Chapter 184

Liyu climbed right onto Haoran’s back and, without any hesitation whatsoever, drove his claw straight into his eyes, piercing them completely. Haoran was unable to react fast enough. The claw buried itself deep within his eyes before he could even properly understand what was happening.

A pained yelp escaped from Haoran’s mouth as his entire body jolted violently. He immediately reached backward, trying to pull Liyu off him. With little to no effort at all, he was able to grab Liyu and yank him away before throwing him aside with overwhelming strength. Liyu managed to regain his bearing in midair and landed calmly on the ground a short distance away.

A small grin appeared on Liyu’s lips as he looked at Haoran. The large figure was standing there with both hands covering his eyes, his fingers pressed tightly against his face as blood slowly seeped between them. He had blinded him. Liyu’s grin deepened slightly. Good. At least he had managed to accomplish something.

The good thing was that this was a cultivation world. Liyu was more than certain that there was more than one way to help Haoran regain his sight. There were probably pills, treasures, techniques, or even powerful physicians capable of restoring damaged eyes.

But for now, taking Haoran’s sight away was the only method Liyu believed could possibly level the playing field. If he didn’t do this, he was going to lose. And that loss wouldn’t be anything subtle. It would be an absolute and overwhelming defeat.

At the audience seats, the entire arena erupted into an uproar. Murmurs instantly spread through the crowd as everyone stared at what Liyu had just done. Some looked stunned. Some looked disgusted. Some looked impressed.

"He is cheating!" one person shouted loudly from within the crowd. "He is shameless! Can’t he fight like a proper warrior without resorting to such underhanded tactics?"

"No, that isn’t cheating!" another person immediately argued, clearly one of Liyu’s supporters. "That is called fighting with strategy and having a battle plan!"

"You call that strategy?!"

"What else would you call it? He targeted a vital spot because that is the fastest way to end the fight!"

"No! That isn’t allowed!"

The crowd became even noisier as arguments erupted among themselves. Some supported Liyu’s shameless behavior, calling it nothing more than outsmarting his opponent and exploiting an opening.

Others saw it for exactly what they believed it was... a coward who had been cornered and was now desperately using whatever method he could to escape defeat. The entire arena became divided. Yet none of them could deny one thing. Liyu had done it. He had actually managed to blind Guan Haoran.

At the seats of the leaders, Guan Ju’s gaze was dark as he stared at Liyu. If looks could kill, Liyu would be more than dead right now. He would probably be nothing more than a memory at best. Guan Ju felt as if he could have killed that shameless bastard more than a million times already.

That shameless bastard. Wasn’t he the one who had been talking about an honorable fight and all that nonsense? And now, the moment things became unfavorable for him, he immediately went and did something like this.

Of course, Guan Ju was just being... well, Guan Ju. Because in a real life-and-death battle, honor didn’t matter. Survival did. And Liyu’s fighting style and the way he approached battles clearly carried that survival instinct deep within it.

When things became dire, he would use anything available to him if it meant surviving. From that perspective, Guan Ju could actually understand why Liyu had chosen to fight this way.

There was also another important thing to consider. The loss of one’s eyesight could be healed. Especially with a top-notch physician like Elder Ting nearby. So Guan Ju wasn’t particularly concerned about the fact that Liyu had blinded Haoran. Still, Guan Ju shook his head.

"It doesn’t matter," he said calmly. "Whether Liyu tried to cheat or not, his defeat is already set in stone. It cannot be changed."

His voice remained composed, but the next moment, Guan Ju’s gaze turned darker. "And if anything, he is in even deeper danger now."

A wicked glint burned within Guan Ju’s eyes.

That bastard had surely pissed Haoran off with that little stunt of his. And making Haoran angry while he was in the state he currently occupied was perhaps the stupidest thing anyone could ever think of doing.

Guan Ju leaned back slightly, his domineering demeanor not changing in the slightest as he focused his attention back on the battle below. Let’s see how that kid plans to survive this.

