With that, he smoothly got back into his car and started the engine, ready to leave.

Damien Vaughn stepped forward and grabbed his arm through the open window.

"Did you drink a lot last night? You still haven’t sobered up. It’s not safe to drive. I’ll have someone take you home."

"I’m perfectly sober! I know what I’m doing and what I’m saying! You don’t think I’m talking nonsense, do you?"

"That’s not what I meant. I’m genuinely worried about your safety."

Fine, then. Brandon Jacobs got out of the driver’s seat and moved to the back.

"I am pretty tired. I’m going to get some sleep."

A driver took him away. Damien Vaughn watched the car’s taillights disappear, no longer in the mood for his run. With a grim expression, he called Elsa.

It was the first time he had ever called her this early, and Elsa’s tone was harsh.

"You disturbed my sleep."

"I’m sorry. But I need to talk to you."

"If this is about your friend, there’s no need. I made myself perfectly clear yesterday. Damien, I can’t believe you’d call me over something like this."

Damien Vaughn understood her meaning and her reservations. He also understood the impact Brandon Jacobs’s actions had on her.

He actually supported Elsa’s approach. ’Perhaps they both shared a core of cold-hearted ruthlessness that others found hard to understand.’

But as a long-time friend, he truly felt for Brandon Jacobs.

"I understand what you mean, which is why we need to talk."

He tried to persuade Elsa, but she was more stubborn than he imagined and hung up on him.

’Then I’m sorry, Brandon. Better to rip the bandage off quickly. You need to accept reality as soon as you can.’

Damien Vaughn became busy again, as always, and three more days quickly passed.

Tonight was the night Damien Vaughn was scheduled to see Elsa, but he hadn’t arranged for a new male model. He needed to talk with her.

After lulling Cecelia Archer to sleep, he got in his car and left.

The moment he reached the gate, he saw Brandon Jacobs already waiting.

Damien Vaughn knew it was useless to say anything more to Brandon Jacobs. ’Let him clear the air with Elsa face-to-face.’

’I just hope bringing him along again on my own won’t make Elsa fly into a rage.’

The two men followed the familiar route to the villa and let themselves in. As usual, Elsa was already waiting.

As expected, she was furious when she saw Brandon Jacobs.

Without a word, she stood up from the sofa and turned to head upstairs, but Brandon Jacobs rushed over and grabbed her hand.

"Elsa!"

Elsa violently shook him off, her tone frigid.

"You’re starting to disgust me. I feel harassed, and I find you more and more unacceptable!"

"No! I came here to tell you I’ll do it your way!"

But Elsa had no intention of listening and still tried to leave. In a panic, Brandon Jacobs wrapped an arm around her waist and hoisted her onto his shoulder.

"What are you doing? Are you insane? Put me down!"

No matter how cold or domineering she was, she was still a woman, with not even a tenth of Brandon Jacobs’s strength.

She kicked and struggled against his shoulder, but it didn’t faze him in the slightest.

Brandon Jacobs carried her straight into the room, locked the door behind him, and tossed her onto the bed. Then he unzipped his pants.

’Heh, decided to act like a man now?’

Elsa didn’t move. She watched him coldly, waiting to see just how much of a "man" he would be. To her surprise, under her watchful gaze, Brandon Jacobs mimicked her previous actions. He put on a pair of gloves and walked over to the machine.

He skillfully collected his own sample, added the reagent, placed it in the machine, and pressed the start button.

Then he turned back, his eyes fixed on Elsa as he peeled off the gloves.

"It can do its thing, and we’ll do ours."

Elsa: "???"

Brandon Jacobs was a man of his word. Without even turning off the lights, he pounced.

They finished earlier than usual. Without a word of nonsense, Brandon Jacobs threw on his clothes and left the room.

He called Damien Vaughn, just as he always did.

"I’ll wait for you in the car."

Soon after, Damien Vaughn came downstairs.

The door to the ground-floor room was open, but Elsa didn’t emerge.

Damien Vaughn had no idea how their story was progressing or what Elsa was thinking now. He was about to leave, but... she was his sister, after all.

He stood at the doorway and knocked.

"If you still feel this isn’t appropriate, I won’t bring him here again."

Elsa, already in her pajamas, sauntered out from in front of the machine with a languid air.

It was the first time Damien Vaughn had seen her smile since she’d arrived in Veridia.

Although the smile was cryptic, even a little mocking, it still brought some color to her usually impassive face.

"He’s actually a little interesting. He should have been like this from the start."

"..."

The car pulled away, and the villa returned to its quiet stillness.

But in the woods nearby, Miller hadn’t left.

For some time now, he had been tailing Damien Vaughn every day after work. While the man’s routine was mostly predictable, a man was still a man. It was in their nature to stray, and Miller had finally caught him slipping up.

’Running off for a late-night rendezvous with a beauty? Heh. The president of the Vaughn Group... no matter how prim and proper he acts in public, he can’t resist the temptations of the flesh!’

Smug and satisfied, he sent a message to Gwen Morgan, only to find he was still blocked. So, he called her instead.

Gwen Morgan had forgotten to block his number. She had just groggily fallen asleep when the call came. Seeing his name on the screen, she answered impatiently, her first words a threat.

"Are you looking for a death wish?"

"Miss Morgan, please don’t be angry. Listen to me. I’ve got dirt on Damien Vaughn, and this time, it’s fatal. I took a ton of photos. Unblock me on WeChat, and I’ll send them to you right away."

"What? Dirt on Damien Vaughn? Fatal? Are you sure?"

"Absolutely certain."

He sounded utterly confident, but Gwen Morgan was skeptical.

"Miller, if you try to fool me with some useless garbage again, proving to me over and over what an idiot you are, I won’t spare you!"

She unblocked him. A moment later, photos began to fill her screen.

Gwen Morgan felt like she was going insane. The hand holding her phone began to tremble as she called Miller back.

"Where were these taken? Are you sure you’re the one who took them? And you’re certain they’re not doctored?"

"Miss Morgan, you still don’t trust me? I’m just a guy trying to make a living. I know what would happen if I tried to fool you. Do you really think I’d dare?"

"Who’s the woman? Why is Brandon Jacobs there too? Is she the only one?"

"So far, I’ve only seen this one woman. I don’t know who the other man is, but I know he came with President Vaughn on both occasions. They stay for about three or four hours before leaving, so they must be discussing something important. If I keep tailing them, I’m sure I’ll dig up something big."

"Alright, you’ve done well. Send me the location. I’m on my way."

"There’s no need, Miss Morgan. I’ve watched the place during the day, and the woman never leaves. She doesn’t even open the curtains. You’d be wasting your time coming now. Based on my observations, President Vaughn visits her every three days, always after 10 p.m. If you trust me, let’s meet here in three nights."

Gwen Morgan had all but given up on Damien Vaughn. But in her mind, he had always been someone who took matters of the heart with the utmost seriousness.

He had never had feelings for her, but it was the firm, righteous way he had rejected her that made Gwen Morgan admire him all the more.

She couldn’t accept that he, too, was just another sanctimonious hypocrite—a philanderer in private.

The photos left Gwen Morgan shocked, confused, and deeply jealous.

’Who on earth was that woman? Who was she that Damien Vaughn would keep her hidden away, visiting her on a set schedule to lavish his attention on her?’

’Why could it be any other woman, but never her?’

She felt like she was truly going to lose her mind.
