Chapter 181
Could it be?
Could these boosts really be enough? Could he actually bridge the ridiculous gap between himself and Haoran? For a brief moment, Liyu felt that perhaps his preparation had finally paid off.
But almost as quickly as that hope rose, it was completely extinguished. Because after a while of adjusting to his body... or at least, that was what it seemed like from Liyu’s perspective... Haoran finally started fighting back. And the moment that happened, Liyu quickly realized something.
This guy was a freak. No. He had already realized that a long while ago. What he finally understood several exchanges into this next round was something far worse. Haoran was stronger than Liyu had imagined. Much stronger.
Even after Liyu had consumed several elixirs and drastically increased his physical attributes, even after restoring his Hybrid Form and pushing his body to a level far beyond what it had been before, Haoran was still able to fight him.
And not only fight him. He was gradually overpowering him.
As the battle continued, Liyu was sooner rather than later forced onto the losing side once more.
BANG!
A fist slammed into his guard.
BOOM!
Another attack struck his body.
The two figures clashed repeatedly across the stage, their movements so fast that many in the arena could barely follow them. Liyu suffered more and more damage. His body was battered. His muscles screamed.
Blood seeped from several wounds, his breathing became heavier. And his eyes couldn’t help but twitch vigorously.
What the hell? Why do I feel as if all my plans and preparations are completely for naught?
Liyu gritted his teeth as another powerful impact shook his body. Just how can someone be this ridiculously powerful? His mouth twitched.
For a moment, even Liyu couldn’t help but feel speechless. He had prepared. He had used his brain. He had tricked Haoran into abandoning his greatest advantage. He had consumed multiple elixirs. He had shattered a hundred Qi Beads to restore his Hybrid Form.
He had pushed his physical abilities even further. And yet... he was still being pushed back. Still, Liyu held on through sheer stubbornness. He refused to fall. He refused to give up. He refused to accept that this battle was already decided. I am not losing. No. I will win.
A few minutes later...
BOOM!
Liyu crashed hard into the ground. The impact sent cracks spreading beneath his body as dust and fragments of marble flew into the air. Blood blurred his vision. His entire body ached. Yet he still forced himself upward. He barely managed to rise before his instincts screamed.
Danger!
Liyu’s pupils contracted. He immediately flashed to the side.
BOOOOM!
A leg slammed down exactly where his head had been a moment ago. The force of the impact was terrifying. The extremely sturdy marble beneath it shattered instantly, fragments exploding outward from the point of impact as a massive crater formed on the stage.
Liyu tried to use the opening to strike, but he failed. Haoran dodged the attack with frightening ease, and in the very same motion, he launched his own counterattack.
BOOM!
A powerful punch, pulsing with the terrifying white marks covering Haoran’s body, smashed directly into Liyu’s mouth. The force behind the attack was monstrous. Liyu’s body was sent flying backward like a projectile, blood spraying from his mouth as he struggled to regain control of his body in midair.
He twisted himself and finally managed to land with one leg firmly planted on the ground, the impact forcing him to slide several meters across the marble stage before he finally came to a stop.
His breathing had increased. It had become noticeably more labored.
Liyu slowly raised his head and looked toward Haoran, who was still standing calmly in the same place. The guy hadn’t even moved much. His expression remained as emotionless as ever, but for some reason, Liyu could almost see a single message written across that expression. You are starting to bore me.
Liyu wanted to retort. He wanted to curse the guy. He even wanted to ask Haoran just what the hell was wrong with him. But before he could do any of that, another wave of pain suddenly surged through his body. His chest tightened.
Cough!
Liyu coughed out a mouthful of blood. He wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and shook his head slowly. There was no way. There was simply no way he would be able to win in a straight fight against this freak. Not even all the boosts he had gotten were enough to help him land a meaningful hit. This guy was just too ridiculously strong.
Liyu shook his head again as he forced himself to stand upright. The pain from their last clash made his entire body groan in agony. His muscles screamed, his bones felt as though they had been shaken apart, and every breath seemed to drag across wounds that had yet to fully recover.
