Mr.Nobody: I am inside a webcomic?!

Chapter 178: Stainless Steel Bastards

FLASH!

Nobody disappeared. The remaining enemies stared at the empty space.

One whispered. "...Where did he go?"

Another swallowed. "I don’t know."

Nobody appeared inside the facility. His Night Vision activated.

The abandoned building suddenly became clear. Old machinery filled the main room. Rusty rails ran across the floor. Broken tools were scattered around the walls.

Nobody looked toward the System marker. It pointed toward a staircase. He climbed. His footsteps were almost silent.

Then he heard voices.

"Check the room!"

"She’s still inside!"

Nobody stopped.

A girl’s voice came from behind a door. "Please..."

Nobody’s expression hardened. He reached the door. It was also locked. Nobody raised one crowbar. The frost energy spread across the metal. The lock froze. He struck it once.

The mechanism broke. The door opened.

A young girl was sitting inside. She immediately looked toward him. Her eyes widened. "Who are you?"

Nobody crouched. "I’m here to get you out."

The girl stared at his helmet. "...Are you the Crimson Bunny?"

Nobody sighed. "Why does everyone know that?"

She almost smiled. "My brother told me about you."

Nobody extended his hand. "Then your brother has excellent judgment."

The girl hesitated before taking his hand.

Nobody helped her stand.

The System appeared.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

[Critical Target Secured]

Status:

Safe

Rescue Progress:

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Nobody smiled. "Twenty-six."

Then the System displayed another notification.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

[Hostile Individuals Defeated]

129/200

Remaining:

71

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Nobody looked at it. "Seventy-one." He glanced toward the doorway. "Still a lot."

The girl looked worried. "Are there more bad people?"

Nobody nodded. "Outside."

She looked frightened again.

Nobody lowered himself slightly. "Don’t worry." He pointed toward the exit. "I’m going to clear the way."

He walked back into the hallway. Several footsteps were approaching. Nobody tightened his grip around the crowbars.

The first attacker appeared. Then another. Then another.

Nobody smiled. "Alright." He stepped forward. "Round two."

The first man attacked. Nobody blocked. The second swung. He dodged. The third charged. Nobody activated Zig Zag.

FLASH.

He disappeared. Then reappeared between them. His crowbars moved with precision. One attack was redirected. Another weapon was knocked aside.

A third attacker stumbled as Nobody slipped past him. Nobody wasn’t fighting recklessly. Every movement had a purpose. Every strike created another opening.

And every defeated enemy brought him closer to the System’s reward.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

[Hostile Individuals Defeated]

135/200

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Nobody glanced at the counter. "Sixty-five." He smiled. "Now we’re getting somewhere."

Outside, the rescued girl waited near the entrance. For the first time that night, she wasn’t afraid. Because she knew someone was fighting for her.

Nobody emerged several moments later. He looked toward the girl. "Ready?"

She nodded. Nobody walked beside her. The authorities were already being contacted. Once the girl was safely handed over, Nobody turned toward the city.

The System immediately produced another marker.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

[Next Rescue Target Located]

Danger Level:

High

Distance:

8.7 Kilometers

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Nobody stared. "Already?"

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

[Yes.]

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Nobody sighed. Then smiled. "Fine." He looked toward the dark skyline. "Seventy-four left." The blue glow of Zig Zag Teleportation surrounded him. "Sixty-five bad guys left." He crouched. "Let’s keep going."

FLASH.

Nobody disappeared into the night.

.....

The city had gradually fallen quieter. Nobody had been moving for hours.

One rescue location after another had appeared on the System map,and one after another, the markers had disappeared. Factories, abandoned apartments, storage buildings, hidden rooms beneath restaurants and even a deserted construction site.

Every location had been different. Every group of enemies had been different. But the result had remained the same.

Nobody arrived. He fought. He rescued the target. Then he disappeared before anyone could properly understand what had happened.

The System continued counting everything.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

[Nightly Rescue Progress]

Targets Rescued:

84/85

Remaining:

1

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Nobody stood on the rooftop of a half-abandoned building and stared at the notification. "...One." He slowly lowered the System window. "Just one left."

The exhaustion he had been feeling earlier had almost disappeared. The repeated battles had kept him moving for hours. His clothes were dusty. His gloves were scratched. Even the frost crowbars showed marks from the countless weapons that had struck them. But Nobody was still standing.

And there was something else.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

[Secondary Objective]

Hostile Individuals Defeated:

199/200

Remaining:

1

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Nobody stared at the number. Then slowly smiled. "One bad guy." He raised one finger. "And one rescue target."

The System remained silent.

Nobody looked at it. "Don’t tell me this is going to be some kind of final boss situation."

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

[The System cannot confirm.]

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Nobody narrowed his eyes. "...That’s exactly what something would say before a final boss situation."

The System disappeared.

