Sophie and Amanda huddled up going over their strategy. Sophie explained that Amanda should cast her buffing magic and debuff the red haired elf if she could. She predicted he chose no weapon because he was likely an ability user who hadn’t learned to infuse his magical attacks with his weapon. She warned her to stay clear from the green haired student, as he was likely more powerful. They both smiled and turned to face their opponents.
"If we win, we get to take you pretty ladies on dates, how about that?" The green haired male asked.
"Sure, and if we win, you will never ask us out again. Deal?" Sophie flirted. She wanted them to think they stood a chance.
Amanda smiled. She liked that Sophie was being friendly. She wasn’t used to people being nice to her and grew up practically her whole life in an elven village that labeled her as a useless outcast. She chose a spear because when she talked with her partner, she explained she had the most experience with it. She knew she could cast her buffing magic and that the sphere would illuminate red if one of them was in danger.
"Alright. On my count. 3...2....1.... FIGHT." The professor yelled.
A red spark immediately flew from Amanda’s staff and slowed the charging red haired student down. Quickly after, a green spark flew into Sophie, who grinned widely.
’This feels damn good.’
As the red haired kid closed in on Sophie, he started using Earth spells to shoot thorns and other objects at Amanda, but they simply met an ice wall. Sophie quickly pivoted and shot two ice daggers from her blades while swinging them in the direction of the green haired student. He slashed through them but charged at her recklessly.
Amanda continued to cast debuffing magic at both the students, but nothing was really landing. It didn’t matter though, because Sophie was unbelievable. Not only was she gifted with her magic, she was gifted as a swordswoman as well. Her neat katana strikes caused the red haired elf to go on the defensive while she exchanged blows with the longsword of the green haired kid.
Eventually she threw one of her katanas in the air, used her right hand to freeze the red haired students feet to his ankles, caught her katana and used them both to disarm the green haired students broadsword, putting the katana toward his chest.
"We win," She said with a wink.
The class erupted in cheers. Amanda was smiling and Tyler and Adam were screaming, "WAY TO GO LADIES! THAT WAS AMAZING!"
Amanda ran over and hugged Sophie, who was surprised but hugged her back. "Thank you, you have no idea how much it means that you stood up for me and asked me to be your partner. No one has ever done that for me before. I hope we grow to be great friends."
Sophie smiled. She wasn’t usually the emotional type, but she felt proud and happy. She noticed Adam and Tyler cheering like giant goofballs and laughed.
"Look at those two knuckleheads, they really are happy for us."
"Yeah... they’re both kind of cute, what do you think?"
"Yes... Especially Tyler. He is a gorgeous man."
"Yeah, he is. Adam’s handsome too. They’re both really nice though, that’s what’s most important. I’m guessing your ex was insanely good looking?" She laughed.
"I guess, but he’s an ass and that’s the past. You should meet my other friends sometime, I think you’ll get along with them. They’re mostly D and C ranked, but we have a girls night every Thursday. You in?"
Amanda thought about it for a second.
"Are you sure they’ll be ok with a lowly D ranked support elf?"
Sophie frowned. "I’m sorry I put you down earlier. Yes, they are much nicer than I am. You’ll fit in just fine."
"Congratulations to our winners, Sophie and Amanda! Quite a performance. Now, everyone should partner up and practice dueling with one another using the training swords on the east wall." Professor Sanju said politely after calming everyone down.
Sophie and Amanda partnered up and Sophie was showing her how to use a sword properly. Tyler and Adam paired up and Tyler had absolutely no clue what he was doing with a sword.
"Shouldn’t I be using a staff anyway? This just feels wrong." He said while trying to figure out how to hold the thing.
"Ah, Mr. Rask and Sir Ash," Professor Sanju said with a polite bow. He had a neatly tied ponytail and goatee, with black eyes and white pupils. He was a handsome demon in his mid forties.
"I like this one. Sir Ash has a nice ring to it!" Ash laughed.
"Yeah... he seems pretty cool."
"Hello Professor, it’s nice to meet you."
"Here, follow me please." He said while walking toward the back of the dojo. Tyler followed him while Adam stood there awkwardly. He decided to practice his sword skills. He was pretty talented, so some of the other students naturally went over to exchange some swordplay with him. He disarmed most of them rather quickly, but a few took a bit more time before he defeated them.
Tyler followed the professor all the way to his office in the back of the dojo. He opened a large trunk and pulled out a long platinum staff with a small ruby in the crescent top of it.
"For you." He said with a polite bow.
"I can’t accept this! That is such a gorgeous staff. I can’t afford anything like that!" Tyler said nervously.
"You misunderstand. It is my job as a professor to ensure my students are set up for success, but more importantly, safe in the real world. This staff can only be used by a summoner and the ruby will grow as you become more powerful."
[Ping! New item received: Crescens: A Mythical Tier Staff only able to be used by summoners with a mythological creature. New quest: Form a contract with a beast at the Master rank or above: Reward: 1000 EXP. You have two weeks to complete this quest, failure to do so will result in defaulting back to level 1 and all stats will return to normal. Good luck!]
"What the hell? You can punish me if I don’t do the quests on time?!"
[I never said everything would be easy, did I?]
"No, you didn’t. That’s fair. I’m just a little shocked, that’s all." Tyler said with a frown.
’Where the hell am I supposed to find a Master tier beast anyway and I’m only level 2!’
"That one is going to be tough. We need to get you to level 10 and have Adam help you. I would try to ask your system the best way to level up or something. The faster you level up, the faster I grow up, so let’s get going bucko!" Ash said cheerfully.
"System, what is the fastest way for me to gain experience to level up?"
[Only one current quest. The fastest way to level up would be by defeating enemies in the forest of unknowns, located to the west of the school. However, it is forbidden for first years to go to this area.]
Tyler grinned.
"Thank you so much Professor, I genuinely will treat this staff with as much love and compassion as it deserves!" He said before he sprinted over to Adam.
"You are welcome, young summoner," the professor said with a large smile.
’That one is destined to do great things in this world. I hope you are resting in peace, brother. I was finally able to find someone worthy of your staff.’ He thought, staring up towards the ceiling.
"Woah, that’s one hell of a staff," Adam said in amazement.
Thankfully, the bell rang, signaling class was over, because it caught the attention of everyone in the class.
"A mythical staff for a mythical summoner, very cool," Sophie said quietly as the four were exciting the room.
"I agree, that is a very beautiful gift. Do we all share the next 2 classes or do we have different teachers?" Amanda asked.
"Professor Hoogan for me, Adam said."
"Dawkins for me and Tyler." Sophie said while shrugging.
"Ok Adam, I’ll head to class with you. Hopefully we’ll see you two soon! Thanks again Sophie! Today felt really good."
"Hey, no problem. You did really well! Remember, after fourth period we have lunch so we can meet up in the cafeteria ok?"
They agreed and headed off to their next class.
Tyler was eager to convince Sophie to help him sneak out later that night.