But Liyu didn’t cry, he didn’t show fear either. Instead, he smiled. A dark, almost sinister smile slowly appeared on his face as he looked toward Haoran. The latter was standing there calmly, seemingly waiting for Liyu to come at him again so he could beat him down once more.
There wasn’t even any urgency in Haoran’s posture. It was almost as if he knew that no matter what Liyu did, the result would remain the same.
"Give up," Haoran said after seeing Liyu’s miserable situation. His voice remained calm.
He really was still holding himself back. And yet, despite that, Liyu looked as though he was already standing at the edge of fainting. Haoran couldn’t understand why the guy was still refusing to surrender. He could simply give up and save himself the world of pain he would have to suffer otherwise.
Liyu looked at Haoran with a slightly weary gaze for a few seconds. Then he shook his head.
"Sorry..." His voice was slightly hoarse, but there was still that familiar stubbornness in it. "...but I decline."
Liyu straightened his body slightly despite the pain ravaging him. "You see, all hope might seem lost..." A small smile appeared on his face. "...but don’t worry. I still have some tricks left that I can play."
Haoran looked at him with his expressionless white eyes. He didn’t respond immediately. Instead, he simply raised one hand and beckoned for Liyu to come forward.
"Come forward," his voice was calm. "I will end this." He paused for a brief moment. "One attack."
Liyu stared at him. Hearing those words and piecing them together, Liyu only smiled darkly. "You really are becoming quite arrogant." His smile widened slightly. "To think you truly believe that you would take me out with one attack."
Liyu slowly closed his eyes. For a brief moment, everything around him seemed to become quiet. Then his eyes opened again. His yellow slit pupils gleamed with a dangerous light. "Don’t mess around with me." His voice was low. "You would regret it."
After saying that, a joyless chuckle escaped his throat. Only Liyu knew the reason for that laugh. He had truly been giving his all. Everything. He had used his brain. He had manipulated Haoran. He had consumed multiple elixirs. He had sacrificed a hundred Qi Beads.
He had restored his Hybrid Form. He had pushed his physical abilities to their limits. He had thrown everything he had into this battle. And none of it was working. It was almost as if he truly couldn’t win this battle no matter what he tried. And was he imagining things? Or did it seem that as the seconds passed, that Haoran guy was getting stronger and stronger?
Liyu shook his head. No. That wasn’t the core problem. The core problem right now was that he was at his wit’s end. He had reached the point where every reasonable option had been exhausted.
And now... he would have to resort to cheating. Who said cheating wasn’t allowed in an honorable duel? Well... that would be him. But who cared about what he had said earlier? If he didn’t cheat, he would lose. There was absolutely no doubt about it.
Liyu slowly exhaled. "Cheating it is, then."
After making that decision, Liyu’s figure suddenly shot forward. He rushed toward Haoran’s figure, who was calmly waiting for him to approach. Haoran’s white eyes remained fixed on him.
He didn’t seem to think there was anything to worry about. And perhaps that was exactly what Liyu wanted. As they drew closer...
Liyu’s eyes sharpened. "Reactivate Momentum."
[Ding! Momentum has been activated.]
The system notification rang inside his mind. Before Haoran could react, Liyu suddenly turned into a blur. His speed exploded. His movement became so abrupt and sudden that even Haoran’s eyes barely had enough time to track what was happening. One moment, Liyu was charging straight toward him.
The next... he appeared right before him. But Liyu didn’t waste even a fraction of a second. His leg instantly wrapped around Haoran’s shoulder. Then he twisted his body. His other leg followed, wrapping tightly around Haoran’s neck.
Liyu’s body was practically hanging onto Haoran’s upper body as he locked himself into position.
He looked directly into Haoran’s glowing white eyes. For the first time, a slight wince appeared on Liyu’s face. This is gonna hurt, he knew that, whatever he was about to do would hurt.
But he didn’t hesitate. Not even for a moment. Liyu’s clawed fingers moved. With Momentum increasing his speed and reaction time by six times, everything happened fast. Too fast. Far too fast for an unprepared Haoran to guard against.
One moment, Liyu was charging toward him. The next moment, he was sitting atop his neck. And at that very same moment...
SHNK!
Liyu’s claw buried itself deep within Haoran’s eye.
