Khaldun simply nodded.
Dean Drakos was at loss for words as he glanced between the guides and the sentinel.
"Ridiculous. You’re just trying to use any loophole you can find to get out of this expulsion. There hasn’t been a perfect match in decades."
Mr. Howard persisted, "Can’t you tell? I heard about their unusual behavior at the hospital from Dr. Shirley. Now that I have observed them together it has confirmed my suspicions."
Sly was confused.
Did Mr. Howard really think that he and Khaldun were a perfect match, what did that mean for the both of them?
Neither Khaldun nor Sly contested Mr. Howard’s statement and Sly refused to make eye contact with the Royal Alpha.
Mr. Howard was excited and said gleefully, "this is a cause for celebration not expulsion. We can finally boast of having the latest S+ couple. Think about what this can do to boost the reputation of Paradise Military Academy, if trained well this pair will be unstoppable in the future."
Khaldun mused, "in oral history the best sentinels and guides always shared that bond. I’m more than willing to make Sly my exclusive guide and explore that bond together."
Dean Drakos face turned beet red and his outrage escalated, "both of you already have such disregard for the rules. Mr. Howard, surely you aren’t suggesting that Sly Foxx remain at Paradise Military Academy after everything he’s done."
Mr. Howard shrugged, "I can always bring this up to the Commandant, the alumni and the sponsors if you wish. Sly might be naive but he’s also very intelligent, even so he has the potential to—"
"He has a weak spirit plant!" interrupted Dean Drakos. "It’s a miracle he even managed to survive this long. Foxx is currently listed as B-tier guide in the system and you still think he can perfectly match with a S-tier sentinel without ruffling some feathers! We’ll become a laughing stock in the Ephedra Empire."
Dean Drakos got up from his seat while throwing his hands up in the air with exasperation.
One of his hands accidentally knocked a stack of paper off his desk but he ignored the mess and got up in Mr. Howard’s face.
"All the best laid plans and wishful thinking can’t change the fact that he is a useless guide with only a spirit plant for protection. An S-tier sentinel needs a guide that he can take to the battlefield. Sly Foxx will only be a distraction and a burden to him."
"No I won’t," interrupted Sly crossly but no one paid him any mind.
Through their bond Sly could sense Khaldun’s elation and trickle of hope.
Mr. Howard did not back down, "then train Sly Foxx properly. Teach him how to use his spirit plant not just for defense but also to attack. Let him do courses at the GLC and also learn combat skills. Classes have just resumed so it’s not like Sly would have fallen way behind. Give him additional support and extra supplementary classes if needed."
They argued for another forty-five minutes before Dean Drakos surrendered while muttering under his breath that Mr. Howard missed his calling as a lawyer.
Dean Drakos stated, "If Sly Foxx stays here, going forward this is what will happen."
He made sure to have Sly’s undivided attention before the Dean continued speaking.
"You will be placed on probation for this current school term, get in trouble just once and you will face expulsion without a hearing. All classes and required training for novice guides your age are mandatory. You will have combat sessions with both Verde and Khaldun in all your free sessions both before and after classes. You are only allowed to attend Preston Hall events, you are not allowed to leave the campus or participate in social activities with the other Halls until your Probation is lifted. Failure to comply with any of these precedents and you will be expelled. Do I make myself clear?"
Sly nodded his agreement even though secretly the omega felt he had done nothing wrong and was just cursed.
Finally the meeting was over and Sly thought he would get the remainder of the day to rest but that was not the case.
Both Khaldun and Sly were told to go straight to class by that miserable old dragon.
They separated and Mr. Howard took Sly to meet with a beta guidance counselor Mr. Park, he was young and fresh out of college and very eager to help.
The visit took another thirty minutes, where the counselor asked a lot of personal questions, mostly about background and family history.
Mr. Park also made notes about Sly’s experience with his differentiation and added it to the file.
Based on his assessment he handed Sly a class schedule suited to his needs or so he claimed.
Sly thanked him gracefully for the schedule and they left the room.
Mr. Howard had another appointment so Sly thanked him profusely for saving his neck.
After exchanging goodbyes Sly headed towards his first class.
1st Period - Marksmanship and Weaponry
2nd Period - Beginner Guide Basic Combat Training (BCT)
3rd Period - Military Law and Code of Conduct
4th Period - Ephedra Empire History, Tactical and Field Craft
LUNCH
5th Period - Spirit Plant and Beast Theory
6th Period - Guide Culture, Drill and Ceremony
7th Period - Beginner Healing Techniques, First aid and Tactical Combat Casualty Care
8th Period - Food and Nutrition
He had missed the first period but if he rushed Sly could catch the start of BCT.
This class was being held in the gym and when Sly entered he received the same attention from his classmates as he had in the canteen earlier.
If he wanted to fit in Sly couldn’t be shy or act like he was afraid of his classmates.
Scanning the crowd of classmates slowly closing in on Sly he spotted a familiar face and could barely contain his relief.
Sly’s face broke out into a wide smile and he could barely stop his cheesy grin as he greeted the classmate.
"Hello Jake!"
"It’s Jack...Jack Winchester." corrected Jack with a grimace.
"Sorry, my bad," said Sly. "I remember you from the rookie challenge. How’s your spirit beast the white owl doing?"
