Chapter 178

If it were anyone else who was wounded and standing before a tall, fierce-looking beast that seemed hell-bent on torturing them before finally ending their life... especially when the torture method being promised was particularly brutal... they would have been scared shitless and unable to think or react properly.

But King Rayden didn’t show any fear on his face; if anything, the expression on his face was one of amusement rather than fear as he looked at the fearsome beast standing before him with a small smile before asking a simple question:

"Wait... is that supposed to be a threat?"

He asked as if he were genuinely wondering whether the beast had actually been threatening him. The four-spiked gorilla’s crimson eyes twitched in pure disbelief. That arrogant green-haired human... he was still not showing any sign of being scared or threatened, even despite the fact that the beast was certain that his situation was extremely dire.

How could this human still remain so calm? The realization made the beast’s blood pump violently, and it wanted nothing more than to attack immediately and smash that green-haired bastard’s skull apart. But it wasn’t going to do that... not yet.

It didn’t want to kill him yet. It was going to make him experience a slow and painful death; it wanted to drain every last scream from his lips before finally ending his life.

The thought alone made the crimson flames surrounding its body burn even more fiercely, and its massive body twitched as it prepared to launch itself back into battle.

King Rayden saw this, his smile straining slightly. "Hey, we can still settle this, you know."

His tone was surprisingly sincere. "A lot have already died on both of our teams. I would suggest it’s high time we called a truce on this." King Rayden said this with an honest expression on his face.

The beast’s eye twitched. "Lost people on both sides?" Its voice was filled with disbelief. Can he be any more shameless? The four-spiked gorilla looked around.

Everywhere it looked, there were corpses... but they were the corpses of beasts, not humans.

There wasn’t a single human corpse anywhere nearby, not one. In fact, the two other humans who were King Rayden’s companions were still wreaking havoc and carnage amidst the enormous beast horde surrounding them.

They were getting hurt, that much was true, but the damage they were dealing was far greater than the damage being dealt to them. And that wasn’t even all of it; more than fifty percent of the beast army that had arrived with the four-spiked gorilla had already been killed... more than half.

The forest floor was littered with the corpses of beasts, their blood staining the earth while the remaining creatures continued to roar and charge into battle. And yet... none of the three humans had fallen. Wounded? Yes.

Exhausted? Certainly. But dead? No. Not a single one of them was dead. And this green-haired bastard was actually standing there talking about a truce.

The four-spiked gorilla’s crimson eye burned even brighter. "No." Its voice was cold, and the crimson flames around its body suddenly rumbled and surged into violent waves. There would be no truce... absolutely not.

King Rayden looked at the beast, noting that the creature seemed even more annoyed now, and judging from the murderous aura radiating from its body, there was a very real possibility that it might simply go for the kill instead of torturing him as it had originally planned.

King Rayden couldn’t help but wince slightly. "There really is no reasoning with a beast, is there?" He shook his head. There was no point in talking anymore; if words couldn’t solve the situation, then perhaps his blade could.

King Rayden raised his wounded arm. Green lightning immediately surged across his body, gathering around his shoulder and searing the wound where the crimson spike had pierced through his flesh, causing the bleeding to quickly stop as the intense heat from the lightning cauterized the wound.

King Rayden’s green eyes glowed brightly, and at the same time, his green lightning began to condense... twisting, compressing, and finally forming into weapons. A lightning scythe appeared in one hand, while a short lightning dagger formed in the other.

The combination looked very strange: a scythe and a dagger, two completely different weapons each suited for a different style of combat. Yet if there was anyone capable of using such a strange combination of weapons to deliver a staggering effect... it would be none other than King Rayden.

His understanding of blades was far deeper than what his appearance suggested, having studied blades in general for years and understanding their strengths, weaknesses, angles, reach, weight distribution, and the countless ways they could be used to kill.

He didn’t need conventional weapons, because as long as something could become a blade in his hands, he could turn it into a deadly weapon... and right now, his weapons just happened to be made from green lightning.

The four-spiked beast lowered its body, and King Rayden did the same. For a brief moment, the two stared at each other. Then... BOOM!

The beast launched itself from the tree branch, and at almost the exact same moment, King Rayden launched forward as well, one surrounded by raging crimson flames and the other wrapped in brilliant green lightning, colliding in the middle of the forest.

BOOOOOOM!

