Mindless Beasts

Chapter 51: Emergency warning

Sensing that his master was in danger Black Wolf appeared as if out of thin air in front of Khaldun. Just like its owner the proud spirit beast had a domineering presence, while shielding its master.

With its head raised it let out another earth shattering roar, giving an aggressive warning to the zombie jackal not to make any rash moves.

But the zombie jackal didn’t show any hesitancy or fear.

It cackled willfully and hurled itself forward, rotting flesh leaving a slimy trail with its sharp claws inches away from Khaldun’s neck.

Provoked, the Black Wolf didn’t back down either.

The Black Wolf used its own extended claws to strike at the zombie jackal’s most vulnerable spot, the hitman’s head.

In return the zombie jackal went tumbling on the grass with the Black Wolf.

Repeatedly, it brutally stabbed the Black Wolf, slashing at any unguarded spot on Black Wolf’s body and leaving several bloody gashes in its wake.

While also delivering a powerful kick to the Black Wolf’s stomach.

A trickle of sweat slid down Sly’s face as he watched the gruesome fight from a relatively safe distance.

Black Wolf was going hard at the zombie jackal, he bit down hard with his fangs tossing another string of entrails to its immediate left.

The sounds of the battle was just as disgusting as the visuals, lots of squelching and chomping of bones.

It was then Sly noticed something strange about the jackal, a bright gem that kept moving continuously around the jackal’s body to avoid coming in contact with Black Wolf’s fangs and teeth.

Sly shouted frantically, "Black wolf, rip out that gem!"

Nothing happened.

Black Wolf’s breathing had grown loud and ragged, just like his owner he was also rapidly approaching his limits.

That gem must be the source of the zombie jackal’s power and Sly felt like he needed to get his hands on the gem but what to do?

Three more heads had been severed from the zombie jackal’s main body.

At this point zombie jackal was going ballistic, almost like a piece of its sanity had gone missing.

Sly couldn’t see the gem moving around, so if separated maybe that’s why the zombie jackal wasn’t fighting rationally or with intention anymore.

Black Wolf was almost unrecognizable; tufts of black fur had gone missing and the rest of fur was matted with blood and nasty slime from the rotting zombie jackal.

Everything was in complete disarray; giant spots of coagulated mush, with rotting flesh ripped right off the bone tossed carelessly all around.

Most of the mush was blood entrails, lobs of putrid flesh and bits of broken bone.

At the sight Sly’s stomach contracted so hard he had to swallow multiple times to avoid puking up his guts.

Sly made his way over to the pile of mush with determination to search for the missing gem.

Disgust clouded his mind, squeamish as digging through a mound of regurgitated rotting flesh with his bare fingers was ross.

Everything felt wet to touch, wavy, flaccid and a squishy kind of rubbery.

Just feeling it was altogether disgusting and would make even the most unfeeling person cringe.

Even a piece of intestine landed beside Sly causing him to flinch and automatically trigger a reflex gag, the smell was so horrible.

There it was nestled securely within the bed of mush.

An ugly glowing green em that pulse lie a heartbeat, with an ethereal quality, evil intent radiated from it, it craved power and many innocent souls had been fed to it.

It recognised the half wishbone in Sly and desired it, knowing that consuming that part of Sly would make the gem more powerful.

Off its own accord, it seemed to come alive and the gem began to roll towards Sly like a slug.

The airs on Sly’s body stood at attention repulsed by the sheer audacity of the wicked entity.

Sly had no choice but to scoop up the gem in fear someone or something might snatch the gem away before he could deal with it properly.

Finally found the gem but even stepping on it with his foot in the thin hospital slippers couldn’t break it.

The little omega searched around until he found a larger sizable rock, after a few more heavy handed smashes the cursed gem finally broke and shattered.

The zombie jackal felt it and distracted let out a loud heartwrenching wail.

It now aged and deteriorated rapidly, decaying before their eyes, its main strength weakened, almost like losing the will to fit the zombie jackal turned greyish.

Which sent Black Wolf into a frenzy and he used every last ounce of his street to defeat the zombie jackal and tear it apart.

It was over for Black Wolf but not for his master, zombie jackal had shattered the last of Khaldun’s control.

Consciously linked to his spiritual beast and not yet learning how to mentally separate, every damage inflicted on Black Wolf also affected Khaldun ten times worse.

Going insane from pain, Khaldun thrashed around wildly on the grass, as if in the grips of a deadly seizure.

A fierce almost savage chaotic spirit energy was spreading rapidly through the air.

Man or spirit beast the oppression radiating intensely from Khaldun was pressing down on everyone in the vicinity.

Sparks of invisible lightning-like spirit energy struck the ground at various points leaving burnt ground and smoke in its wake.

(EMERGENCY WARNING: S-tier Sentinel Khaldun Wolfe. Location: Sunken Garden, Paradise Campus Hospital. Rampage Level: 79%)

The message came through loud and clear on Sly’s spiritchoker instantly filling his mind with terror.

Khaldun’s and Sly’s eyes met across the lawn.

A swirling grotesque maroon vomit green mass of chaotic spirit energy wrapped around the sentinel’s body.

Out of nowhere a turbulent vortex of chaotic spirit energy formed above Khaldun’s head.

Sly wasn’t completely clueless; he recognized this swirling power pouring out of the vortex instantly.

This was Khaldun’s unique signature spirit energy!

Which meant that the murky cesspool water pouring from the vortex hellbent on flooding everything in its path was coming from Khaldun’s own spirit landscape.
