Sophie and Tyler’s fourth period was a complete bore. They sat in back and as much as they tried to stay engaged by taking notes, it was literally just talking combat strategy for an hour. Their professor was an older woman who was very intelligent but dry, boring and repetitive. When the bell finally rang, they couldn’t get out of their seats fast enough.
"Hey Sophie, can I talk to you for a minute?" Tyler whispered, holding her back in class.
"Why so secretive?" Sophie asked quietly.
"I need you to take me to the forest of unknowns tonight. I need to start fighting beasts and getting stronger and I feel like you’d be the perfect partner if I were to get in a tight situation."
"Are you crazy?! You know we could be suspended or even worse, expelled!"
"I know, that’s why I want to sneak out with you and Adam. I’m pretty sure Adam’s snake eyes will be able to give us the proper cover. Amanda could come too if she wanted. What do you think?"
Sophie thought about it for a moment, before agreeing under the condition that Adam was their lookout and Amanda was willing to stay quiet.

The cafeteria was large and buzzing with all of the first year students. The University served a variety of hot meals, including vegetarian and vegan dishes. Tyler grabbed a cheeseburger and some fries, a sports drink and some fish for Ash. He found a seat with Adam while Sophie introduced Amanda to her friends.
Sophie was happy her friends were kind and nice to Amanda, who looked really nervous the entire time but finally started to laugh and loosen up a bit. Being a loner her whole life, she felt like ever since she met Tyler, things were only getting better, and she was very thankful for the way everyone was treating her.
"Looks like she’s hitting it off with her friends, nice one bro," Adam said while taking a bite out of his sandwich.
"Yo bro, tonight we’re going to sneak out to the forest of unknowns... you willing to play lookout with those serpent eyes of yours?" Tyler looked around before ducking a bit and speaking very softly.
Adam had a wide grin. "I can charm people too bro. If anyone gets in our business, I just bring out Orochi and put them under his gaze and they’ll forget we were even there! What do you want to find out there? I’ve heard crazy stories bro, like of legendary beasts fighting, bronze beasts as easy fodder to get stronger. I’ve also heard a lot of it is unexplored so maybe once Ash gets bigger, you’ll be able to figure out all of its secrets!"
"Woah, that’s amazing. Good to know. Ok, so I’m thinking around 10 PM tonight we sneak out via my apartment. Here’s my address. I’ll text Amanda and have her let Sophie know."
"Woah, you have her number? She’s cute, man. They both are. We shouldn’t step on each other’s toes if you know what I mean. Who are you more interested in?"
"I was in..." Tyler caught himself before saying he had a long time girlfriend. Adam looked confused, but then relaxed as Tyler recovered.
"I was in between either of them honestly. I’m not really interested in a serious relationship with anyone, so if you want to go for it with either of them, be my guest. She gave me her number for the help Ash gave her at the hospital because they discharged her before I was awake, that’s all."
"Oh, awesome. I don’t know, there are so many babes here. Look at Sophie’s group of friends, you think we should go sit down over there?"
"Maybe later, I’m already finished, so is Ash, I gotta take him out back."
"Ah, alright, I’ll catch you in our last period then. I’m with Amanda again."
"Yeah, last period is the only class I don’t have with Sophie. It’s crazy how similar our schedule is and I can’t believe the four of us are in the same homeroom. Like what are the odds of that, seriously?"
"When you consider it’s completely random and I don’t even have a single class with Zack or Zain, I’d say it’s pretty crazy it ended up that way. Do you mind if they come tonight?"
"As long as you’re confident six us can sneak out, I’m all good with it man. I trust you."
"Ah, shit, you’re right. Six might be too many. Anyway, we’ll meet at your apartment around 9, but I’ll catch you in our last class."
Tyler took Ash out back and sat through his next class, which taught him how to properly channel his magical energy, which was a great lesson for him. He also appreciated that this was another class he had alone with Sophie. She helped him focus on his meditation, mana control and usage. He continued to practice letting it freely flow through his body, with his system and Ash guiding him along the way. He noticed his staff’s ruby would illuminate if he focused his energy into it, which gave him a surprise ping.

As much as he wanted to see the girls, he was happy he had Adam for his final class of the day, the practical lesson of beast taming. It took place outdoors on the west side of the building and had an area with several beasts wandering around.

"Ash, are you cool with me forming a contract with another beast? You’re my main familiar and I know I have to form more, I just don’t feel right not asking you first."
"Ok, I am officially no longer cursed by the gods!" Ash laughed. "Seriously I was beginning to doubt them but FINALLY I have a host who has a brain. Yes, I would love for you to form more contracts. Which one are you thinking?"
"That big black wolf seems really cool and strong. He looks ferocious, almost like an Alpha of a pack."
"That’s a Platinum tier beast. That might be a little tough. What about the falcon or the deer? They’re both silvers."
"I think we can handle a platinum if it respects you. Let’s say we give it a go!"
