In other words, the current Su Zhou needed to refine the flesh and blood of his True Body, bit by bit, converting it entirely into his own power before he could return to human form.
This wasn’t a major issue for Su Zhou. It would just take another ten or twenty days of slow refinement. For the people of Naisel City, however, it was rather frightening. After all, such a powerful Exotic Magical Beast could scare someone into having a heart attack. Though Su Zhou quickly earned everyone’s trust with his strength, making them understand that this Wingless Great Dragon was indeed him, he couldn’t very well live in a house now. He could only stay in the public square.
"Is that Lord Su Zhou’s transformed state?"
"That True Body... it’s a bit strange. It looks like a Dragon, but it doesn’t have wings..."
"But it feels so powerful!"
Numerous whispers arose. The fear in their words gradually faded, replaced by admiration. "So awesome! The scales, the dorsal ridge, the tail fin, that huge tail... It’s just so awesome!"
Yara could be heard tutting from within the scales. ’I thought Su Zhou’s ridiculous popularity would vanish after he revealed his exotic True Body. I didn’t expect it to work even after the transformation.’
’As for the fear of ordinary people... what’s there to be afraid of? It’s not like this world doesn’t have shape-shifting Druids. They might only be able to turn into bears, wolves, or owls, but they can still become beasts. Su Zhou’s transformation is just far more powerful than any Druid’s.’
This was a Magic World with Extraordinary Power, after all. Applying the logic of a normal world was bound to lead to discrepancies. The common people here were no strangers to such transformations.
Besides, everyone had witnessed Su Zhou protect the city, drive back the Water God, and make the torrential rains recede. They practically worshiped him as a God now. Su Zhou had returned, but the monstrous Giant Whale had not. Though Su Zhou didn’t elaborate, everyone knew what that meant.
The Water God Believers in the distance had also mostly retreated. The threat of Naisel City’s annihilation had been averted, and he had saved the lives of the city’s million inhabitants.
Moreover, Su Zhou had now broken through to the Commander Tier, becoming a Near-God Powerhouse, the likes of which hadn’t appeared in a millennium. No one would dare question such a Powerhouse. Whatever his True Body looked like was, by definition, impressive. After all, aesthetics have always been defined by the powerful—it is not the powerful who conform to the aesthetic tastes of others.
But aside from these encouraging developments, there was also some bad news.
"Elias is dying?"
Having just returned to the city, Su Zhou learned this deeply unpleasant news from a guard of the Duke’s Mansion. He frowned, his massive dragon head looking somewhat savage. "Was the Holy Water I left behind useless?"
Having spent so much time in the Tartadis World, Elias was the human he knew best. The gray-eyed youth was young, but he was methodical and principled in his conduct. To Su Zhou, he was like a young Shao Qiming. Whether handling official duties or interacting with people, he had a refreshing and pleasant presence, and he truly had a heart dedicated to his domain.
According to the guards, they had always thought even a Duke needed to be trained for the role. But Elias... he was like a natural-born leader, a born Duke.
But now, Elias was gravely wounded from reversing the Elemental Array. In fact, that was the very reason Su Zhou had been able to defeat the Water God. Without the blow that had knocked the Water God out of the sky, Su Zhou would never have been able to inflict so much subsequent damage on the Giant Whale and ultimately defeat it.
"We used it, Lord Su Zhou. The Holy Water was very effective. Otherwise, the Duke would have died long ago."
The guard from the Duke’s Mansion knelt on one knee before the draconic Su Zhou, his voice low as he answered. The guard insisted on performing the gesture out of respect, even though Su Zhou had previously told him, "Don’t kneel. If you do, I won’t even be able to see you."
As he led Su Zhou to the area where Elias was being treated, the guard continued to explain, "The elements within the Duke’s body are in turmoil. It’s an incurable condition, and his only hope is to recuperate slowly in a place where the elements are stable. But now that the Elemental Array is gone, Naisel City is no longer protected, and elemental conversion has started to stagnate again. Many of our Healing Magic spells have lost their effectiveness, and the same is true for Healing Potions... We have no other choice but to ask for your help."
"Say no more. I’ll go and see the situation for myself."
Even Su Zhou couldn’t guarantee that he could save Elias. After all, the effectiveness of his blood ultimately depended on how much the recipient trusted him. ’Just how much does Elias trust me? Only he himself knows the answer to that.’
’—Still, has the elemental conversion really become stagnant?’
As he focused his senses, Su Zhou made a strange discovery. He didn’t seem to feel this stagnation at all. Yet, when he had first arrived in the Tartadis World, he had clearly felt it.
’This means something about me must have changed, reducing the negative effects of the elemental stagnation.’
’Compared to back then, I’ve only undergone two changes: one, the successful Gathering of my True Body, and two, reaching the Commander Tier.’
With this in mind, Su Zhou strode toward an Alchemy Workshop that reeked of Magic Potions. Elias was inside, receiving treatment from the alchemists and Alchemists. Su Zhou’s massive draconic body thudded along the waterlogged streets, leaving enormous footprints in his wake.