Back on the stage... Guan Haoran slowly lowered his hands away from his face. His eyes remained closed. White liquid dripped down from his face, streaking across his cheeks as he stood calmly in the exact same spot, completely unmoving and unshaken. There was no frantic movement, no panic and definitely no attempt to desperately search for Liyu.

He simply stood there. Calm and composed. As if the fact that his eyes had just been pierced and destroyed meant nothing at all. He remained like that for a very long time. A few seconds passed.

Then a few more. And finally, Haoran spoke. The moment his voice emerged, the very words seemed to carry a strange weight. The air around him trembled faintly, and the pressure filling the arena seemed to waver and shake alongside his voice.

"You are dishonorable," his voice was deep and cold. "A cheater..."

Liyu raised an eyebrow. "A cheater?"

He tilted his head slightly before a small smile appeared on his face. "Sorry, but I don’t think I am one."

Liyu had deliberately waited these past few seconds for one reason. He wanted to confirm something. Could this freak simply heal his damaged eyes in the blink of an eye? If Haoran possessed some ridiculous regeneration ability that could instantly restore his sight, then blinding him would have been completely meaningless.

But judging from the current situation... that seemed not to be the case. His eyes were still closed. He was still blind. And that meant... well then. Time to begin with the beating.

Liyu’s gaze sharpened. Haoran’s defense had skyrocketed after entering that dark-skinned state he was currently in. His body had become ridiculously tough, to the point where even Liyu’s strongest attacks had previously struggled to cause meaningful damage.

But that didn’t mean Liyu was going to stop. Not now. Not after everything he had gone through. With all the boosts he had received, alongside the skills he had activated, Momentum and Perfect Efficiency, and with his Origin Eyes still active, Liyu was going to give it everything he had once more.

And this time... Haoran was blind. Things seemed to be turning in his favor. At least, that was what Liyu believed.

Liyu bent slightly, lowering his center of gravity as his muscles tensed. He looked like a predator preparing to launch itself at its prey. Haoran was still standing there. Still unmoving. His lips seemed to be moving as he muttered something under his breath.

He must have been seriously pissed off. Liyu had clearly managed to anger the guy big time. But did Liyu care? The answer couldn’t have been any clearer. Not even a little.

"Whoooom!"

Liyu’s figure flashed forward. His speed exploded instantly, his body becoming nothing more than a blur as he crossed the distance between them. And this time...

BAM!

His fist connected cleanly with Haoran’s face. The impact was brutal. Haoran’s head snapped backward with violent force, his entire upper body shifting from the sheer power behind the punch. For the first time in a while, Liyu had landed a clean hit.

And he didn’t waste the opportunity. Haoran managed to steady himself almost immediately. His body had barely regained its balance when he launched an attack of his own. But Liyu was already moving.

With Momentum increasing his speed and reaction capabilities while Linear Blink allowed him to alter his position unpredictably, Liyu easily slipped away from the incoming attack.

The next instant...

BOOM!

A heavy kick slammed directly into Haoran’s neck. Liyu poured his full bestial strength into the attack. The force was immense. Haoran’s neck was actually pushed several inches to the side from the impact. Yet even that wasn’t enough to bring him down.

The two continued exchanging moves. Or rather... Liyu was doing the attacking. Haoran was defending. Or perhaps it only looked like he was defending. Because Haoran was getting hit over and over again. And judging from the repeated impacts rocking his body, he seemed to be doing a rather terrible job at it.

Liyu would have wanted to believe that perhaps it was because of his Momentum skill that he was able to land all those hits, combined with the fact that he was giving it his absolute all. But that wasn’t the case. Far from it. And Liyu knew it.

The reason Haoran was getting hit over and over again wasn’t simply because Liyu had suddenly become faster or stronger. It was because Haoran’s mind seemed to be disturbed. His thoughts were clearly in turmoil as he continued rambling the same single word under his breath, over and over again, almost like a man possessed.

"Cheater..."

"Cheater..."

"Cheater..."

