My Class is Null, But I Always Get the Best Outcome

The simulation resumed exactly where the restoration point had placed them, Mythal intact, the first two calamities already marked survived. The ground began glowing orange again.

Kai looked up immediately. Above the city, dozens of elevated relay structures floated between buildings, the new addition standing where the underground network used to carry everything alone.

Lily checked her readout. "Primary network is active."

"Underground network is now secondary," Elden confirmed.

"Emergency systems are independent," Mira added.

Gabriel looked at the floating structures. "The Nexus design is working."

Raze cracked his knuckles. "So we’re ready."

"Don’t say that," Sera warned.

"...Right."

Kai laughed. "Let’s survive first."

The first eruption tore through the southern district.

BOOM!

The street split apart, buildings shaking, fire pouring upward. The floating relay network didn’t move at all.

"Primary network unaffected," Lily reported.

"Exactly as planned," Elden said.

A second eruption tore through the eastern district, and one of the floating relays shifted position on its own, golden energy trailing behind it.

Lily’s eyes widened. "They’re moving."

"Mobile relay," Elden said.

The relay settled above the damaged district, a barrier forming just in time to catch the next eruption.

BOOM!

Kai smiled. "Much better."

Burning Earth kept attacking, roads melting, buildings collapsing, the ground becoming impossible to walk across in places. But the critical systems held steady, terrain relics building temporary platforms, floating relays sustaining barriers, healing relics closing wounds fast, emergency teleportation pulling hunters clear before anything could kill them.

Nobody tried to save every building this time. A tower collapsed near Kai, and he didn’t react at all.

Sera noticed. "You’re not going to save it?"

"Not if saving it risks the network."

A massive eruption tore open directly ahead of him. He Air Stepped away, another erupting behind him a heartbeat later. He jumped onto a floating platform, and a third eruption cut off the escape route entirely. A barrier snapped into place before it reached him, the relay having already repositioned overhead.

"You’re beginning to understand," Tiamat said.

"Understand what?"

"The city does not need to remain unchanged to survive."

Kai looked at the burning streets, then at the floating network holding steady above them. "Yeah."

The disaster reached its peak, the ground turning orange from edge to edge, cracks running through nearly every district, the old underground network finally failing under the strain.

Nobody panicked this time.

"Secondary network is collapsing," Elden reported.

"Disconnect it," Mira said.

Lily looked at him. "You’re abandoning the entire underground system?"

"That’s what we designed it for."

The underground network shut down, and the floating system took over instantly, golden light spreading across the city without interruption.

Raze grinned. "That’s beautiful."

The earth finally stopped moving, the orange glow fading out, smoke drifting up from the ruined streets. Mythal was damaged, but the defense network still ran clean.

[Burning Earth — Survived.]

Raze thrust a fist skyward. "THREE!"

"Now you can celebrate," Lily said.

"Finally."

"Keep moving," Kai said, and everyone caught the reason immediately. The simulation wasn’t over.

The heat vanished all at once, snow beginning to fall. One flake touched the street, and the entire patch froze solid. Another landed, and a nearby building sheeted over in ice.

Mira checked the readings. "That’s not natural."

"It’s removing heat from everything," Elden said.

"White Frost," Lily confirmed.

Water froze instantly wherever it stood. Metal turned brittle. Even a few of the floating relays started accumulating ice on their surfaces.

Kai gave the order. "Activate the heating network."

Fire and heat relics lit up across the city, warm zones opening, hunters retreating into them. For a moment it worked, then the frost strengthened, the safe zones shrinking fast.

"We’re losing the western district," Lily warned.

"Move everyone east," Mira said.

"No," Kai said. Everyone looked over. "We’re not giving up the district yet." He pointed at the heating network. "We can push the cold back."

The hunters pushed into the frozen district itself. Mira smashed through massive ice formations, one swing at a time. Raze broke apart frozen structures blocking the retreat routes. Sera shielded hunters from the freezing wind. Lily redirected heat relics toward the worst-hit blocks while Elden kept the network balanced.

