Sly didn’t have to glance at Khaldun’s face to know that there would be a look of amusement plastered all over his face to know it was there.
Khaldun drawled, "Oh, Mr. Hitman, that’s where your information is wrong about my cutie. Sly is not my anything yet. Although that is subject to change in future. He is simply just a friend and fellow student here at Paradise Military Academy, Sly answers to no one."
Mr. Hitman snarled, "that’s not something a Royal Alpha should be proud to say out loud."
"Sly has the potential to accomplish many great things in this lifetime and I plan to be standing right by his side when he surprises everyone with his actions. Sly has my temporary mark now and is willing to date me not because of my family or wealth or my murky past," retorted Khaldun, "why would I not be pleased?"
Confused, Sly thought, when would going to grab a bite to eat, turn into a date?
Listening to Khaldun talk you would think they were lifelong friends and not known each other for a few days.
The truth of the matter was, the whole temporary mark thing was Khaldun’s idea.
Sly hadn’t even thought he would undergo such a traumatic ordeal in his life until the S-tier alpha with the razor sharp teeth bit him.
Khaldun had the nerve to talk as if getting bit by fangs was some kind of trophy?
From the first time he met Khaldun at the admission test up to this point had been for the alpa’s advantage.
So why claim otherwise...
"You are young and naive. The next step for you would be to put a permanent mark on that waste," implied Mr. Hitman. "Doing so will cause irreparable damage with the nobility and you will cut yourself off from a deal of power. A future career as a general may be cut short without their support."
The S-tier alpha suddenly went very still.
It was an awful moment of silence as if someone lit a spark for a bomb and everyone just had to wait for it to go off.
Since there was nothing that could be done to stop the chain reaction.
Khaldun’s patience snapped, "Tell whoever is paying for your grave that I don’t take kindly to threats."
Enamored with the heated conversation between the two Sly would have given a lot to see the look on Khaldun’s face at that moment.
Instead he had to rely on hearing not eyesight as Khaldun towered over him and from the back.
Except all he could see was the hair on the nape of his black in dire need of a trim spilling over the border of his collar, pitting black on black.
Mr. Hitman laughed.
It was a vulgar and crude sound.
"You are young, have your fun with the mongrels but don’t breed them and keep them out of sight. Diluting the blood lines of the Royal Alphas will never be accepted by your peers," advised Mr. Hitman. "I’ve been sent to make an example out of this one. Born on the wrong side of the blanket no will miss him when he’s gone. I kind of feel like I’m doing the world a favor by taking out the garbage."
"Is that what brought you here, Mr. Hitman? To kill Sly?" Khaldun Wolfe’s voice was low, neutral... brutally cold. "I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you wasted your time."
Mr. Hitman’s laughter was even louder than before and echoed around the sunken garden.
"Enough of your nonsense young fool," Mr. Hitman shouted. "Get out of the way so I can end this quickly."
He threw several knives all at once.
Khaldun grabbed Sly and shielded him with his own body.
The majority of the knives landed in Khaldun’s back while a few were recalled by the mercenary for hire to launch another attack.
One of the knives managed to surpass Khaldun’s defense at an angle that made it curve around Khaldun’s body and whizzed past Sly’s body.
The wind from the speed of the knife was so sharp it sliced Sly’s arm and when he reached out to touch it Sly’s fingers came away with blood.
Khaldun’s rage spilled over naturally and his spirit energy flowed all around them like a stormy sea, riotous winds flailed all around, raising goosebumps on Sly’s arms.
"You have abused my patience," roared Khaldun.
His voice dominated the area reverberating around the sunken arden in chaotic echoes.
He started to levitate from off the ground.
Blood flowed down the side of his body.
Now Sly could study Khaldun’s face.
Even in his fury he was one of those men who was beautiful rather than handsome.
There was no way anyone could mistake Khaldun for female because every inch of his face was so masculine.
He had practically admitted out loudly how much he wanted Sly but the little omega didn’t think he was ready to make a commitment to Khaldun or any other alpha for that matter.
The only reason Sly favored Khaldun right now was because of the temporary mark.
Once its effects wore off, would things change between them?
Sly wasn’t so sure he wanted to stick around the dangerous S-tier alpha to find out.
Spirit energy radiated and flowed from off Khaldun’s body.
Crawling over Sly’s skin like icy water from the darkest depths of the arctic hades ocean.
Khaldun raised both hands that had gone nearly translucent with power from his chaotic energy.
Then started shooting mass spirit energy that reminded Sly of lightning bolts at the hitman.
Who managed to dodge every last one but even Sly could see he was starting to tire and slowing down.
It seemed like Mr. Hitman decided to stop running and stand his ground.
By the time both Sly and Khaldun realized he led Khaldun into a trap who had been following the hitman it was already too late.
The hitman activated his spirit bone powers and a massive blast shook the area.
Khaldun had managed to dodge the deadly explosion in time but the hitman had already released his multiple spirit beasts.
