Chapter 240: Defeating the Boss

Solomon pulled Eden’s Penance free from the deep wound in the beast’s spine. He immediately strapped the executioner’s sword back across his chest. Grabbing the jagged, crystalline scales with his bare hands, he began climbing higher toward the monster’s massive head.

The serpent was still moving at terrifying speeds, flying erratically, coiling through the thin air, and doing everything within its power to throw the human off its back.

However, Solomon had already endured more than enough practice clinging to the thin, sharp edges of the Azure Dragon Sect’s vertical cliffs. The ice scales felt incredibly similar under his grip. He anchored his boots and pulled himself forward relentlessly.

He dug his boots into the crevices, holding on relentlessly until he finally reached the crown of the serpent’s head.

After finally reaching the base of the serpent’s skull, Solomon unbuckled his strap and plunged Eden’s Penance directly through the thickest armored scales. He used the embedded blade as a solid handhold to stand completely upright against the rushing wind.

"Time to end this," Solomon muttered.

He pulled the greatsword out of the skull and spun on his heel. Utilizing his rotational momentum, he executed the second form of the Eden Imperial Sword Arts.

He brought the blade around in a devastating horizontal sweep, slamming the sword directly against the exact same cracked scale he had pierced earlier.

Solomon did not stop. He planted his boots against the beast’s skull and unleashed a relentless barrage of attacks. He chained the third form, delivering a blinding flurry of diagonal slashes that chipped away at the thick armor plating.

He intentionally focused every single strike on one specific, concentrated spot on the serpent’s head.

The beast shrieked in agony. It thrashed its head from side to side, desperately trying to dislodge him, but Solomon simply dropped his center of gravity to absorb the frantic movements.

He hoisted the greatsword high above his head and executed the first form, bringing the blade crashing down in a brutal vertical chop.

He instantly chained the movement into the third form, unleashing a rapid, blinding flurry of diagonal slashes that carved deep, geysering trenches across the monster’s skull.

The heavy impact finally shattered the crystalline skull plating, exposing the vulnerable flesh beneath.

The continuous physical assault completely overwhelmed the beast. Unable to endure the concentrated torture any longer, the serpent folded its wings and initiated a frantic, vertical dive straight back down toward the cloud layer, hoping to smash the human against the mountains below.

As the beast plummeted into the turbulent storm, Solomon let go of the scales entirely. He jumped straight up off the serpent’s head, completely detaching himself from the falling monster.

Suspended in freefall amidst the howling blizzard, Solomon aligned his spine perfectly with his wrists. He compressed his entire body weight, gravity, and the immense falling momentum into the very tip of Eden’s Penance.

Executing the fourth form of the Eden Imperial Sword Arts, Solomon thrust the blade downward.

An ear-piercing sonic boom erupted through the storm clouds. The sheer kinetic velocity of his descending thrust tore a perfect vacuum through the blizzard.

Solomon plummeted toward the earth like a silver meteor, aiming the tip of his greatsword directly into the exposed, shattered hole on the serpent’s skull.

The impact was cataclysmic.

The greatsword drove straight through the beast’s brain just as its massive body crashed into the mountain peak below.

The shockwave from Solomon’s strike triggered a violent explosion that completely obliterated the entire summit. Millions of tons of snow, ice, and shattered rock erupted outward, leveling the surrounding ridges and carving a massive crater into the valley floor.

The colossal serpent stopped moving. Its massive body lay blasted open across the cratered valley. The pristine white snow, the shattered mountain rock, and the howling storm itself turned a brilliant, violent shade of crimson from the beast’s blood.

Despite how incredibly dangerous and chaotic the battle had been, the aftermath looked terrifyingly beautiful.

The vibrant red splattered across the pure white snow looked exactly like an abstract painting, and the sole painter of the masterpiece was Solomon.

Solomon lay buried under a heavy pile of snow and ice debris. He groaned in pain, his uniform torn and his skin battered from the explosive impact. The angel heart pumped frantically, desperately trying to knit his fractured bones back together while draining his remaining stamina reserves.

He slowly pushed the rubble off his chest and dragged himself out of the crater. He stumbled over to a broken rock, collapsed into a seated position, and leaned his back against the stone, staring exhaustedly at the dead boss.

[Koalafiedgamer: is he alive down there?!]

He let his eyes drift shut, thoroughly believing the grueling ordeal was finally over.

However... it was not.

A sickening, wet squelching sound echoed through the blizzard. Solomon forced his eyes open. He watched in absolute horror as the lower half of the serpent’s body began to twitch and writhe.

The tail dragged across the bloodstained snow, slowly coiling around the ruined head. The crystalline scales shifted and glowed with a sickening, pale blue light. The deep gashes and the massive hole in its skull began to knit themselves back together with terrifying speed.

Solomon stared at the gruesome display. His mind instantly flashed back to the tactical briefing inside the Holy Knight command pavilion. He remembered Lancelot explaining exactly why his elite crusaders had failed to clear the anomaly.

’The monster possesses extreme regenerative power,’ Solomon realized, his chest tightening.

Solomon’s inhales and exhales grew significantly longer and deeper. He tightened his trembling grip on the hilt of Eden’s Penance as he watched the colossal serpent rise from the bloody snow, fully restored and furious.

His aura was restricted. His stamina tax was redlining. And Phase Two of the A+ grade boss fight had just begun.