Kai raised a hand, water gathering around him on instinct.

"Don’t," Tiamat said sharply.

He stopped. "...Right."

The water he’d already pulled froze solid in an instant.

He looked at it. "Good point."

"You are learning."

"Eventually."

The temperature dropped again, sharper this time, the whole city beginning to freeze despite everything.

"Heating output isn’t enough," Elden said.

"Then combine everything," Lily said.

Mira looked at her. "Everything?"

"Every available heat source." She started redirecting unused mana on the fly, heating relics, fire relics, energy reserves, even excess mana from the defensive systems, all of it converted into raw heat at once.

Golden light spread through the frozen streets, and the ice began cracking.

CRACK.

Then another.

CRACK.

The frozen ground broke apart, and the Frost finally stopped.

[White Frost — Survived.]

The city barely had a moment to recover before the sky darkened, a black cloud stretching from one horizon to the other.

Raze looked up. "...That’s not a cloud."

Millions of tiny creatures began descending.

"Black Swarm," Lily said.

The swarm covered the sky, then the buildings, then the streets themselves. Artillery relics opened fire.

BOOM!

Thousands vanished in a single volley. Millions remained. Raze swung, Sera blocked, Mira smashed through clusters, Lily fired continuously, Elden held the barriers steady, and still the swarm kept coming.

"We can’t kill them all," Kai said.

"Then what do we do?" Lily asked.

He looked at the city. "We decide where they go."

The terrain network activated, roads closing, walls rising, buildings folding into barriers, the swarm gradually funneled into specific corridors.

Raze glanced around. "We’re herding them."

"Exactly," Kai said.

The swarm entered the designated kill zone, and Lily looked at Elden. He nodded.

She raised her hand. "Now."

Every artillery relic fired at once.

BOOOOOOOOOOM!

The whole district lit up, the swarm disappearing in massive waves. The survivors scattered, and instead of chasing them, the city closed more routes, forcing them back into the kill zone for another barrage. Then another.

Eventually nothing remained.

[Black Swarm — Survived.]

Everyone started to relax, and then Elden looked down sharply. "...Wait."

The remaining creatures weren’t overhead anymore.

They were underground.

Lily’s eyes widened. "They’re using the old network."

Kai smiled. "Then let them."

The underground network had already been disconnected, and the creatures found themselves trapped in abandoned passages with nowhere to go. The city sealed every entrance and fired artillery straight down through the tunnels.

Mira smiled. "The weakness became a trap."

"Exactly," Elden said.

The simulation went completely silent. No snow. No swarm. No fire. Nothing at all.

Kai looked up. "What’s next?"

Lily didn’t have an answer.

CRACK.

The sky itself split open. Everyone looked up as a massive section of the heavens began descending.

Raze’s grin vanished. "...The sky is falling."

A massive fragment fell first.

"MOVE!" Kai shouted.

Everyone scattered, and it crashed into the outskirts.

BOOOOOOM!

The shockwave tore through Mythal, buildings collapsing, barriers snapping alive, the floating relays shaking violently under the impact.

"That was only one!" Mira called.

Hundreds more fragments were already falling.

The entire network activated at once, gravity relics slowing the largest pieces, artillery destroying the smaller ones outright, barriers shielding priority districts, terrain systems building protective structures, emergency teleportation clearing hunters from impact zones, the floating relays repositioning constantly to track the worst threats.

"Everything is active," Elden reported.

"Can it handle this?" Lily asked.

"Not forever."

"Then we don’t fight forever," Kai said.

He studied the falling debris. Some pieces were small, some massive. One dwarfed everything else, easily large enough to erase half the city.

He pointed. "That one."

"Ignore the smaller ones?" Lily asked.

"Redirect them."

"And focus everything on the largest," Mira said.

