Chapter 185
Haoran finally reached the conclusion he had been searching for. The emotion he had been trying to reach for after so long had finally come within his grasp. It was none other than rage and disgust. Those who relied on cheap tricks to take the win against their opponents were worse than scum.
Those scummy cheaters deserved one thing and one thing only. They deserved to be crushed. Totally and absolutely crushed. Haoran’s mind, which had remained cloudy and disturbed for quite a while, finally calmed down.
And what followed after that was Haoran finally returning to battle mode. His head slowly rose. And this time, when Liyu’s fist came flying toward his face, Haoran dodged it with unbelievable ease. His movement was smooth. Casual. Almost effortless.
Before Liyu could even adjust his trajectory, Haoran’s leg swept sideways and delivered a vicious kick directly into his abdomen.
BOOM!
Liyu’s body shot backward like a cannonball. A mouthful of blood and spit burst from his lips as the force of the kick sent him flying through the air. But Liyu managed to regain his bearing. Momentum activated. His body abruptly stabilized in midair before landing calmly on the marble stage. Yet his gaze had already changed slightly.
His gaze were locked onto Haoran’s figure. The big guy stood slightly hunched, his body seemingly relaxed. Liyu frowned. His instincts were screaming at him. Something wasn’t right. No. Let him rephrase that. Something had gone terribly wrong.
And he just didn’t have any idea what the hell it was yet. Liyu rubbed his abdomen where Haoran’s kick had struck him, his fingers pressing against the aching spot as his frown deepened. His instincts surely couldn’t be wrong.
This guy... he was getting stronger. With every passing minute. The kick Haoran had just unleashed carried far more power than the previous ones. The difference wasn’t small either. It was massive. But how? How could he possibly be getting stronger?
Liyu’s gaze twitched. Then Haoran moved. Slowly, he lifted his head and looked directly in Liyu’s direction. A faint scowl rested on his face. It looked... kind of scary. Actually, it looked fucking terrifying.
Because Haoran’s emotions were deeply suppressed by the State of Overflow, any emotion he managed to express through sheer willpower wouldn’t be some diluted version of that feeling. It would be the emotion in its purest form.
And the expression currently plastered across Haoran’s face was nothing but a scowl mixed with absolute disgust. His white eyes remained cold and empty.
"No more chances for you," his voice was calm. Far too calm. "I’ll crush you here and now."
Haoran clenched his fist.
Crack!
The air itself seemed to fracture around his fist as the World Qi surrounding his body surged violently. The pressure instantly intensified. Liyu’s hair stood on end. Every instinct in his body screamed that something was coming.
BOOM!
A fist tore through the space directly in front of Liyu, smashing toward his skull... or rather, the place where his skull had been a moment ago. Liyu’s eyes widened. He barely managed to react. With the assistance of Momentum and Linear Blink, his body blurred out of the attack’s path.
The fist missed his head by an incredibly narrow margin. Barely. But Haoran didn’t let up. He immediately pursued. Another attack followed. And another. Liyu didn’t flee, though. Haoran might have gotten serious, but this time, unlike before, he didn’t seem to be as good-hearted as he had been.
He wasn’t going to give Liyu another opportunity to escape. This time, he wanted to crush him. How unfortunate. Liyu was the one who wanted to rush him first.
The two figures collided once more.
BOOM!
Their fists clashed.
BANG!
A kick swept past.
CRACK!
The air trembled beneath the force of their movements.
The two began exchanging moves at their top speed. Liyu was currently at his absolute strongest. With all the boosts he had received from the elixirs, every one of his active skills, Momentum, Linear Blink, Origin Eyes, Perfect Efficiency, and everything else he had activated, his physical attributes had reached a level far beyond what they had been at the beginning of the battle.
He was stronger than he had ever been. And with his Hybrid Form further layered on top of all those enhancements... Liyu was a monster right now. A monster that even a Foundation Realm warrior would be extremely unlucky to encounter in battle. But even then... even with all those boosts.
Even with all that power. Even after pushing himself beyond his previous limits. He was still barely surviving against Haoran. The frightening part was that Haoran was becoming faster. And faster. With every passing second, he was getting stronger and stronger.
His attacks continued growing more powerful as the battle progressed, while his movements became increasingly precise. But perhaps the most terrifying thing of all was how quickly he seemed to be adapting. He was learning Liyu’s battle style. Understanding his movements.
Adjusting to his rhythm. And doing it at a pace that was truly mind-blowing, to say the least.
