Mindless Beasts

Chapter 63: Breaking the rules

"Khaldun Wolfe, it is my belief that you wanted to test if Sly Foxx was really a B-tier omega guide by now you should have your answers and won’t pull such a manipulative or reckless stunt again. Sly Foxx you are not without liability once you have been accepted into Paradise Military Academy as a guide you have a sworn duty to the Ephedra empire the moment you noticed something was wrong you should have notified the authorities and not accepted whatever sweet talk Khaldun whispered in your ears to satisfy your own curiosity. Both of you broke our trust and violated the rules by selfishly doing things your own way."

Something deep inside Sly snapped.

"Even though untrained, I did my duty to Ephedra and guided an S-tier alpha for the first time but no one is talking about that!"

Sly shrieked, while jumping out of his chair in frustration.

Guardian Drakos and Mr. Howard both flinched but made no attempt to stop Sly since he wasn’t going out of control.

Yet.

Sly shouted, "It was I who guided Khaldun and prevented his death. It was because of me why this entire campus is still around, if he had exploded the both of you wouldn’t be sitting here calmly trying to lecture me. You would instead be dealing with the fallout from a catastrophe of epic proportions. That S-tier fiend over there was a ticking time bomb that was allowed to do as he pleased because Royal Alpha’s beneficial to the empire and now you’re trying to pin his misdeeds on me."

He made a dramatic sweeping gesture with his hands, Sly had the whole room in a tizzy that this shy looking omega was actually speaking out and defending himself.

Dramatically Sly concluded his tirade, "I made a choice that I felt was right at the time, under pressure I coped and did what I had to do by providing guiding to Khaldun. There was no one else around in close proximity with the capabilities to do it, so I did what I had to do. I’ll be damned before I let my military career end before it has even properly started!"

Khaldun had definitely renewed the temporary mark while Sly had been unconscious and something about it had changed too.

It seemed like the temporary mark the second time around was even stronger than the initial mark.

There was now a definite bond created between Khaldun and Sly, he could even feel Khaldun trying to send him calming silent messages through the temporary mark.

As if Khaldun was trying to tell Sly to keep his anger in check and not let it control his actions.

Message received but it was already too late.

Enforcer Drakos scrutinized Sly from head to toe with an impassive face. "Sly Foxx there is a reason why the academy has rules, ignorance isn’t an acceptable excuse for breaking the rules. So forgive if I fail to see the logic behind your naive outlook. We have a system in place designed for Khaldun Wolfe that has yet to fail. You took it upon your head to circumvent these rules and tried to guide him with subpar skills that could have easily failed unless there is something you are yet to share with the rest of us?"

Anxious, Sly bit his lips.

It’s not like he could reveal that he had guidance from his family’s spirit guardian, Mimosa.

So Sly just kept his mouth shut in frustration.

"Since you have nothing to say I guess you’re finally seeing things my way. Even though narrowly managed to avoid disaster as a disciplinarian I cannot condone your actions Sly Foxx. So your recent outburst only makes my decision much easier as a Royal Alpha Khaldun Wolfe’s safety as a S-tier alpha comes first any distractions that may cause him to neglect his duty to the Ephedra empire are always quickly nipped in the bud. We have an obligation to keep Khaldun Wolfe at the academy but you’re a needless distraction that in my judgment should be set away as quickly as possible. I will recommend your expulsion to the Commandant."

Sly felt his confidence evaporate into thin air at this harsh criticism. "Wh... wh...what!"

It was Khaldun who lost his composure and came to stand beside Sly pulling him into his arms protectively as if shielding him from the verbal attacks of Dean Drakos but the damage had already been done.

Khaldun spoke, "Dean Drakos I beg you reconsider, Sly Foxx is my fated mate and potential exclusive guide."

"I’ll disregard the former and focus on the latter," scoffed Guardian Drakos.

What do young people know about love?

The idea of fated mates was nonsense, just popular romantic drivel spouted by mouths that don’t want to live in reality.

Dean Drakos continued, "Sly Foxx is no such thing, let’s address the fact that he is still a novice and can’t do guiding properly. So it stands to reason that he can’t be an exclusive guide for an S-tier alpha."

His beady eyes looked provokingly at Sly when the Dean spat those last words as if throwing down a challenge that Sly could never hope to obtain.

Sly just continued to stare blankly at the disciplinarian unable to accept what he was hearing.

He certainly would not return to the Dncan’s residence and even if he was to serve as an apprentice to Dr. Jennings, it would take some time to contact the doctor on his travels.

Where would Sly stay in the meantime without food or money?

Surprisingly, it was Mr. Howard who intervened, "isn’t it obvious Dean Drakos, they have formed a bond from a simple temporary mark."

Mr. Howard was so quiet and silently observing the entire time that it was easy to forget that he was there.

His low, profound voice broke the oppressive tension in the room and all eyes swiveled in his direction.

He didn’t break a sweat at being in the spotlight and Sly felt his admiration for the lowkey advisor deepen.

Mr. Howard represented the Empire Guide Association and his presence was simply too powerful to be ignored.

Then Mr. Howard looked up at Khaldun from his seat and questioned, "You know what Sly is feeling currently. Don’t you?"
