The door to Professor Rose’s office hissed open, and the first thing that hit Lynx wasn’t the heat, or the pressure in the air, it was her.
Rose Firehart stood behind her desk, bathed in the red glow of the sigil on her forehead, and it pulsed once and slowly, like it was alive, like it was matching her heartbeat.
He’d only ever seen one other person with a different Blessed mark, himself, and seeing it on her made something in his chest tighten, because it made her look divine, dangerous, untouchable, and he wanted to touch her anyway.
Her hair was down, long and reddish, falling past her waist in waves that caught the firelight from the sconces and threw it back like liquid, and the gown she wore now? gods, the gown.
It wasn’t the stiff teaching pants and shirt she usually wore, this was fitted, red, high slit, low cut, sleeves that hugged her arms and flared at the wrists, and it clung to every inch of her like it had been poured on.
It traced the fullness of her chest, cinched her waist, and did absolutely nothing to hide the flare of her hips or the way her ass looked when she shifted, plump, round, enough to make a man forget his name.
Lynx’s eyes tracked down, then back up, and he had to bite the inside of his cheek to keep from laughing, because she knew exactly what she was doing. It almost seemed like she changed outfits for just him.
"Professor," he said, voice dragging, hands still in his pockets like he didn’t have a care in the world. "You look like you’re trying to start a war, or finish one, I can’t tell which."
Rose didn’t answer, she just stared at him, her red eyes sharp, her jaw set, and beneath all of that he could feel it, her aura.
Pressing against his skin like standing too close to a furnace, heavier than before, denser, sharper, like she’d been grinding in secret and came back wrong.
She’d gotten stronger. Really stronger.
He let Primordial Vision flicker, and the numbers nearly made him choke.

"...You’ve gotten stronger," Lynx said before he could stop himself, and it came out quieter than he meant. "That’s a hell of a jump, from when I first walked into this academy."
Rose’s mouth curved, not a smile, a warning.
"How did you know?" she asked, her were voice low.
"I can feel it," Lynx said, stepping further in, letting the heat wash over him. "Your aura’s stronger and denser. That’s good news, Fire Queen Rose."
She watched him, for one long second, then she moved, pushing off the desk, her heels clicking against the steel floor and with every step that gown moved with her.
Showing her smooth leg, showing her curves, and behind her, half hidden by the bookshelf, was a faint shimmer, a small circular portal, red at the edges.
Leading straight to her room at her house, she just had to walk through the portal to appear at her house, really convenient.
She stopped a few feet from him, close enough that he could see the faint flush on her neck, close enough that the memory hit them both at once, the kiss, almost three months ago, when he kissed her unexpectedly before leaving through her portal.
She remembered, he could see it, and the system whispered in the back of his head, he could hear the ever arrogant voice.
[She touches herself to you at night Lynx, she’s starved for you and you have to claim her.]
And now she wanted to punch him for it.
"Don’t look at me like that," Rose snapped suddenly, and her voice was tighter than usual. She wanted to intimidate him and was now being the one intimidated.
"Like what?" Lynx tilted his head, smirk firmly in place. "Like you’re the most beautiful woman in this academy, like I’ve been thinking about you every night, while you’re avoiding me and texting me one worded texts."
"Stop," she said, and her hands twitched at her sides.
"Or what?"
She answered with fire, but not just one fireball, she came at him with everything.
First, a lance of white hot flame shot from her palm, thin and fast, aimed straight for his eyes, he leaned back and it screamed past his ear.
Then she twisted her wrist and a whip of fire cracked across the floor, chasing his feet, then three orbs, spinning and rotating, came from above, down in a triangle, and when he sidestepped those, a wave of heat rolled across the room, meant to cook him where he stood.
Lynx moved, not very fast, he moved smoothly, like water around rocks, he was ducking, and spinning, letting the whip miss his ankle by an inch as the orbs detonated against the wall behind him and left glowing craters, and the wave passed over him and he let his own fire rise to meet it, canceling it out in a hiss of steam.
"Damn," he said, still grinning, though his heart was beating faster now. "Morning to you too Fire Queen, wanting to cook me after my heartfelt confession."
Rose didn’t answer, she was already moving again, this time a spiral of fire came, drilling toward his chest, and behind it, shards of flame, like glass, meant to cut him to pieces.
Lynx exhaled, and his fire answered, not a ball or a wave, it was a blade, thin and precise. It cut through the spiral, split the shards, and dissipated them before they touched him.
She narrowed her eyes, because she saw it, his control was cleaner, more refined, and how the hell was it possible, hers was SSS rank, and he was fucking 18.
"Are you gonna keep dodging?" she asked, and another attack came, this time a flame pillar, erupting from the floor under him.
"And are you gonna keep missing?" Lynx replied, he jumped, letting the pillar scorch the ground where he’d been, leaving a black mark on the steel.
The office walls didn’t burn or melt, it was reinforced, but its strong steel walls felt the angry flames too, it was dented, heated, and Lynx could see the anger in her now, not just at him, at herself.