Liyu’s eyes narrowed as another attack narrowly passed his face. This bastard... how the hell was he adapting this quickly? At this rate, even all the advantages Liyu had painstakingly prepared were slowly being swallowed up.
And the more they fought... the more dangerous Haoran became. As the two fought, Liyu managed to evade the fatal blows with the aid of his Origin Eyes, Eagle Eyes, Momentum, and Linear Blink.
Combined with the extraordinary reflexes and heightened senses that his Hybrid Form granted him, he was able to hold on for a while. But as the minutes passed, Liyu began to feel a cold sense of apprehension slowly grasping around his heart. Something was seriously wrong.
"Damnation..." Liyu narrowly twisted his body to avoid another devastating attack, his eyes sharpening as the fist passed dangerously close to his face. "Sys, help me analyze this freak," he gritted his teeth. "I am clearly not imagining things. This guy is definitely getting stronger."
And it wasn’t just that. He was getting faster. Faster and faster. At the same time, his durability was also increasing with every passing second. And that wasn’t even all of it. The most troublesome part was that Haoran had almost finished adapting to Liyu’s battle style.
Once that happened... Liyu didn’t need anyone to tell him what would happen. It would be more than obvious. He was cooked.
A system notification suddenly rang clearly within Liyu’s mind.
Ding! Host, I have analyzed your opponent as you asked me to.
Liyu’s eyes flickered as he continued fighting. "And?" He ducked beneath another punch.
"And I have three news..."
"Okay, tell me the good news first," Liyu said immediately.
His body blurred. Another devastating attack swept past him, the force behind it carving several deep trenches into the marble stage. At the same time, Liyu counterattacked.
BANG!
His fist slammed directly across Haoran’s face. Yet, as usual, the attack barely left any mark. Liyu’s expression twitched. Damn freak. The two continued exchanging blows, their figures flashing across the stage as they battled at terrifying speeds. Fists collided. Kicks were exchanged.
The marble beneath their feet continued cracking and breaking apart. But strangely... the system remained silent. Liyu couldn’t hold himself back anymore.
"Hey, Sys," he dodged another attack and immediately countered with a vicious kick. "What is the matter?"
There was a brief silence. Then the system finally spoke. And its tone sounded slightly infuriated. It also sounded somewhat speechless, as if it genuinely didn’t know how to drop the bombshell it was carrying without completely destroying Liyu’s already fragile hope.
"Host, I said I have three news."
Liyu frowned. "But I didn’t say that any one of them was good news."
Liyu suddenly froze. ...What? His mind went blank for a brief moment. No good news? None at all? Before he could fully process that, Haoran’s fist slammed across his face.
BOOM!
Liyu’s head snapped sideways. Thankfully, Momentum allowed him to reduce the impact significantly. He twisted with the force of the blow, using it to stabilize his body before landing calmly on his feet. His eyes twitched violently.
"Really?" He stared at the empty space in front of him as though he could somehow glare directly at the system. "No fucking good news?" He gritted his teeth.
"So you’re basically trying to tell me that all three pieces of news are bad news, isn’t it?"
The system remained silent for a while. Then it finally confirmed it. "Yes, Host." A pause. "Affirmative."
Liyu’s mouth twitched. "But you’re slightly wrong again."
Liyu blinked. "What?"
"There are not simply three bad news." The system’s tone became strangely solemn. "I would categorize them into three different stages. There is one bad news..." A brief pause. "...one worse news..." Another pause. "...and then there is one worst news."
Liyu’s expression slowly froze. "..."
"Which one do you want to listen to first?"
Liyu’s mind almost went completely blank in pure disbelief. He wanted to scream toward the heavens. What the actual fuck is going on?! Three bad news.
And they weren’t simply three ordinary pieces of bad news. No. They were categorized from bad... to worse... to worst. Just how terrible could these things possibly be for even the system to classify them like that?
Liyu’s face twitched. If the system had gone as far as separating them into those three categories, then there was only one conclusion he could draw. They had to be pretty damn serious.
Liyu was attacked by Haoran again as the two continued their battle. Liyu was gradually being suppressed. It was subtle at first, almost impossible to notice, but as time passed, it became more and more obvious, and Liyu hated every single second of it.
If there was something he hated even more, however, it was the reply he was about to receive from his system.
"Okay, I will begin with the bad news..." The system’s voice sounded unusually serious. "Your suspicion is correct, Host. Haoran is indeed getting stronger and stronger, faster and faster, more durable and more durable..."
