Mindless Beasts

Chapter 45: Lunch date

"Not on my watch, how about a compromise? Let’s arrange to have your meal in the hospital’s sunken garden," suggested Khaldun.

Sly looked glum at first but then perked up.

Since he would have company and it was better than being all alone in his room staring blankly at the four walls.

"I suppose that can work," replied Sly appreciatively.

"Great. Let me handle it."

Unlike Sly who wore a spiritchoker Khaldun also wore a sporty version of the spiritwatch.

He slightly tapped it and a familiar face popped up on the video call.

It was Jonas who answered, with Terrence cackling like a hyena with hysteria in the background.

"Where’s Shelby?"

"It’s his turn to take the phantom for a test drive," exclaimed Jonas after letting out a few loud whoops."

The car was definitely being pushed to the limits judging by the screeching sounds.

Followed by those loud roars of the tire wheels that skidded and a few coughs from the dust that flew in their face.

If the General knew what the gang was doing with his precious baby he might have them court martialed indefinitely.

"Playtime’s over. Go and get two of whatever Chef Lumley has on the special lunch menu today and deliver it to the sunken garden at the Paradise Campus Hospital right away.

Of course, Khaldun didn’t wait for an answer, he just hung up trusting Jonas to do as he was told.

They were a dependable bunch, pretty much used to bending over backwards for each other when the occasion arises.

Khaldun could understand his little omega not wanting to be confined to the small sterilized hospital any longer but he agreed with Dr. Shirley about Sly Foxx staying overnight for observation.

He still could not get the graphic image of Sly bleeding out of his nose and eyes out of his mind.

Khaldun was starting to doubt the wisdom of going outside but still he pursed his lips and decided to keep quiet.

"Your face is a little red. Do you still have a fever?" asked Khaldun.

"No, the fever from the heat has gone down thanks to the suppressant they put in the drip but I still feel a bit lightheaded from having not eaten anything substantial but..."

"What’s wrong then?"

"Help me put on my slippers please."

Even when acting fussy Sly was still adorably cute.

Checking his body odor then looking across at the mirror to ensure he didn’t have any bedhead before they left the privacy of the room to mingle with the public outside.

After Khaldun knelt down on the floor like a prince putting slippers on Cinderella’s bony feet.

Khaldun decided Sly could use a bit more meat on his body; he was way too skinny for his tastes.

Side by side they walked down the long corridor together while holding hands, their clothes rustled as they occasionally rubbed.

Until they reached the nursing station looking like a couple with Sly in his white hospital gown contrasting with Khaldun trendy black casual clothes.

Naturally they turned heads with both looking like movie stars with their unearthly beauty.

Remembering where they were, Khaldun said, "wait right here."

He walked over to the Nurses station, where the nurses on duty, especially the single ones flirted and clamored for his attention, the head matron had to step in to get them to settle down.

After using his good looks and kilowatt charm to his advantage shortly after, Sly and Khaldun got permission to have their meal out by the sunken garden as long as they returned before dark.

The drip was also removed from Sly’s arm.

Imagine Sly’s delight when after walking for another thirty minutes they stumbled across the sunken garden.

Literally it was like stepping into a secret world hidden by large trees and flower plants that gave cool inviting shade.

Here they could spend a few minutes in private sheltered from prying eyes and noise blocked by rising stone walls.

Ivy cascades down the tiered rock faces, blurring the lines between nature and architecture, while delicate ferns soften the edges of the stone steps.

There was even a small pond with fat, thriving golden Koi fish.

In the center, a quiet stone statue poured out water that made gentle ripples, its soft sounds filling the intimate space.

Sly twirled around on sun-warmed brick stones with lush borders of lavender, climbing roses, made for an enticing picture.

Hidden like a quiet professionally manicured spot, the garden felt like a beautifully kept secret.

How did Khaldun discover it?

Wanton images of lovers tryst at midnight crossed his mind.

For this spot resembled a private paradise designed for quiet whispers, stolen glances, and lingering footsteps under a dark green forest canopy of sky.

When they reached the steps that led down into the sunken garden like a proper gentleman Khaldun held out his hand to help him down the steps.

Sly accepted with a soft smile the outstretched hand not expecting Khaldun to suddenly grab him by the waist and take the chance to reel him in closer to his delight.

While the couple were getting closer Shelby was becoming more upset.

Khaldun had practically left and abandoned them to go off to the Paradise Campus Hospital without an explanation.

It was not like Khaldun to keep secrets from his friends and Shelby had a feeling it had to do with that little omega that Khaldun had been obsessed with from the admissions test.

"Now he wants us to cut our fun short just to bring him food out in the middle of nowhere," fumed Shelby. "Remind me again why we are doing this and for what purpose?"

"Who was it that had your back when you came down with Sheldrake Measles and the doctor said only a certain rare plant could alleviate your pain. It was Khaldun who went and climbed the dangerous South Hades mountains to get the cure for you," Terrence reminded Shelby. "So if the man says to bring him a meal or two for his lunch date. I think you should be the last person to complain."

Pinging sounds ran out from the game Jonas was playing, interrupting the conversation in the car.

When they turned to look at Jonas with exasperation and a look that said we are having a serious conversation here.

Jonas just feigned ignorance and said, "I agree with whatever Terrence said."

Shelby shot Jonas an evil look that said traitor whose side are you on.

Finally they arrived at the hospital.

Shelby announced, "you guys stay here. I’ll deliver the food to Khaldun."

No one was more shocked than Shelby when he saw his best friend making out with that despicable omega Sly Foxx.

He rested the food on a nearby bench.

After messaging Khaldun, Shelby turned away with vengeance in his heart for the omega that dared to take what belonged to him.