Streaks of green lightning and raging crimson inferno clashed once more, and the sound of heavy combat immediately filled the forest.

CLANG! BOOM! CRASH!

The lightning scythe collided with the beast’s massive claws, sparks and crimson flames exploding from the point of impact, while King Rayden’s dagger flashed toward the beast’s vital points, forcing the four-spiked gorilla to twist its enormous body to avoid the strike.

The beast retaliated with a violent swing, but King Rayden narrowly dodged, and the attack slammed into the tree behind him, causing the massive trunk to explode apart.

The battle continued at a terrifying pace with neither side willing to give an inch, their figures flashing through the forest, appearing and disappearing between trees as green lightning and crimson flames illuminated the surroundings.

And the unfortunate beasts caught in the middle of their battle had no chance whatsoever, completely crushed and obliterated by the aftermath of their attacks... some torn apart by stray blades of lightning, others burned to ashes by the raging crimson inferno.

The forest itself seemed to tremble beneath the sheer intensity of the battle, and neither King Rayden nor the four-spiked gorilla showed any intention of stopping.

As King Rayden once again held his own against the four-spiked gorilla... someone he really had no business facing by all accounts, not to talk of actually winning against... it seemed for a while that the situation wouldn’t get any worse, and in fact, for a brief moment, it seemed as though the two would remain locked in a stalemate with neither able to gain a decisive advantage over the other.

King Rayden’s green lightning continuously clashed against the beast’s raging crimson flames while the two moved through the forest at terrifying speeds in a battle that shouldn’t have been possible in the first place, since a human at King Rayden’s current level was supposed to have absolutely no chance against such a terrifying beast.

Yet he was still fighting, still standing, and somehow still managing to hold his own.

That stalemate, however, shattered a few minutes later.

BOOOOM!

King Rayden was sent crashing through the air like a ragdoll, his body smashed heavily into the side of a massive tree.

CRACK!

The enormous tree shook violently from the impact, its leaves raining down as the trunk trembled. Blood oozed from the corner of King Rayden’s mouth, and he keeled over slightly to cough out a mouthful of blood.

"Cough!"

He wiped his lips with the back of his hand, his green eyes remaining sharp. Then... WHOOSH! He vanished. Almost at the exact same moment, a fiery crimson spike shot toward the place where his head had been moments ago.

BOOM!

The spike pierced straight through the massive tree and continued flying outward, carrying enough force to punch through the thick trunk as though it were nothing more than paper.

King Rayden glanced at the hole left behind by the spike before wiping the remaining blood from his lips, his gaze then turning toward the four-spiked gorilla, which stood atop a sturdy tree branch with its massive body towering over the surrounding forest and its crimson gaze remaining as furious as ever.

If anything, King Rayden was beginning to wonder if fury was simply the only expression the beast knew how to make. "Annoying bastard," King Rayden muttered.

Before he could do anything else, two figures appeared beside him: Lazy Rayden and Dead Eye Rayden. Both were panting, as it seemed none of them had it easy; all three of them had been fighting continuously for hours, and all three had paid a price for it.

Dead Eye Rayden had it the worst, and although his condition seemed slightly better than King Rayden’s... whose body was now mostly covered in wounds...

Dead Eye Rayden’s condition wasn’t far from that either. His clothes were torn, blood stained parts of his body, and several wounds could be seen across him. And there was a reason for that, because among the three reflections, Dead Eye Rayden could be considered the weakest when it came to close-range combat.

That wasn’t because he was weak overall... far from it. His specialty was long-range combat to begin with, and his strength lay in controlling the battlefield from a distance, attacking his enemies before they could even get close enough to threaten him.

If he had been able to maintain that distance during the previous battle, he would perhaps have had a much easier time, but that wasn’t possible because there were simply too many beasts... way too many.

The sheer number of enemies had completely overwhelmed the advantage his fighting style provided, and the beast horde had surrounded him from every direction, forcing him into close-range combat with wave after wave of enemies. He had managed to kill many of them, but in the process, he had also been heavily wounded.

Then there was the third reflection. Out of all three of them, he looked to be in the best shape, with only slight marks here and there across his body, and for the most part, he looked almost completely unhurt.

If anything, he looked as though he had merely gone through a particularly difficult spar, and many might actually think that was the case if they didn’t look closely... because the slight, laborious breathing coming from him told a completely different story.

