Mindless Beasts

Chapter 62: Nothing was private

The next morning Sly woke he was alone and felt much better.

He had just finished watching his face after coming out of the shower when he saw a Preston Hall uniform in his size waiting for him on the bed with matching combat boots.

Mr. Howard had left it on the bed along with a note to get ready then eat breakfast while he filled out the release papers at the registration desk.

After he finished the breakfast Mr. Howard accompanied Sly into a company car, it was extremely slow in comparison to the phantom supercar.

Paradise Military Academy was really big, Sly soon grew sleepy watching buildings whizz by then seeing nothing but shrubs and grassland for miles around.

When they finally reached their destination Mr. Howard nudged him awake and Sly Foxx gazed at the adjacent building facing him.

At the entrance there was a sign that read GUIDE LEARNING CENTER in bold.

Mr. Howard mentioned that there was a high voltage electric fence separating the perimeter of the property from the establishment of the Sentinel Learning Center.

It was a necessary prevention measure to establish firm boundaries for sentinels and guides that encountered difficulties learning to control their powers and avoid unnecessary disasters.

When most sentinels undergo differentiation they tend to lack any sense of needing to protect guides.

In the Capital, guides and sentinels normally received separate educations, with entirely different curriculums.

Here at Paradise Military Academy things were done differently.

As a coeducational institution there were many courses taken by both guides and sentinels in the same classroom.

Unlike other strict military academies, PMA didn’t enforce rigid and strict regulations, and were known for granting their enrolled students a significant amount of free time everyday.

The GLC was the only exclusive area restricted solely to guides for rigorous training and the enrichment of their education in the military.

It seemed like a tranquil and peaceful area surrounded by flowers and rows of neat vegetation.

For newly awakened guides this designated land was a safe haven for guides undergoing differentiation that were overwhelmed by the manifestation of their spiritual energy.

This place was where they were sent to learn to control their spirit energy for the first time.

Guides received their certification from the center when they are capable of providing mental grooming to sentinels.

It was here they were molded into decent, respectable and hardworking guides and taught that their future as guides was filled with many professions.

To be a registered guide was something to be proud of and to hold their heads high no matter the circumstances.

Most guides value their safety and comfort, most choose roles in careers like medical, clerical and logistics.

Very rarely do guides willingly follow sentinels straight to the battlefields.

Likewise sentinels are naturally prolific at combat skills, most after graduation tend to go straight to the battlefield to fight against the enemy alien races.

Or sentinels may join legions that specialize in defending the Ephedra empire’s interstellar borders.

Thanks to Mr. Howard’s kindness Sly got a complete tour of the center, learning the purpose of each building and where his classes were scheduled to be held.

Mr. Howard was very perceptive and addressed many issues before the problem even crossed Sly’s mind.

He was also a very patient listener and answered Sly’s queries without complaint.

Now it was breakfast time and they were heading in the direction of the main cafeteria, betas, omegas and alphas sat in little cliques conversing and eating.

When Sly entered the room behind Mr. Howard, all socializing instantly halted and several pairs of eyes followed their every move.

He returned the stares with a sheepish grin trying not to make contact with anyone until he unfortunately locked eyes with William.

Sitting beside him was his half brother Victor who still looked like the egotistical, selfcentered, perfectly roomed bitch that he remembered, still a schemer trying to climb to the top of the social ladder at PMA.

When he caught Victor staring at Sly he possessively grabbed a hold of Victor’s hand to show off that he had successfully stolen Sly’s fiance.

Victor wore a smug look, with those plump cherubic cheeks and fashionable hair cut that made him look like a delicate porcelain doll.

A very vain, obsessive and creepy mannequin.

That gripped his lover’s hands tightly and managed to shoot Sly a look of deep hatred when William wasn’t paying attention.

The epitome of a jealous boyfriend, Sy would be upset too if his lover was eying his rival and practically undressing Sly as if he was naked with his eyes.

Thankfully the canteen wasn’t their final destination; it was just a quick shortcut that led to the Brigade Tactical Department.

The BTD was responsible for managing the day-to-day tactical evaluation, mentorship, and disciplinary tracking of all enrolled students.

This also held the Dean of Discipline’s office.

Where the Dean, which was the very same Spirit Guardian that he met on the day of the admissions test, insisted on meeting with Sly before he could attend classes.

The Dean welcomed them into his office and dismissed most of his enforcers until only two of his most trusted remained with them.

Doing their duty the enforcers took up opposite sides of the office, looking intimidating and deadly.

After he was seated, Sly felt less like he was a prisoner about to face the firing squad.

The Dean fixed his angry eyes on Sly looking like he was about to lose his shit on Sly and make the little omega wet his pants.

Before the Dean could burst a blood vessel a familiar voice stopped him.

"Dean Drakos."

Startled, it was only then Sly realized that someone else was standing in the room.

Sly pretended to be at ease, trying very hard to keep his emotions from unraveling at the sight of Khaldun Wolfe.

Then it was time for the one hour lecture to begin.

Sly flinched at some of the expressive and colorful obscene language that the Dean used to describe their recent actions.

He blushed so much that Sly wished the ground would just open and swallow him, it seemed nothing was private at the academy.

The Dean covered topics such as chain of command, responsibility, reckless endangerment, selfishness and destruction of property and so on.

When the tirade shifted from Sly to Khaldun that was when he perked up and sat up straight in his seat.

"You... you," sputtered Dean Drakos. "You Khaldun Wolfe violated the rules amongst our kind. All evidence has led me to believe that you deliberately raised your rampage level to dangerous heights. You kidnapped an untrained guide to use as a plaything and stabilizing battery. What if your plan failed? Our enemies, those detestable aliens would love to have you join their side, for you would destroy the academy for free, you despicable fool."

"Khaldun didn’t kidnap me!" Sly blurted out without thinking before he spoke. "I wanted to go to his tent. I pretended to be an experienced guide. Don’t blame Khaldun."

The Dean of Discipline tsked loudly at both of them from behind his desk, gavel in hand he was ready to pass down judgment on both their heads.
