Chapter 177

"Things aren’t looking good.."

His gaze turned toward Haoran, who stood there quietly with an expressionless face, his white hair fluttering gently in the air while his eyes glowed with a pure, blinding white light and the strange white markings covering his obsidian body continued to swirl and move across his skin like living things.

And the pressure surrounding him... it was even more terrifying now.

Liyu’s eyes narrowed as he asked the System, Can you tell me what is going on with him?

The System remained silent for a while, a brief silence alone that made Liyu’s expression become more serious since usually the System would respond almost immediately, meaning whatever it was analyzing was clearly beyond anything ordinary.

Eventually, the familiar mechanical voice sounded within his mind:

[Based on my analysis, his body, every inch of it, is fully saturated with Qi.]

Liyu’s eyes narrowed further. Qi?

The System continued, [And not normal refined human Qi either.] There was another brief pause. [The quality of the Qi within his body is far higher.]

Liyu’s expression became solemn, noting that the System had never sounded uncertain before, but even now, it seemed to be carefully analyzing what it was seeing.

Then it continued:

[Host, it looks almost as if he has become one with the World Qi.]

Liyu’s pupils contracted. One with the World Qi?

The System’s next words made his heart sink even further: [His Qi is exactly the same as the World Qi.]

Liyu fell silent, for a moment simply staring at Haoran as he tried to come to terms with what the System was saying. One with the World Qi? How was that possible?

World Qi was the fundamental energy that permeated the world itself, existing everywhere, surrounding all living beings, filling the environment, and existing within the very fabric of the world.

Cultivators could absorb it, refine it, and transform it, but becoming one with it? That was something Liyu had never even heard of.

One with the World Qi... His eyes remained fixed on Haoran as the answer to the strange phenomenon suddenly seemed obvious: the reason the World Qi had been violently gathering around Haoran earlier, the reason his aura had suddenly become so overwhelming, and the reason his Qi seemed endless were all connected.

Liyu immediately asked another question: Is that why he’s so strong and fast?

[Affirmative, Host.] The System’s response was immediate this time.

[The World Qi seems to be filling his entire being with destructive capabilities.]

Liyu’s expression became even more serious, but then the System added something that made his heart sink: [And if my analysis isn’t wrong... the transformation is not completed yet.]

Liyu’s eyes widened slightly. Not completed? He stared at Haoran, thinking the guy was already this terrifying and this wasn’t even the complete transformation?

The System continued: [When the transformation is complete, Host... he would probably be able to easily crush you.]

Liyu’s face slowly became grim, feeling for the first time in this battle something far heavier than pain.... the pressure of an approaching defeat.

Then his eyes twitched, not because of how factual and certain the System sounded when it said that, but instead because he was also certain that the System was right, since after all... he felt the same way.

Liyu’s eyes slowly moved toward his shaking hand, and he couldn’t help but forcefully clench it, his fingers tightening until his claws dug slightly into his palm as he thought, How long has it been since I last sensed this feeling...? This feeling of danger.

When was the last time he had felt something like this? Well... that was a little over a month ago, when he had tempted death itself in the Beast Forest, which, in truth, wasn’t that far ago at all.

But that wasn’t the point here, as the point was the fact that he was scared... not just a little, but genuinely scared with a deep, primal fear that wasn’t coming from his mind, but from every instinct within his body.

It was as if he were standing in the very center of danger itself, surrounded by something so threatening that even his instincts were screaming at him to run, with every hair on Liyu’s body seeming to stand on end and every cell within him screaming the same message: Forfeit. Give up now while you still can.

If you don’t... something terrible will happen. That was perhaps the only reasonable thing he could do... he could simply admit defeat, since there was nothing shameful about it and anyone with a functioning survival instinct would understand that.

And yet... Liyu didn’t want to quit, feeling if anything thrilled as his blood pumped faster and his heart beat harder, the fear he felt not suppressing his excitement, but fueling it.

He was about to fight someone who stood above him, someone who had pushed himself into a realm of power that even he couldn’t fully understand, and that realization made his blood boil with excitement. He’s not done with the transformation yet, right?

[Affirmative, Host.]

Liyu’s gaze sharpened, knowing that if he allowed Haoran to complete the transformation, then he could really be in more than just danger, but could be facing a battle that he had absolutely no chance of winning.

But he wasn’t going to allow that, not at all, having already come this far with no way he was going to simply stand around and watch his opponent become even stronger.

Liyu’s body lowered, his back arched slightly, his legs bent, and his entire body took the posture of a predator preparing to launch itself at its prey. Then... WHOOSH! He disappeared.