The guy was tired as well, for who wouldn’t be after fighting hundreds of beasts over and over again? Even someone with an absurd amount of stamina would eventually begin to feel the strain after hours of continuous combat.

Yet there was no look of dread or fear in his gaze, nor even an obvious expression of exhaustion; if anything, he looked as though he had merely become tired from a long day of work and wanted nothing more than to go home and have a good rest. That... and nothing else.

King Rayden glanced at his two reflections before looking around at their surroundings. Things aren’t looking good. He carefully assessed their current situation, realizing perhaps the best thing for them now was to turn tail and flee, because no matter how he looked at the situation, they were in a completely paralyzed position.

They were surrounded on every side. Hundreds of beasts filled the forest... no, thousands. They had already managed to kill off a large chunk of them, but that still didn’t seem particularly meaningful, because the number of beasts remaining was still in the thousands.

It was like trying to empty an ocean with a bucket; no matter how many they killed, there were still more.

And the most depressing part was that the beasts remaining weren’t the weaker ones, but rather the truly troublesome ones: the strongest among the horde, the Arc Three, the beasts at the Qi Refining level. Each one of them possessed strength that couldn’t be underestimated.

Dealing with one or two wouldn’t necessarily be a problem, but hundreds? Thousands? That was an entirely different matter, and they would surely be more than a headache to deal with.

And that wasn’t even what made their situation all the more dire, for they were wounded, they were tired, and in Lazy Rayden’s case... he was sleepy, extremely sleepy. Above all, perhaps the number one problem they were facing now was their dwindling Qi reserves.

They had been fighting endlessly for several hours, and their enormous Qi reserves, which had initially seemed almost inexhaustible, were now approaching their limits.

Their techniques had consumed massive amounts of Qi, their bodies had been pushed to their limits, and they had been forced to fight continuously without a proper opportunity to recover.

Now, even their greatest advantage was beginning to disappear as their Qi reserves were running dangerously low and they were barely hanging on.

King Rayden’s gaze swept across the thousands of beasts surrounding them, then looked toward the four-spiked gorilla standing above them, his expression slowly becoming serious.

The situation was increasingly unfavorable; if they continued fighting like this... eventually, they would run out of Qi, and once that happened, they wouldn’t have the strength to continue fighting, leaving the beast horde to swallow them whole.

King Rayden’s emerald eyes dimmed for a brief moment, then ignited with fierce green lightning. When he spoke, his tone was calm and confident, without a single trace of the fear or uncertainty that he felt deep within, sounding like a true war general standing before an overwhelming army:

"We are in danger, aren’t we?" He said it almost casually, then paused as his gaze swept across the overwhelming force surrounding them... thousands of beasts, enemies on every side, their bodies wounded, their Qi reserves running dangerously low, and having already been fighting for several hours.

The situation was undeniably terrible. King Rayden’s expression, however, remained calm. "Well, perhaps that is true." He slowly raised his head. " If the world thinks that it can simply write us off..." His emerald eyes gleamed with sharpness. "Then let us prove that it is greatly mistaken."

The green lightning around his body suddenly intensified. "We shall not yield." His voice became firmer. "We shall not break." The lightning crackled louder. "We shall not buckle."

A powerful aura erupted from his body. This time, two scythes formed in his hands instead of just one, their curved blades entirely made of condensed green lightning and humming with destructive power as countless arcs of electricity danced across their edges.

King Rayden’s eyes blazed. "We shall fight our way out." His grip tightened around the lightning scythes. "And if we must..." His body leaned forward. "We shall crush everything that stands in our path!"

BOOM!

Lightning exploded beneath his feet, and King Rayden pounced, his figure turning into a streak of green lightning as he shot directly into the beast horde with renewed vigor. The beasts barely had time to react before the green streak tore through them.

SLASH! BOOM!

Blood splattered, bodies were sent flying, and the two lightning scythes danced through the horde, cutting through beast after beast as King Rayden charged forward without the slightest hesitation.

The speech had reignited something within him... not just determination, but a refusal to lose.

And that feeling wasn’t limited to him, as Dead Eye Rayden also felt his blood pump after hearing those words, his eyes sharpened and the heat that had begun to fade from his gaze suddenly rekindled.

He was filled with the desire to prove to these vermin why he was feared as the number one hitman. Several of the buttons on his clothing suddenly tore loose, transforming in midair, expanding and reshaping themselves into several firearms... guns, rifles, with a large rifle strapped across his back while several others lined his sides, and two of the weapons transforming into portable guns that Dead Eye Rayden calmly grabbed.