"I don’t even know why you’re attacking," Lynx said, finally standing still, dusting ash off his shoulder that wasn’t there. "Did I do something, or are you just happy to see me?"
Rose stared at him, she couldn’t tell him the truth, couldn’t say, ’I dream about your mouth since the kiss, fucked myself every night to your unfair face, I hate you for making me feel like this, I’m supposed to be mad.’
So she gave him the other truth.
"The Headmistress knows," she said sharply.
"She knows you leave the academy, she’s furious Lynx, she told me to warn you if you sneak out again, she will take measures, and I’m warning you too, take it seriously."
Lynx blinked, the smirk faded a fraction.
"The Headmistress?" he said, drawing the word out. "Is she gonna send the king and queen of this academy to discipline me, how ironic."
That was the wrong thing to say.
Her flame hit him this time, but it wasn’t a ball, it was a thin sharp spear, it was really fast.
It caught him in the shoulder and spun him around, and for half a second he could see where it would’ve gone.
The heat burned his skin, but before it could do damage, his own fire came out and snuffed it out.
He didn’t feel any pain, but he felt the message.
Before the smoke cleared, Lynx moved, and this time he didn’t dodge, he answered her.
His fire came first, two quick lashes, forcing her to step left, then right, she evaded his attacks because she was good, because she expected it, and that was exactly what he wanted.
He dropped to the floor, fire melting under his feet, and he sank into the ground like he was water, like he was flame itself, a lost technique.
One that hadn’t been seen in a hundred years, movement through fire, and in the next breath he reappeared, right behind her.
His arms came around her, chest to her back, his body pressed against her, against the curve of her ass, and he didn’t move away.
Rose froze, completely.
"h-h-how did you do that," she whispered. That technique was forgotten, and he did it so easily.
Lynx didn’t answer with words, he leaned down, pressed a kiss to the side of her neck, right under her ear, felt her shivering, then he turned her just slightly, and caught her mouth.
She should have shoved him, she should have burned him, should have finished the Headmistress message and thrown him out.
She didn’t.
She kissed him back, more harder, more angry, her hands came up to his chest like she was going to push, but they curled into his shirt instead, holding him there.
Her mind was screaming at her to pull away, to burn him, to be the strict professor everyone feared, but her body wasn’t listening, her hands were in his shirt.
Her mouth was answering his like she’d been dying for it for months, and when his tongue entered hers, a sound escaped her that she hated, because it sounded needy.
She’d spent years building walls, being called brutal, being called untouchable, and he was tearing them down with one kiss, with his hands on her waist, with the way he held her not wanting to let her go.
And when he whispered against her lips that he was going to claim her, her knees almost gave out, because the part of her she buried a long time ago, the woman and not the professor, wanted him to.
Lynx’s hands moved slowly, down her back, over her waist, to the flare of her full hip, the gown did nothing to hide her matured sinful body. He felt his hardened cock press hard against the curve of her big ass and stayed there.
She was not as ethereal as Nyx—Nyx was another level completely— but she was not less stunning, all his girls were. In a world full of beautiful women, his women were supposed to be more beautiful. Rose even edged Amira and Isabel slightly, her body was so sinful.
He pulled back just enough, breath hot against her ear.
"I’m back at the academy now," he murmured, voice low. "And I’m going to claim you fully, not long from now, so be ready for me, Rose."
She shivered again, then with the last bit of pride she had, she shoved him back, stumbled to her desk, sat down hard, like her legs wouldn’t hold her, like if she stood she’d go right back to him.
She could feel her soaked pussy leaking and any more she would have pushed him down the table and have him devour her.
Lynx just smiled and took the chair across from her like nothing had happened.
He checked the time, 11:05 PM, they’d lost time in that fight, in that amazing kiss.
"So," he said. "Can I watch the match with you?."
Rose was still breathing too fast, she pressed her fingers to her lips once, then dropped her hand, she wanted to say no.
She nodded instead.
With a wave, a screen descended from the ceiling, already showing the arena, which packed with students, live streamed, two beautiful figures standing on opposite sides, waiting.
Lynx leaned back in the chair. "Aren’t you supposed to be there, officiating... and who do you think will win?"
"No," Rose said, her voice still a little shaky, but she was pulling herself together. "The Year 3 fire affinity teacher is." Then she looked at the screen. "I trained Kira, she’ll win, but Emily will give her a hard time, I’ve watched her, she’s stronger than she looks."
On screen, the old man stood in the center, white hair, white beard and his aura was heavy.
Lynx raised an eyebrow. "He looks strong, how’d you convince him to officiate?"
Rose shrugged, like it was already obvious. "I’m stronger than him."
Lynx laughed under his breath. "You’re cute."
A hot fireball shot toward his face.
He dodged it easily and he was grinning, then the Professor’s voice boomed through the screen.
"Welcome, Kira Lewis and Emily Watson."
Rose looked at the screen, Lynx looked at the screen, and the real fight was about to start.
