After all, reasonable and rational communication is the mark of civilization. But to insist on communicating rationally with a beast that has already killed is no longer a matter of logic. It’s like shoving a gun barrel in your own mouth and waiting for someone else to pull the trigger. When faced with a beast that has slaughtered people, even the most civilized person has no choice but to kill it.
To put it more simply: those who kill will themselves be killed. So, why couldn’t he, Su Zhou, be the one to do it?
Su Zhou, for his part, had been prepared to die long before he made his move. He could have remained a mere bystander to this Reincarnation, but he chose to defy it. As such, whether he killed the Water God or the Water God killed him, it was all the same; he would have no complaints.
After all, in his eyes, death itself was far less terrible than idly watching others suffer. The former was merely the destruction of the body, but the latter would shake his very Soul, until the essence of his self was no more.
As for the fact that Su Zhou was an outsider, that he had no right to interfere with this world’s cycle of Eras... did that right need to be granted by someone else? Su Zhou clearly had the power and the motivation to save this world, and so, he would.
The most basic, rock-bottom reason was this: he had already resolved to find the Silent Lord and save this world. If he hadn’t stumbled upon this whole mess created by the Water God, Su Zhou would probably be exploring the Gray Mist right now, or wandering the deepest parts of the Maze in search of the Silent Lord’s incarnation.
That being the case, the moment he decided to ’prevent the apocalypse,’ Su Zhou had already placed this world under his ’protection.’ And now, someone within this world was slaughtering the very people he intended to protect. So, even if that person was theoretically also part of what he sought to ’protect,’ Su Zhou would still strike them down.
It all came back to the same reason: if they could do such a thing to others, then others could do the same to them. There was no room for excuses about morality or how they ’had no choice.’ Never mind that they could have sought a civilized solution through communication instead of resorting to slaughter; even by the logic of beasts, it was perfectly reasonable. It was simply meeting violence with violence.
As for the right to interfere—if an Otherworldly Person had no right to stop a massacre occurring in this world, then they had no right to save it, either.
Conversely, since Su Zhou had made his decision to defeat the Silent Lord’s incarnation and save this world the moment he learned of its impending doom, then everything in this world was his business. *Everything*. All the affairs of this world were now his concern!
The logic was just that simple.
"I want to become a kind of Celestial Tribulation, Yara."
The youth had transformed into a Giant Dragon, and his voice, immense enough to make the very air tremble, resounded: "An inescapable calamity and a form of retribution."
"If I were a Celestial Tribulation, a disaster, a form of retribution that ensures all evil is punished, then the Divine Beings of this Era—fearing the consequences I’d bring—wouldn’t dare to attack each other. Instead, they would communicate peacefully, cooperate, and join forces to find a way to survive the end of the Era."
As he traveled, the scales on Su Zhou’s body were slowly regenerating, and his Great Celestial Cloud Seed began to reform.
Buoyed by Wind Aid, his speed grew faster and faster, even surpassing his top running speed from when he was at the Extraordinary Tier. Su Zhou was now moving at two hundred and seventy meters per second, and if he kept accelerating, he could even cruise at subsonic speeds.
And this was the power of the Commander Tier. By using his own strength to connect with the great Source of power in the world, Su Zhou’s Wind Aid seemed to have evolved. With a single thought, he could conjure a Gale to follow him, reducing air resistance.
Surrounded by the Gale, he mused aloud, "The Prisoner’s Dilemma... those trapped inside the system can’t break out of it on their own. But if an outsider—if *I*—were there, a ’Celestial Tribulation’ to act as the ultimate, binding standard, then no one would have to assume the worst of others. Unburdened by the fear of being harmed, they could surely live in harmony. We would never again see a situation where the Water God, for the sake of its own survival and to compete with the Wind God, turns to slaughtering the Earth People."
’—If the civilizations of every Era faced retribution the moment they attempted to harm another or even refused to cooperate, then even the most xenophobic and vile of Races and civilizations would have no choice but to hold their noses, sit down at the negotiating table, and work together in earnest to face the apocalypse.’
If only there were such a power...
Yara did not immediately respond to Su Zhou’s ’fantasy.’ The road was filled with Silence, and only the rhythmic breathing of the Giant Dragon could be heard.
Then came a long sigh. Su Zhou exhaled in frustration. "Why isn’t there?"
Only then did the Snake Spirit speak, its voice leisurely and tinged with a hint of nostalgia. "And why can’t there be?"
"Su Zhou, if you want to become a Celestial Tribulation, then why not become one? It’s just... to become the standard, to become a Celestial Tribulation, requires absolute power. Isn’t your current anguish born from the very fact that you were too weak to stop the Water God’s massacre from the beginning?"
