Limitless Summoner System

Chapter 10: A Risky Approach

"Hello class, I am Professor Dawn Smith. I will be teaching you how to properly tame beasts in this class. All of these are wild beasts but are not violent, well, most of them aren’t." She laughed.

She noticed Tyler’s staff and smiled.

"You there, your name must be Tyler?"

"Yes mam, it’s a pleasure to meet you."

"That’s quite the staff you have. Was it gifted to you by Master Sanju?"

"It was, but please, don’t treat me like I’m special. I’m just a D ranked summoner, can we just pretend like I’m not here and go on with the class?" He asked, embarrassed.

"Humble too. Thank these gods..."

She acknowledged his request and explained the proper techniques required for beast taming, which Adam was already fluent in. She demonstrated different abilities, ways of trying to get the beast to respect you without fighting it and easily defeating a few of the lower ranked beasts.

’I have to get this wolf. She looks too cool not to get and I need to level up or I won’t be strong enough for this forest tonight.’ Tyler thought while admiring his teacher.

Tyler raised his hand.

"Yes Mr. Rask."

"Can I try to form a contract with that wolf?" He said while pointing his staff at it.

She laughed. "By all means, but if you are in any danger, I would suggest backing away. She is a platinum beast and will attack you if she doesn’t feel you are worthy.

"Understood, thank you!"

Tyler slowly approached the beast and asked Ash to come out from his chest, which he gladly did, this time perching on his head, not his shoulder. When he got near the beast, his head started pounding, like he could feel a connection to the beast. It finally dawned on him what the headache was from.

"Hello, you are quite a magnificent wolf. Are you an alpha torn away from your pack?"

The wolf growled at Tyler, but he stood his ground confidently.

"I understand I am not a strong summoner yet. You probably think I’m a pitiful human, am I wrong?"

"You are correct. I have no interest in joining such a weak summoner."

"But you are interested in joining Ash, the phoenix that’s on my head, are you not?"

The wolf bowed her head slightly, eyes still fixated on Tyler’s confident stare.

"Let’s make a deal. Let’s form a contract and if I do not level up and get to the strength you see fit, I will allow you to leave this school and roam back to your pack."

The wolf turned her head sideways. ’Interesting. He allows his phoenix to be out on his head and it seemed to come out naturally, not needing a command. This human is unique, that is for certain.’

"Well, do we have a deal or are you going to make me look like a fool and fight you? It would look pretty pathetic picking on a baby phoenix, would it not?" Tyler said respectfully, yet sternly.

"You have a deal. I’ll form the contract. I am Shadow, daughter of the parents who led the Feng tribe. I was snatched away by that professor. I’ve been reduced to a display animal. Unfortunately, she is too powerful for me to break free from, so a contract with you would free me from this boring, wretched routine."

"Nice to meet you Shadow, I am Tyler. Tonight we will be sneaking out to the forest of unknowns with that serpentine vampire over there and two ladies I’m friends with. One is a B ranked ability user and another is a D ranked elven healer. You must treat my friends with respect as well, please put that in the contract. You may also add you are free to add a contract termination if I do not level up to your liking or you grow tired of being one of my familiars."

"That is very honorable of you Tyler. Most tamers and summoners make demands and force things upon Eidolons. You... are different."

"Thank the gods for that!" Ash interjected playfully.

"Nice to meet ya Shadow! Sorry I’m still a baby, I was just reborn when I found my new host. I swear I was cursed by the gods, I used to have an owner who was an ability user who couldn’t use fire! What the fuck is that?!"

Shadow laughed. "Pathetic indeed. How could a human not use fire magic when gifted with such a marvelous creature?"

"That’s what I said! You’re not so bad yourself. You look like you could rip some monsters or some beasts to shreds. How long have you been at the school?"

"About three long years now. They took me out in my prime. I was finally taking over as the leader of our family before I was pulled away," Shadow said sadly.

"Damn, that’s a shame. Well, with us, you’ll be like family. If you choose to go back to your old pack, that’s completely up to you. Just give me a chance first?" Tyler asked politely.

’Yes, certainly. Here is the contract. It requires you to prick your finger and sign it with your blood. It binds us together."

"Hey System, can you please review the contract and make sure it’s correct, fair and she’s not tricking me somehow?’

[Certainly. I would recommend you counter the fourth clause. Her fourth clause states she has the ability to leave freely whenever she wishes and return at her leisure. I would tell her that she is only free to leave in your vicinity, the Land of summoned monsters, or in order to protect you. You shouldn’t allow your beasts to walk all over you. I agree with your decision to allow Ash to freely fly out, but he stays near you. Don’t let any of them do as they please. You are their master at the end of the day.]

"Hey Shadow, can we please change clause 4? You are free to go to the Land of Summoned Monsters, the tamed beast realm, and you can come out in my vicinity and it needs to include that you will do so to protect me. Other than that, I will agree to this contract."

The large wolf grinned. "A wise young man indeed. Ok, I have changed it to your recommendation."

"Ash, prick my finger with my beak please?"

Ash wasted no time and bit his finger and laughed.

"Hey!" Tyler chuckled.

"Couldn’t resist, why prick when I can just bite you instead." He joked. "Not every day your host asks you to injure him. I’ll heal it up for you when you’re done."

Shadow laughed.

[Congratulations, you have completed the quest: Form a contract with the wolf. Reward: 200 Experience points. You are now Level 3. 50/300 experience. One stat point added to each category.]

’Thanks I don’t need to hear them.’

"Marvelous job Tyler!" Professor Smith clapped. The rest of the class looked stunned and noticed the ruby gemstone on Tyler’s staff grow, just a little.

"Atta boy bro!" Adam cheered, walking up and fist bumping him.

"How the hell did you do that?" He whispered.

"Gave her the respect she deserved, just like you and Sophie talked about." Tyler smiled.

Adam laughed and enjoyed the rest of the class. Some of the other tamers tried to grab a beast for themselves, but other than Adam, who picked up a gold rank snake, no one else was successful. Class was dismissed, which meant they were done for the day and they both wondered where the girls would be. Adam shared a dorm with Zain and neither of them thought to ask where the girls were staying.

"Oh, don’t you have Amanda’s number? Text her before Sophie’s gone!" Adam said quickly as they were walking back inside.

"Hey Amanda, are you still with Sophie? If so, where are you two? Want to meet up with Adam and I?"

Ring. Ring. Ring.

"Hello?"

"Hey, it’s Amanda. Sophie and I just wrapped up our last class. I’m headed back to my dorm and she’s headed back to her apartment. She lives there with her roommate Katy. It’s one of those luxury apartments in center square."

"No way! That’s where my apartment is. I’m on the second floor. Did you two want to meet up with me and Adam?"

"One second, let me ask Sophie."

Tyler noticed Adam was trying his best to hear the conversation and gave him a playful nudge to back up a bit.

Adam smiled and mouthed, "my bad bro, just want to know about this roommate now too!"

"She said sure. What apartment number is yours?"

"Apartment 1. Second floor"

He heard Amanda gasp.

"What’s the big deal?"

"You live in a penthouse apartment by yourself? Who exactly are you, mister?!" She said playfully.

Tyler laughed. "Just a regular guy who had amazing parents who are resting peacefully in the afterlife. They took care of me in life and in their passing. I’ll tell you about it later, see you in a few."

"Bye!"

"Good stuff bro! Maybe Sophie will bring her roommate too! You care if Zain swings by?"

"Nah, that’s cool. Let’s go, I don’t want them beating us there."
