’His daughter said she didn’t want him to work so hard and wanted to be with him forever?’

Damien Vaughn felt like he had never heard such heartwarming words before. His eyes shamelessly reddened again.

When Candy saw her dad was about to cry, she started wailing even harder.

The two of them clung to each other, foreheads touching, as if they were being torn apart forever.

"SOB... I really, really like Daddy. I don’t want Daddy to work so hard. Daddy’s gotten so thin, it makes Candy so sad. SOB... It’s all Candy’s fault. Candy won’t ask for random toys anymore..."

As the two of them cried, Cecelia Archer’s own tears started to fall uncontrollably.

’Candy really loves him so much. She longs for a father. Was choosing to divorce him really the right thing to do?’

After Damien Vaughn made endless promises to his daughter that he wouldn’t be away for so long again, Candy finally stopped crying and asked him, her nose red.

"Where are we going to eat?"

"We’ll eat wherever Candy wants to eat."

"I want to go to the mall. There’s a children’s play area inside. When Mommy used to take me to the mall, all the other kids had their daddies playing with them, but I didn’t. Today, I want Daddy to go in with me too."

Damien Vaughn agreed in a heartbeat, and the three of them went to a mid-to-high-end shopping mall.

Lots of children were bouncing around in the play area. Hearing their happy laughter, Candy hurriedly shoveled down a few bites of her food, eager to run off.

Damien Vaughn had no choice but to put down his chopsticks and go with her.

Cecelia Archer sat alone in the restaurant, watching them through the glass. She saw Damien Vaughn push Candy on the swing, go down the slide with her, play in the ball pit, and jump on the trampoline together. Candy’s smile was so joyous, and her eyes were filled with such trust and reliance as she looked at him. Suddenly, Cecelia felt there was no need for her to be so stubborn.

Ever since she had her daughter, her greatest wish was for Candy to be happy.

’Now she’s finally happy, so what am I making a fuss for?’

’Besides, it’s not like I like anyone else, and I have no plans to remarry. There’s really no need to go through with this divorce.’

"Hello, Ryan."

Ryan was quite surprised to get her call. "Is something the matter, Miss Archer?"

"You don’t need to draft the divorce papers anymore. You can get some proper sleep now."

’Miss Archer really understands me!’ Ryan finally let out a long sigh of relief.

After more than two hours of wild fun, Candy was drenched in sweat, her clothes soaked through. The three of them started for home.

Candy had Cecelia Archer drive while she and Damien Vaughn sat in the back.

They say a daughter is her father’s sweetheart from a past life. It seemed there was some truth to that.

With her daddy around, her mommy was old news.

Candy sat on his lap, her arms wrapped around his neck and her head resting on his shoulder, and she quickly drifted off to sleep.

After they got out of the car, he carried the child back to her room. Damien Vaughn dampened a warm towel and gently wiped her face, hands, and feet. When he turned around, he saw Cecelia Archer watching him intently. He looked away, a little guiltily.

"It’s getting late, and you’re tired. You should get some rest. I’ll sleep in Grandpa’s room."

Cecelia Archer grabbed his hand.

"Come here for a moment. Let’s talk."

’Cecelia is still willing to hold my hand?’

Damien Vaughn felt a surge of excitement, followed by a wave of sorrow.

’I’ve been so tired lately. My head hurts, and there’s this tightness in my chest. I wish Cecelia would just hug me.’

’But alas, that’s just a pipe dream now.’

The two returned to their bedroom. Cecelia, acting like the master of the house, sat down on the sofa first and then gestured for him to sit as well.

To get a better look at her expression, Damien Vaughn sat on the coffee table opposite her.

Cecelia Archer met his gaze. "If you’re sure you won’t remarry, then I think we shouldn’t get a divorce for the time being."

"What?"

"Candy is too young, and she relies on you too much... You were right. We can’t let her become another Elsa. Let’s wait until she’s grown up and can understand, then we can talk about it again."

’So she’s also decided she won’t remarry after leaving me? For Candy’s sake, she’s willing to give up everything?’

The ache in Damien Vaughn’s heart intensified.

"Okay, we’ll do as you say. I’m sorry. It’s all my fault that things have ended up this way."

"There’s no need for more apologies. Don’t you still have to go see your mother? You don’t have to hide it anymore. Just go."

The next morning, when Cecelia Archer woke up, Candy and Damien Vaughn were already dressed and downstairs.

Annie had been doing much better recently, so the two children had decided to go to kindergarten. Damien Vaughn was getting ready to take Candy to the Grant Family’s home.

Seeing that Damien Vaughn was back, Cecelia Archer figured she didn’t need to go to the office. Since she was just going through the motions anyway, she leisurely sat down at the dining table.

’After all, I don’t have to work today.’

But unexpectedly, Damien Vaughn came over and said to her, "Take the day off. Don’t go to the office. You’re coming somewhere with me in a bit."

Candy quickly ran over. "Daddy, where are you taking Mommy?"

Damien Vaughn picked her up, feigning an air of mystery.

"That’s a secret between the two of us. I can’t tell you."

Candy covered her mouth and giggled. "I know! You haven’t seen each other in so long, you must be going on a date. Okay, okay, I won’t disturb you. I hope you two have fun!"

The two of them sent Candy off together. Watching him drive the car further and further off the main roads, Cecelia Archer grew confused.

"Where are you taking me?"

"You’ll know when we get there."

The car headed toward the suburbs, twisting and turning down various roads until it entered a village.

In the village were two rows of low-slung houses that looked dirty and had clearly been vacant for a long time.

There were no other households around. It was so quiet that the chirping of insects and birds could be heard with perfect clarity.

Cecelia Archer became even more bewildered. Just as she was about to ask him again why he had brought her here, Ryan suddenly pushed open a door and walked out of one of the houses.

"President Vaughn, you’re here."

"Yes. Thanks for your hard work. You can go home and rest once this is over."

Ryan was touched by his thoughtfulness. "You didn’t sleep at all last night either. If you’re not tired, how could I be?"

’What? He didn’t sleep at all last night, again?’

Cecelia Archer realized his secrets were piling up, so many that she couldn’t keep track.

’Fortunately, they were now just husband and wife in name only. Whatever he was up to had nothing to do with her anymore.’

Ryan led the way, pushing the door open with a CREAK.

Damien Vaughn let Cecelia Archer go first, following her inside. Ryan then closed the door behind them.

The moment Cecelia Archer stepped inside, she was stunned by the scene before her.

Inside the room, two rows of bodyguards in black suits stood ramrod straight. It was the old master’s former security team.

Before them, on the dust-covered concrete floor, knelt three people—a mix of men and women.

All three were blindfolded with black cloth, their hands tied behind their backs, and gags stuffed in their mouths.

’This...’

Cecelia Archer couldn’t recognize the people on the floor, nor could she understand why Damien Vaughn would do such a thing. She was instantly furious.

"This is what you brought me to see? Damien Vaughn, I never thought you were secretly... You’re a father now! Have you ever considered how the consequences of your reckless actions could negatively affect Candy?"

Damien Vaughn’s expression remained unchanged. "Of course I have. Which is why I don’t act recklessly."

"Then what is this—"

Before she could finish asking what he was doing, one of the people kneeling on the floor suddenly made a sound in a voice Cecelia Archer recognized.

"Cecelia? Cecelia! Is that you? I know it’s you, I recognize your voice! It’s me, Claire Clark! Cecelia, please, save me! I was wrong, I was really wrong! Ask Damien to let us go!"

’Claire Clark?’

A buzzing sound filled Cecelia Archer’s head, which suddenly felt like it was about to explode.
