After traveling for about an hour away from the Azure Moon Kingdom, the carriage rolled to a halt. The dense, sprawling treeline of the Whispering Wilds loomed ominously before them.
A crumbling stone outpost sat near the edge of the woods, acting as a grim warning to any travelers foolish enough to approach the uncharted territory.
Everyone climbed out of the transport to survey the area. Even Feng hopped down from the driver’s seat, his eyes widening in pure horror as he stared at the oppressive tree canopy. He finally realized exactly which cursed route they were taking.
Gideon walked up to the edge of the treeline. Despite the sun having just risen in the sky, the interior of the forest remained suffocatingly dark. The ancient trees grew incredibly close together, their massive, twisted trunks forming an impenetrable wooden wall.
Solomon stepped up beside the paladin. "Taking the carriage through here is going to be extremely difficult. The wheels will just get stuck on the roots."
"Even taking the horses through this brush would be impossible," Gideon responded, resting a hand on his broadsword. "There is zero line of sight. We would lose our sense of direction within minutes."
Gideon unclasped the heavy scabbard from his hip and drew his pristine broadsword. "Step back, Solomon."
Solomon eagerly took a few steps backward.
He was incredibly curious to see exactly what Gideon was about to do. He wanted to witness firsthand how the strength of a modern paladin compared to the Undead Paladin from seven hundred years ago. He also wondered if Gideon possessed a unique innate talent that helped him reach the absolute pinnacle of knighthood.
Gideon raised his broadsword with both hands. He channeled a surge of brilliant golden aura into the blade and unleashed three rapid, intersecting slashes toward the treeline.
The golden energy erupted forward, tearing through the ancient wood. Massive trunks splintered and collapsed, crashing loudly onto the forest floor.
The devastating attack razed the dense vegetation in a perfectly straight line, carving a clear, unobstructed path that stretched for roughly a mile into the darkness.
Feng gasped and stumbled backward, entirely shocked by the sheer destructive power. Yue and Kulbro simply watched the display with calm, expected reactions.
Solomon, however, stared at the fallen trees with a profound sense of confusion.
’That was... surprisingly underwhelming,’ Solomon thought to himself, tilting his head. ’He only razed the path for about a mile, at most.’
It was not a matter of arrogance. He had simply expected a much grander display from a legendary paladin. The attack was strong, but Solomon knew he could have easily replicated or exceeded that level of destruction with a casual swing of Eden’s Penance.
At first, Solomon assumed Gideon had intentionally held his strength back to conserve stamina. Yet, judging by the physical exertion and the time it took the paladin to execute the three strikes, that did not seem to be the case.
He decided to keep his mouth shut and avoid jumping to any hasty conclusions about the older knight’s true limits.
Gideon lowered his broadsword and turned to Solomon with a satisfied smile. "We now have a clear path forward. We do not need to worry about getting lost in the brush."

They quickly climbed back onto their respective mounts. Feng cracked the reins with trembling hands, and the carriage rolled forward into the newly paved forest path.
After traveling for about a mile, reaching the exact point where Gideon’s golden aura had supposedly dissipated, Solomon peeked out of the wooden window frame. He fully expected to see the dense wall of trees blocking their way again, forcing Gideon to dismount and execute another barrage of attacks.
Much to his absolute surprise, the path ahead remained perfectly clear and unobstructed. The razed corridor continued seamlessly into the dark forest.
Solomon furrowed his brow. He kept his gaze fixed out the window, waiting to see the end of the paved road. However, even after traveling for a few more miles, the dense treeline never returned to block their route. The path remained flawlessly cut.
’How is that possible? I literally saw the attack stop after a mile,’ Solomon wondered, his confusion deepening. He eventually decided not to let the bizarre physics bother him. He leaned back against the plush cushions and simply enjoyed the bumpy ride and the eerie, shadowy view of the Whispering Wilds.
Yue noticed him shifting uncomfortably and staring out the window. She snapped her jade fan open. "Is something the matter? Do you need to stop the carriage for nature’s call?"
"No," Solomon responded, crossing his arms over his chest. "This carriage is just incredibly uncomfortable. The suspension is terrible."
Yue shook her head and let out a quiet sigh. "Sometimes, you actually behave exactly like your age, nitpicking every little inconvenience."
A short while later, Solomon turned his attention away from the window and looked directly at the pavilion master.
"I just realized I never actually asked you what specific course you teach," Solomon noted. "What exactly does the Tenth Pavilion specialize in?"
"I oversee the Qi Gathering Pavilion," Yue explained, closing her fan. "My instructors are responsible for teaching the disciples how to master internal energy, aura circulation, and core cultivation."
Solomon leaned forward eagerly. "Can you teach me right now?"
Yue shrugged her shoulders. "I assumed you already possessed a complete mastery over your internal energy, which is why I never brought it up during our lessons. What do you want to learn?"
"I have only unlocked one aura core so far," Solomon admitted. "I want to learn how to unlock more."
Yue froze. Her emerald eyes widened in sheer disbelief. She vividly recalled the terrifying, mountain-shattering aura she had witnessed during his duel with Pavilion Leader Jin at Cloud Piercing Peak.
The sheer volume and density of that silver energy defied all known logic.
