"That illegitimate daughter of yours is a flirt. She’s just like her mother. I wished she was torn apart by that vicious Clancy Avelino. That woman is going to ruin us eventually" Regina complains.

"I have told you times without numbers not to compare Selen and her mother. I don’t know how she became a spoilt bitch but her mother was a woman I held in high esteem" Attor Williams reprimanded.

"And yet, she cheated on you with another man. I’ve always told you that Selen is not your biological daughter. But you wouldn’t..." Regina was saying when Attor interrupted her sharply.

"Enough!!!

I absolutely trusted her mother. Selen is my daughter and that is not a subject of discussion. She is the reason why we were able to muzzle a large compensation from the Avelino’s family.

For once, appreciate her presence in our lives. If it weren’t for Selen, what do you think would be the present predicament? If Tola hadn’t walked into the den of the men of the underworld, I wouldn’t have robbed Selen of her rights to save your daughter.

If you say another word about Selen or her mother again, I will reverse my decision and let Tola and you handle your predicament alone" Attor Williams seethed.

Everything they have left, was Selen’s. And yet, they wouldn’t for once be quiet and say something nice about her and her dead mother. What exactly do they want her to do?

Regina turned her gaze away and sneered. She knows what to say but because of the situation and her daughter’s safety, Sue would be quiet and not let things get ruined.

But if Attor threatens her more, she would expose the truth of what she knows about Selen and her mother and then the Avelino family will know that she’s a bastard and that’s why she was also carrying a bastard child.

In fury, Attor walked past Regina and Tola that became quiet as if she wasn’t the reason why Selen’s life has been filled with misery all her life. As he got into his home office, Attor shut the door and sighed, sinking into his chair.

"How can Selen be pregnant illegitimately? How is it that the past was repeating itself?

Where is she now?

"Dad is going to blame it on me now, everything. I only gambled and used the house and daddy’s business. But I am better than Selen who became pregnant with an illegitimate child as a married woman" she snorted.

"I wish your father will realise that. He’d only thought highly of that illegitimate daughter of his" Regina sneered.

Next morning, Clancy stopped by at his parents estate to have breakfast. He’d arrived overnight and went straight to his mansion. Now coming to his parents place, he’d set down to have his breakfast.

Katherine was in the room, she couldn’t join her parents for breakfast and Clancy asked:

"Where is Selen?"

Rose was shocked. He’d never asked after her. In fact, she doesn’t exist to him. Why was he asking about her now? He hoped what her husband said wasn’t going to come to pass.

"I kicked the bitch out of this house, can’t keep a pregnant slut here..." Rose was saying when she saw Clancy dropped his cutleries and glared at her in fury.

YEARS LATER

In the grand floor of Avelino’s automobile and engineering company, stood Clancy Avelino. Now older, with a slightly bard head and scruffy beards. His physical physique didn’t change but his facial looks were more like a man getting older with age.

Seven years have passed without a word about Selen Williams and his triplets. He’d gotten every information about her and the unborn babies from the hospital.

Where could she be now?

How is she being able to raise three kids single handedly? He never expected this twist, it came suddenly, radically and he was unprepared for it. Now, he yearns to be called a father, he wishes he could see them running towards him and building a home with the woman he once despised and rejected.

His phone rang and he walked over to his desk and picked up his phone. His dad was calling him and he knows why. But for regards sake, he would answer his phone and not leave him embarrassed by his attitude.

"Your mum is sick and you wouldn’t bother coming to the estate to check on her?" Jimmy Avelino reprimanded his eldest son. It’s been a few years now, but Clancy wouldn’t forgive his mother for what she did to Selen.

They’ve searched everywhere in the city of London and they couldn’t find her. The Williams’ family have been sent bankrupt and they’ve relocated to the outskirts of the city. He’d broken ties with his mother and sister and demands that they bring his wife back to get reconciled back to them.

What he didn’t understand was why he kept emphasising that Selen was his wife. When she was in the estate, he forbids her from stepping foot in the estate except when she’s sent on errands.

His sudden affection towards the woman was not what they expected after she’d left. But Avelino’s family has fallen apart. Julian has tried pleading with his brother and a few years have passed but the matter wasn’t resolved.

"She’s sick but has her husband by her side, right?" Clancy asked before losing his tempers again "My question is where is Selen? If mum can bring back my wife, then fine. She dares to attack her with my babies in her belly and forces her into signing a divorce paper. Am I a fool? Can’t I make decisions for myself?" Clancy fired furiously.

A few years have passed but he still felt the same tension, pain and fury when his mother said "I kicked the bitch out of this house, can’t keep a pregnant slut here..."

"Pregnant? What do you mean mum?" He’d asked sharply and his mother took her time to explain "Can you imagine, how filthy, defiled a woman the Williams have forced down your throat. Despite the fact that you never took her to your bed or consummate the union, we found her three months pregnant"

"Three months pregnant?" He’d asked before adding "Who did she say was responsible for the pregnancy?" He was thinking. That night, it was bare, he didn’t use protection.

"At the time she said she didn’t know him and later said he was dead" Katherine replied. She walked into the conversation her brother was having over the table with her mum and she chipped in the answer.

Clancy fisted his palm. Was she saying he was dead?

"I almost kicked the baby out of her belly but destiny saved her from a miscarriage. We’ve sent her away from us and made her sign the papers. You’re free now, Clancy..." Rose Avelino was saying when Clancy slammed his fist against the desk.

"She’s pregnant with my child!..."

"Are you even listening to me, Clancy?" Jimmy Avelino blurted. How can he not respond to his questions, was he day dreaming again?

"Yeah...no...I mean yes, what did you say dad?" Clancy asked. He had completely forgotten that he was on the phone with his dad, he’d slipped back to the memory of the past.

Jimmy Avelino was quiet. What exactly is wrong with Clancy? He’d gradually deteriorated to become a shadow of his former self.

What is happening to his eldest son?

"I was saying that you are the architect of your own misery, Clancy! You agreed to the marriage to conceal the secret and avoid going to jail. You married her by having the certificate signed without showing up.

You ridiculed her and brought her to the level of a maid and she was a personal maid to Katherine, her sister in-law. You knew about it and you didn’t care. You were the one responsible for whatever happened to Selen and not anyone else.

You alone should be blamed for whatever happened to that woman and your kids. They only helped you exact your revenge on her family, using her as the point of contact.

So stop blaming your mother or Katherine for the predicament you brought upon yourself..." his father scolded.

For the first time in many years, Clancy was speechless. A rush of adrenaline gushed down his spine.

Dad was right, he only was responsible for his own predicament. He sighed softly and before he could respond to his dad, he continued "Your mum is sorry and she tried her best finding Selen but she’s not anywhere in London, at least, that’s what we presume.

You should come over tonight for a family dinner. I’ve invited your brother and your mum wants to see you all. Even Katherine will be present..." Jimmy Avelino instructed and hung up.

Thinking about Katherine, Jimmy was restless. She also said she wants to be a part of the meeting because she has something to say. Nothing seems right in the Avelino’s family again, when Selen left, everything fell apart.

Everyone had gotten one challenge or the other after.

Clancy Avelino massaged the bridge between his eyes and sighed softly. He would go, he would be with his family once again for dinner.

He will go, for dad’s sake.