"That’s how Nexus handled falling debris," Gabriel confirmed.

"Then let’s use it," Kai said.

The whole city lit up at once, gravity suppression activating, barriers overlapping, artillery charging, the floating relays moving into formation.

"We have one shot," Elden said.

"Then make it count," Lily said.

Kai raised his sword. "Now!"

Everything fired.

BOOOOOOOOOOM!

The enormous fragment shattered, its remaining pieces redirected, some burning up entirely, others scattering harmlessly outside the city limits.

One final piece remained, still enormous, and the network sat exhausted.

"We don’t have enough energy," Elden said.

Kai looked at the fragment, then at his own hands.

"You could move it," Tiamat said.

"With Storm Authority?"

"With Storm Authority and Distortion."

He smiled. "Let’s try."

He activated Storm Authority, wind wrapping tight around the falling fragment, lightning cracking through the clouds. Then Distortion pulled the wind just slightly off its expected path, and the fragment shifted, narrowly missing the city entirely.

BOOOOOOM!

It crashed far outside Mythal instead.

Silence. The simulation froze in place. Everyone stood exhausted, the city badly damaged but still standing.

Raze looked around. "...Did we just pass all six?"

"In this simulation," Elden said carefully.

"Not the real thing," Lily added.

"How close were we?" Kai asked, looking toward where the Candidate would appear.

He materialized a moment later, studying the simulated city. "Better."

"That’s it?" Raze asked.

The Candidate smiled faintly. "You survived all six."

Everyone’s expression brightened.

"But you also lost three districts."

Silence. Lily looked back toward the destroyed sections.

"Your energy reserves dropped below twenty percent," he continued.

Elden’s expression tightened. "So the network wouldn’t survive a second cycle."

"Correct." A pause. "Your evacuation protocols worked. Your defensive formation worked. Your response time improved." He looked around at all of them. "But your margin for error is still too small."

"So what happens now?" Kai asked.

"You improve."

Raze blinked. "...That’s it?"

"What else would you do?" The Candidate gestured toward the simulated city. "You now know what your current strength can accomplish." He looked at Kai directly. "You also know where it fails."

"Continue clearing dungeons," he said.

"Why?" Kai asked.

"Because every level you gain changes the equation." He looked toward Elden and Lily. "Every new relic you develop changes the equation." Then Gabriel. "Every technique recovered from previous civilizations changes the equation." Finally, the whole group. "And every simulation teaches you something the previous civilizations did not know."

Raze pointed at the simulated city. "So we’re doing it again?"

"Eventually."

"Eventually?"

"First, become stronger."

Kai smiled. "Then we run the simulation again."

"And again," the Candidate said.

Lily’s eyes brightened. "Until we can clear it with a much larger margin."

"And eliminate the weak points," Elden added.

"Sounds like work," Mira said.

"It is," Sera confirmed.

Raze grinned. "Good."

Before sending them back, the Candidate offered a genuine smile. "You should be proud." Everyone quieted. "Your first attempt failed. Your second attempt was incomplete. And now you’ve successfully completed all six." A pause. "That is progress."

"Keep growing. Keep experimenting. And when you believe you’re ready—" his eyes settled on Kai, "—come back."

"We will."

The blue world dissolved, and everyone reappeared in the research building. Nobody spoke for a few seconds.

Raze looked around. "Dungeon?"

Kai laughed. "Dungeon."

Lily sighed. "Then back to planning."

"And improving the network," Elden said.

"And training," Mira added.

"And sleeping," Sera said.

Everyone looked at her.

She crossed her arms. "Some of us actually need sleep."

Raze laughed.

Kai looked out toward the damaged but rebuilding city beyond the window. They hadn’t survived the Second Disaster yet. They hadn’t even faced the real one.

But now they knew exactly what they were preparing for.

And they had twenty-five days.

His eyes sharpened. "Let’s get stronger."