His movements were precise, controlled, with no wasted motion. He raised the weapons.

BANG! BANG!

Several gunshots rang out before the beasts could even react to the sudden change. Some were struck directly in their vital points, their bodies jerked, their eyes widened, and before they could even understand what had happened, their lives were snuffed out.

One shot, one kill. Dead Eye Rayden’s gaze burned even brighter, the heat in his eyes rekindled once more, and this time... it was even more vibrant than before.

Meanwhile, King Rayden continued causing havoc amidst the beast horde. He was using a chunk of his remaining Qi to form the two lightning scythes, so he made sure every swing counted; every slash had to deal massive damage.

And if it didn’t outright take a life, then it at least needed to severely cripple the beast struck by it, because there was no room for waste anymore and his Qi reserves were too precious. King Rayden moved like a phantom, and with his speed, lightning, and incredible skill with the scythes, he became a bane to every beast that came near him.

Green lightning flashed through the forest, and everywhere it passed, beasts fell.

And while King Rayden continued cutting his way through the horde, the four-spiked gorilla’s gaze twitched harder.

The beast’s crimson eyes locked onto him, then it launched forward, its massive body shooting through the air and heading directly for King Rayden because it wanted to crush this arrogant human once and for all.

But before it could get close... WHOOSH! A kick tore through the air at lightning-fast speed, the attack brimming with tightly controlled Qi.

The four-spiked gorilla was caught slightly off guard, however, its battle instincts were sharp enough to allow it to react in time, and its hand immediately formed a guard.

BOOM!

The kick slammed into its arm, the sheer force behind the attack sending the massive beast hurtling backward through the air at top speed. The four-spiked gorilla twisted its body midair, quickly adjusting its posture before landing firmly on a sturdy patch of ground.

Its gaze remained calm, but its face twitched slightly as the beast looked down at its hand. It was hurting. The pain wasn’t excessive, nor even particularly serious, but that was exactly what made it difficult for the beast to accept: it had actually felt pain from that attack. A human had actually managed to make its body hurt.

The beast slowly raised its head. And there... a human figure was walking toward it. The beast recognized him immediately.

It was none other than Lazy Rayden, the third human... the one who had attacked it earlier and prevented it from facing King Rayden directly.

Lazy Rayden’s gaze remained exactly the same as it had always been, with one of his eyes completely closed and the other only half-lidded, his expression carrying the same lazy, almost uninterested look.

He looked at the massive four-spiked gorilla and sighed slightly. Why was he doing this again? He honestly had no idea. Maybe he had been slightly inspired by that green-haired guy’s words, or maybe hearing King Rayden declare that they would not yield had made him feel like he should put in a little more effort. Lazy Rayden shook his head.

"This is going to be too troublesome." He muttered under his breath. Yet for some reason... he couldn’t allow this big guy to interrupt the first guy’s battle.

Because after all, King Rayden was far more suitable for dealing with the beast horde than he was, and if this four-spiked gorilla managed to break through and reach King Rayden, it would make the situation much more troublesome.

And so... Lazy Rayden had decided that he would help him hold this big guy off... at least for now.

Lazy Rayden soon stood only a few meters away from the four-spiked gorilla, a look that almost seemed bored appearing on his face. "We can still end this without the hassle of battling, you know."

His tone was so casual that it almost sounded as though he were discussing something trivial. "You should just take your underlings back to wherever you came from, and this can end."

Lazy Rayden said it as though the entire conflict was nothing more than an unnecessary inconvenience, for to him, this entire war was beginning to feel like nothing but unnecessary trouble.

The four-spiked gorilla, however, didn’t seem like the type that could be reasoned with. Its crimson gaze shone fiercely, its muscles tensed, and a deep growl rumbled from its throat.

"I will rip you apart, insolent human!" Its voice shook the surrounding forest, as it seemed the beast had become even more annoyed now.

Lazy Rayden looked at it, his expression not changing even slightly. He slowly dragged a hand across his face before speaking, his tone sounding slightly subdued. "I guess you’re not the kind to sort things out the peaceful way."

His hand dropped to his side, his other hand slowly rose, and then he beckoned the four-spiked gorilla forward with one finger. "Come on, then."

His half-lidded eye opened slightly. "Come over here and let me end you real quick."