It seemed the guy was genuinely hurt by Liyu’s little trick. Well, who should he blame? Certainly not Liyu. If Haoran hadn’t been so ridiculously powerful in the first place, Liyu wouldn’t have needed to resort to such tricks just to blind him before attacking.

Cheater. Cheater. Cheater.

BANG!

Another punch slammed into Haoran’s body.

BANG!

Another followed.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

Liyu’s attacks continued raining down relentlessly, each strike carrying all the strength he could muster as his claws, fists, elbows, and kicks repeatedly found their target. Yet despite landing hit after hit, Liyu’s expression became more and more solemn. There was something wrong.

Something that was becoming increasingly disturbing. One of the reasons for his growing solemnity was the fact that Haoran seemed to be getting stronger. Faster. More durable. With every passing second.

Earlier, Liyu’s attacks had at least been able to leave small dents on Haoran’s obsidian-like body. Then the effects of his attacks gradually became weaker. And weaker. And weaker. Until now... his attacks were barely leaving scratches.

Liyu’s eyes twitched. What the hell? This was disturbing, to say the least. How was this guy becoming even stronger while being beaten? But Liyu couldn’t afford to dwell on it. Not now. He had the advantage. A very small advantage, perhaps, but an advantage nonetheless.

And he couldn’t allow Haoran to take the lead again. If that happened, he would surely be cooked. Especially if Haoran managed to regain his sight. Or worse... if the guy managed to calm himself down and truly became serious. Liyu couldn’t allow either of those things to happen.

There was, however, something else Liyu was enjoying about the current situation. Haoran’s mind seemed to be too disturbed to properly think. The guy wasn’t fighting with the same clarity he had shown earlier. Instead, he was still struggling internally, trying to adjust to what had happened and gather his thoughts.

That made him even less capable of evading Liyu’s attacks effectively. But that wasn’t the only thing. Haoran wasn’t attacking back either. And that was precisely why it looked as though Liyu was managing to continuously push him backward.

Still, no one needed to tell Liyu for him to know with absolute certainty that this situation wouldn’t last forever. It couldn’t. He had to take Haoran down before the big guy regained his bearings. Because once that happened... everything would change.

Haoran’s mind was in slight turmoil. He respected Liyu. For his strength. His bravery. His courage. The young man had impressed him more than anyone else in this tournament. Haoran even believed that Liyu would have made a good sparring partner.

Perhaps even a good ally. He respected him somewhat. But now... now he had cheated. And cheater was the one thing Haoran couldn’t tolerate.

The word continued echoing inside his mind. Cheater. Cheater. Cheater.

Yet there was something different about Haoran’s current state. His emotions were deeply suppressed. No... they were almost completely suppressed by the State of Overflow. His body was currently acting as a vessel for the World Qi itself. His emotions had been pushed so far beneath the surface that even attempting to deliberately bring one forward required a tremendous amount of mental energy.

That was why something as simple as anger was taking so long to surface. He had to reach deep. Deeper than he had ever needed to before.

Seconds passed. Then those seconds slowly became minutes. Haoran continued standing there while Liyu’s attacks battered his body, his mind still reaching for the emotion he needed.

Until, after what felt like an eternity... he finally found it. The feeling slowly rose from the depths of his suppressed consciousness. And as it surfaced, Haoran’s expression gradually changed. The turmoil disappeared. The confusion vanished. His face became calm once more. Completely calm.

His breathing stabilized and his posture straightened. Within the depths of his conscious, something cold slowly awakened.

Haoran had reached a conclusion. Earlier, he hadn’t wanted to hurt Liyu. That was why he had repeatedly given him the option to surrender. It would have been the best choice Liyu could make. If he simply admitted defeat, Haoran would stop.

He wouldn’t need to suffer any more pain. But now... now things were different. The young man had chosen to blind him. He had chosen to continue attacking him. He had chosen to challenge him again and again. And Haoran’s patience had finally run out.

His expression remained calm. Almost unnaturally so. But beneath that calmness was something far more dangerous. He was going to crush him. He was going to completely crush Liyu.