Nobody looked toward the final marker. It was located far away from the crowded center of the city.

The district looked almost completely abandoned. No major roads. No bright signs. Just an enormous industrial complex surrounded by high concrete walls.

Nobody studied the map. "The last target is there."

The marker pulsed.

Once.

Twice.

Then the entire System map flickered.

Nobody’s expression changed. "...What was that?"

The map returned to normal.

Nobody stared at it for several seconds. "System?"

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

[Yes.]

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

"Did something just interfere with the map?"

There was a brief pause.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

[The System detected an abnormal energy fluctuation.]

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Nobody’s smile disappeared. "From the target location?"

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

[Affirmative.]

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Nobody looked toward the dark horizon. "Of course." He activated Zig Zag Teleportation. Blue energy surrounded his body.

FLASH.

He disappeared from the rooftop. He reappeared above a highway.

FLASH.

A bridge.

FLASH.

Another rooftop.

FLASH.

The top of an old water tower. He continued moving until the city gradually disappeared behind him. The industrial district became visible.

Nobody landed on a tall building overlooking the complex. He immediately noticed something strange.

A dark mist seemed to surround the entire area. It wasn’t smoke. It looked more like the air itself had become distorted.

Nobody stared. "...System."

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

[Yes.]

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

"Something is definitely off about this place."

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

[Environmental Analysis]

Unknown energy detected.

Source:

Central Industrial Complex

Classification:

External Influence

Threat Level:

Unstable

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Nobody slowly reached for his crowbars. "So the last rescue location is where the weird stuff is happening." He looked toward the enormous complex. "Great."

He jumped from the building. Halfway down, he activated Zig Zag Teleportation.

FLASH.

He appeared directly beside the outer wall.

The moment his feet touched the ground, the strange atmosphere became much more noticeable.

The air felt heavy. Not physically. It was more like something was pressing against the surroundings.

Nobody looked at his hands. Then at the wall. "Whatever is happening here..." He paused. "...I don’t like it." He stepped through a broken section of the wall.

The inside of the complex was completely dark. Several abandoned trucks sat between the buildings. Rusty pipes ran along the walls. Old industrial equipment had been left exactly where it had been years ago.

Nobody activated Night Vision. The darkness disappeared from his perception. He could see the entire courtyard.

Nobody took another step. Then he heard something.

Footsteps of several. No dozens.

Nobody stopped. "...That’s a lot of people."

The System suddenly appeared.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

[Warning]

External Influence Detected.

Multiple Enhanced Individuals Approaching.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Nobody’s eyes narrowed. "Enhanced?"

The warehouse doors suddenly opened. Several men stepped outside. Then more appeared behind them.

And more. Within seconds, the courtyard was filled with people.

Nobody slowly looked across the crowd.

Some carried metal pipes. Some held knives. Others had firearms. But that wasn’t what caught his attention. Their bodies were glowing. A strange metallic sheen covered their skin. Some had silver-colored arms. Others had metallic patches spreading across their shoulders and faces.

A few appeared to have entire sections of their bodies transformed into something resembling polished metal.

Nobody stared. "...Are they..." He tilted his head. "...Are they fucking metallic now?"

The System responded.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

[External Influence Enhancedment Detected]

Warning:

Multiple human bodies have undergone abnormal physical reinforcement.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Nobody stared at the crowd. Then looked upward. "The higher being is now pissing me off."

Nobody had already dealt with enhanced humans before.

The armored bodyguard. The strange reality distortion. Rian’s abnormal ability. And now this. Whatever force was influencing these people wasn’t stopping. It was spreading.

A man suddenly stepped forward. His skin had a dull silver appearance. His muscles looked unusually dense. The metallic surface reflected the dim lights around the facility.

Nobody raised his crowbars.

The man grinned. "You came all this way just to die?"

Nobody looked him over. "Actually, I came for someone else." He pointed toward the building behind the crowd. "There’s a kid here."

The man’s grin widened. "Not anymore."

Nobody’s expression changed. "...What?"

The man suddenly crouched. Then launched himself forward. His movement was far faster than his enormous body suggested.

Nobody barely had time to react. The man came straight toward him. Nobody swung both frost crowbars upward. The first crowbar struck the top of the man’s head. The second followed immediately.

The impact should have dropped an ordinary human. Instead, the metallic man’s head barely moved. He remained standing.

Nobody stared. The man slowly lifted his head. Then grinned.

Nobody looked at the crowbars. "...Nice stainless steel."

The metallic man laughed. "You think your little weapons can hurt me?" He swung his fist.

Nobody immediately moved. The fist passed directly beside him. Nobody twisted his body while bringing both crowbars up to intercept the next strike.

The man’s fist crashed against the crossed weapons. The force pushed Nobody backward. His boots scraped across the concrete. He managed to stop himself.

"...Okay." He looked at the man.

"That one actually has some weight."