Liyu’s gaze didn’t change. He had already guessed that much from fighting Haoran over and over again. The bastard’s strength had been increasing right before his eyes, and it was impossible for him not to notice it.
However, the system’s next words made his eyes twitch, and for a brief moment, his mind nearly went haywire.
"But you are wrong about it happening every minute. Instead, his strength, speed, reflexes, durability, and adaptability are increasing with every passing second..."
Liyu stared blankly for a moment. Every passing second? He dodged another one of Haoran’s attacks with Linear Blink, his body vanishing from the path of the incoming fist before reappearing several meters away.
"You have totally got to be kidding me..."
"Affirmative, Host. Every few seconds."
Liyu’s mouth twitched. Every few seconds. That bastard wasn’t simply getting stronger during their battle. He was continuously evolving while fighting him.
"Go on, then. Tell me what the worse news is." Liyu’s voice carried a completely joyless tone as he continued moving across the stage, barely avoiding another devastating attack from Haoran.
"If the bad news is already something so interesting, then the worse news is probably going to be even more mind-numbing, isn’t it?" He let out a dry, joyless laugh. Who could blame him?
The person he was facing was a complete freak who was getting stronger with every passing second. So yeah, Haoran was definitely the one who deserved the blame for all of this.
The system remained silent for a while. Then, it finally dropped the second bombshell.
"The worse news..." A brief pause. "...is the fact that Haoran’s sight is restoring itself. I believe that within a few minutes, his sight will be completely restored."
Liyu froze. His entire body twitched. His expression went blank for several seconds before disbelief rapidly flooded his face.
"What in the actual hell?"
How could he restore his sight? He had stabbed his claws directly into Haoran’s eyes. The bastard had been completely blinded, and yet now his eyes were actually healing themselves without the use of any elixir, pill, or medical treatment. How was that even allowed? How was that even supposed to be possible?
"Host, I believe that it has something to do with that state..."
Liyu’s gaze became even darker. "Yes, yes, yes..."
Of course. It had to be that. All of this had something to do with that bastard state Haoran was currently in. There was no other explanation. But knowing the reason didn’t make the situation any better. Not even remotely. It only made Liyu realize just how completely screwed he was becoming.
The only reason the battle had remained somewhat of a stalemate up until this point was because Haoran didn’t have his sight. That alone had given Liyu the opportunity to overwhelm him with his speed, Momentum, Linear Blink, Origin Eyes, Eagle Eyes, and every other advantage he could possibly stack together.
But if Haoran regained his sight... things would quickly spiral out of hand. They wouldn’t merely go from bad to worse. They would jump from bad to absolutely disastrous in a single instant.
Liyu’s expression became slightly dead as he continued exchanging blows with Haoran. He could already imagine just how ugly things would become once those blinding white eyes opened again. With a slight deadlike tone, Liyu finally spoke.
"Drop the last bombshell." He didn’t even believe there could be anything worse than the first two. Haoran was already becoming stronger every few seconds, and now his sight was restoring itself. What else could possibly be worse than that?
The system remained silent. This time, the silence lasted longer. It was almost as if the system itself was considering whether it should tell him the final piece of information.
After all, this one might hurt. Perhaps, if Liyu knew the truth, he would finally make the sensible decision and give up. Perhaps. With that thought, the system finally reached its conclusion. He needed to know. And so, the final bombshell was dropped.
"The worst news is that..." The system paused. "...I don’t know if you have noticed, but Haoran’s transformation is continuing."
Liyu’s expression slowly changed. "And ever since you pissed him off, it seems to have accelerated." The system’s voice became even more serious. "If I’m not mistaken, his transformation should be completely finished within a few minutes."
A brief silence followed. Then came the final blow. "And after that happens, Host..." The system hesitated for a moment. "I hate to say this..." Another pause. "...but I don’t think you have any chance of winning this."
Liyu’s gaze twitched. Once. Twice. Then continuously. His eyes twitched so violently that it almost looked as though he were having a seizure.
For several seconds, he simply stood there, his expression frozen in utter disbelief while Haoran continued attacking him. Bad news. Worse news. Worst news. Strength, speed, reflexes, durability, and adaptability increasing every few seconds. His sight restoring itself.
And then his transformation was going to be completed within minutes. What the actual hell was this? Liyu’s face slowly distorted. He could no longer hold himself back.
"Wait..." His voice came out strained. Then his expression completely collapsed. "What in the actual hell?!!!!" Liyu cursed.
