walked toward the center of the area, his eyes locking onto the trembling spider.
A furious, agonized screech burst out from the debris. Xue Hongzhao’s lips curled into a cold, dangerous smirk.
"You really made quite a mess on my mountain," He grunted, clicking his tongue. "I will rip your fucking guts now!"

A Few Hours Earlier
The Mission Hall of Red Talon Hall had been operating under its usual rush when three senior scouts rushed through the main double doors, their breaths frantic.
"Sect Master!"
Xue Hongzhao, who was reviewing the quarterly area logs near the central counter, turned his head and commanded. "Report."
The lead scout dropped to one knee, cupping his fists with an anxious expression. "Our patrol discovered anonymous beast traces along the western mountain ridge. The spider nest in the upper cave is not an ordinary cave."
"The scouts confirmed those essence intensity matching a mutated Rank Six Blood-Patterned Spider," The scout swallowed hard, his voice cracking in fear.
The temperature in the Mission Hall plummeted.
"A Rank Six near our outer border?" Xue Hongzhao flabbergasted, his eyes frowning slightly.
"Yes, Sect Master!"
"Tear down every mission slip assigned to the western caves immediately," Xue Hongzhao commanded, his robes fluttering as he stood up suddenly. "Right away!"
A few attendants rushed toward the mission boards. Less than thirty seconds later, an elder rushed back, his face pale.
"Sect Master..." the elder called out, his face filled with disdain.
"Speak!" Xue Hongzhao commanded.
"The Rank Three Spider Core task for the Western Ridge... was claimed less than an hour ago."
Xue Hongzhao’s expression changed instantly. "Which squad took it?"
"The new disciples... Lin Yuan and Chen Ming."
An eerie silence fell over the hall.
Xue Hongzhao clenched his fists and muttered. "Those reckless little bastards..."
"Roar!!!" He turned back, his voice booming across the pavilion "Phoenix!!"
Outside in the central courtyard, a massive crimson shadow eclipsed the morning sun, roaring loudly.
The massive Phoenix descended from the clouds, its golden-red feathers emanating the waves of pure heat that rattled the surrounding roof tiles.
Xue Hongzhao leaped onto the beast’s back in a single leap. "Move!"
The Phoenix flapped its wide wings, shooting into the sky like a crimson comet. The eight elite guards mounted on the flying beasts of the Red Talon Hall and followed behind him.
The mountain steeps obscured under them at terrifying speed. The moment Xue Hongzhao reached the sky above the western ridge, his intense gaze darted across the area.
The lethal aura of a Rank Six beast started flaring after a few minutes. And trapped deep within the cave below were two flickering, rapidly fading lives. They were Lin Yuan and Chen Ming.
"Descend!" Xue Hongzhao commanded, taking the elegant bow which is at the side of the Phoenix.

Back in the Cave
Boom!
The mountain of debris on the spider exploded outward.
The Rank Six Spider forced its way out from the debris, stone fragments clattering against its jagged black shell. The shimmering arrow remained buried deep within its body, oozing thick, black ichor.
Its eight crimson eyes burned with pure rage. Xue Hongzhao calmly prepared another black arrow to fire, his bowstring humming with his aura.
Whoosh!
The spider’s abdomen whipped forward, firing a web of blue, corrosive venom straight at his head.
Xue Hongzhao pivoted half a step to the right with a calm grace. The venomous web splashed into the ground behind him.
The solid stone melted into bubbling sludge within seconds, steam escaping slowly.
"Hehehe! Venomous web huh," Xue Hongzhao muttered, unbothered. He pulled the bowstring back to his ear.
A streak of silver light whirled through the air, piercing clean through one of the spider’s forelegs, pinning to the stone floor with a loud crack.
The monster shrieked in pain, lunging forward with its remaining legs.
Xue Hongzhao moved backward like a leaf in a gale.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
The spider fired a barrage of venomous webs, turning the dark cave into a lethal web of blue acid.
Xue Hongzhao’s eyes frowned, his face spasming with irritation.
"Enough running around," He groaned angrily as he drew three arrows from his quiver at a time, nocking them into the bowstring instantly.
Three silver streaks flashed through the darkness. And three more armored legs shattered at the joints, collapsing under the creature’s weight.
The wounded spider groaned, using its remaining leg to thrust a massive, spear-like attack toward Xue Hongzhao’s head.
Xue Hongzhao staggered backward, the stone cratering under the strike impact. He lowered the bow, his eyes turning cold and ruthless.
"You dared to shed the blood of my disciples on my territory," Xue Hongzhao murmured but his voice echoed across the cave. The spiritual pressure around his body changed from calm to intense. "Now... burn."
He raised his right hand to summon his beast. "Come forth!!"
An obscuring crimson-gold light appeared above Xue Hongzhao’s hands. The massive Phoenix appeared behind the Sect Master, its fire wings and body adjusted to the width of the cave. Its feathers on fire wavering against the air, and the divine pressure emanating from its eyes was too powerful.
Even the frenzied Rank Six spider froze, petrified by the divine aura. Xue Hongzhao pointed a finger at the beast.
"Incinerate!"
The Phoenix vanished from his back. The spider was unable to understand and process the speed. Instantly, it reappeared before the spider, its talons slamming into the beast’s carapace, pinning it against the ground.
Its beak snapped wide open. A large vortex of hot crimson-gold flames swirled out from its throat.
The spider desperately spat layers of webbing to shield its body. The webs vaporized even before they left its abdomen.
The spider’s agonizing shrieks shook the mountain as the divine flames turned the cave into a blazing furnace. The iron-like carapace turned red under heat, then cracked, and finally melted into black sludge.
Its flesh melted away into smoke. Its armored legs cracked and vanished into embers. Within a few minutes, the spider that had nearly slaughtered Lin Yuan and Chen Ming was reduced into a pile of scorched black bones, sludge and ash.
The Phoenix closed its beak, the roaring inferno vanishing into the thin air. The silence returned to the cave.
"Humph," Xue Hongzhao stared down at the burnt remains. He turned back toward the entrance. "Report on their condition."
"Wounds are stabilized, Sect Master," The guard attending Lin Yuan stood up, smearing sweat from his forehead. "Their cores suffered and drained nearly to hollow, but their lives are out of danger. Both are currently unconscious. But—"
"But what?"
"This boy is too exhausted due to over usage of the beast essence," The guard muttered, pointing toward Lin Yuan.
"Let’s take them to the sect fast!!" Xue Hongzhao walked over, his gaze lingering on Lin Yuan’s bruised, blood-stained face.
’This kid...’ He remembered the two Legendary White Tigers that had appeared during his introduction.
And now, less than twenty-four hours later, the boy had somehow survived a face-to-face encounter with a rank six beast without his aperture shattering.
The guards carefully lifted the two unconscious disciples onto their beasts.
The Phoenix spread its massive wings, flapping up a gust of wind as it lifted off into the sky, leading the escort squad back toward the peaks of Red Talon Hall.