In the next instant, Liyu appeared right before Haoran, his claws flashing toward Haoran’s neck with terrifying speed, thinking that if his chest couldn’t be pierced... then at least his neck could be.

His claws were sharp enough to tear through flesh and bone, having already torn apart opponents far stronger than ordinary cultivators, leading him to think there was no way a neck could be as tough as the chest, right?

Yet the result made Liyu’s eyes twitch:

CLANG!

A small metallic sound echoed, and then... nothing. Liyu’s claws didn’t move even a single inch into Haoran’s skin, as if his deadly claws were nothing more than cotton brushing against the man’s obsidian skin.

Liyu’s pupils contracted.

What... He couldn’t even process it, as his claws had failed completely without even a scratch or a mark, as though Haoran’s defense had undergone another terrifying increase.

But before Liyu could come to terms with just how terrifying Haoran’s defense had become, his gaze suddenly widened as he sensed movement, realizing Haoran had moved.

Shit!

Liyu wanted to react, but everything happened too fast... far too fast, as if Liyu had suddenly been frozen in time while Haoran was moving through a completely different flow of time. A sharp pain suddenly exploded in Liyu’s upper chest:

BOOM!

It felt as though he had been rammed head-on by a terrifying trailer traveling at full speed, his chest seeming to cave in slightly before blood immediately spluttered from his mouth in a large torrent.

"Gah!" Liyu’s body folded in half as the force of the attack prepared to send him flying, yet he had barely moved a few inches backward when a hand firmly grabbed his head.

Liyu’s eyes widened. Haoran’s expression remained completely unchanged, his face still as expressionless as ever, and his glowing white eyes stared calmly at Liyu as he held his head firmly, forcing their gazes to meet at eye level for a brief moment before Haoran moved. Without giving Liyu even a second chance to speak or do anything...

BOOOOOOM!

He smashed Liyu’s head into the white marble stage with full force, the impact terrifying and the force driving Liyu’s head deep into the stage, cracking and shattering the white marble beneath him while a thunderous bang echoed throughout the entire arena.

Dust exploded outward, cracks spread rapidly across the stage like a spiderweb, and the entire arena sucked in a cold breath as every single person stared at the scene before them.

The battle had completely turned against Liyu in an instant with no gradual shift this time, no back-and-forth, and no opportunity for Liyu to regain the advantage, as Haoran had simply overwhelmed him.

If anything... Liyu’s situation seemed completely terrible, being far from being in a good state, especially after that brutal attack from Guan Haoran, leaving the crowd to stare in shock and wonder if this was really the same Liyu who had been dominating Haoran moments ago, or how the balance of the battle could change so violently.

And meanwhile... it wasn’t only Liyu whose situation wasn’t looking good, as there were his clones as well, whose situation had gone from bad to worse and was now only a step away from becoming completely disastrous.

**Beast Forest**

A crimson spike slammed toward King Rayden’s guard, and despite being deflected, the spike seemed to possess a mind of its own, twisting and curving through the air like a venomous serpent before suddenly lunging forward again and burrowing deep into King Rayden’s shoulder:

PSSHHK!

A pained whimper escaped King Rayden’s mouth as the crimson spike pierced his flesh, a hot wave of searing pain immediately spreading through his entire body while his muscles tensed and his jaw clenched, though he didn’t show any weakness.

With one hand, King Rayden grabbed the crimson spike and forcefully pulled it out of his body, blood flowing from the wound while his expression remained cold and his gaze remained just as calm as ever as he looked toward the massive four-spiked gorilla standing across from him.

The beast was enormous, its four massive spikes protruding from its body to give it an even more intimidating appearance, and its eyes were filled with coldness and malicious intent.

"Tell me where the Primal Tyrant is, and I will let you die fast." The beast’s voice was dripping with venom. "Failure to do that..." Its lips curled into a sinister grin. "I will kill you slowly, over and over again, until you are completely unable to walk anymore."

Its voice became colder. "I will make you regret every decision you have ever made." Another step. The malicious grin on its face widened.

"And you will beg for death. But I wouldn’t deliver it. And when you are finally at your lowest... I will cut off your limbs one after another, letting the agonizing pain consume your mind." The beast paused for a dramatic effect . "That is when I would finally let you die."

The threat hung heavily in the air, its words not empty, and the venom in its tone alongside the murderous intent radiating from its body made it clear that it genuinely intended to carry out every single word.

Yet King Rayden didn’t seem threatened, not even slightly, as he simply looked at the massive four-spiked beast with a calm amused gaze before, after a brief silence, asking a simple question with his expression remaining completely calm:

"Wait... Is that a threat?"
