Unfortunately... that also meant West was constantly surrounded.
Everyone wanted a word with him to build connections in case of future cooperation.
Security members politely controlled the flow of people approaching the Shadow Reapers leader.
Only particularly important guests were allowed close without waiting.
Near the entrance, a beautiful dark silky haired woman wearing an elegant cream-colored dress tried squeezing through the crowd.
"I’m sorry."
"I know him."
"I just need one minute."
The guards smiled apologetically. "Please wait."
"It’s important."
"I really do know West."
Unfortunately... the music was loud, the laughter of people and the sound of glasses clinking together.
West couldn’t hear her and the guards wouldn’t let her get close because she was technically unknown.
She tried again. "WEST!"
Still, it didn’t help. To make matters even worse, several guests blocked her view entirely.
She sighed before raising her voice one final time. "WEST!"
This time, West heard it and turned.
His eyes widened slightly upon spotting the incredibly beautiful figure up behind. "...Liz?"
He immediately stood. "It’s alright."
"Let her through."
The surrounding guests stepped aside and Liz finally reached the table.
For a brief second... Even Zu Li couldn’t help studying her.
Liz possessed a softer beauty compared to Zu Li’s commanding elegance. Her long silky-black hair rested gracefully over her shoulders, pairing perfectly with her bright blue eyes. The fitted cream dress highlighted her graceful figure while maintaining a refined, professional appearance.
Standing beside Zu Li, the contrast between them was striking.
One radiated mature authority while the other carried a gentle warmth.
Zu Li smiled politely but somewhere deep inside, she couldn’t help feeling just a tiny bit competitive.
West smiled. "It’s been a while."
Liz returned the smile. "It really has."
"I’m sorry I never came by sooner."
"I kept meaning to..."
"...life just became complicated."
West waved dismissively. "Don’t worry about it."
"Sit."
She accepted the seat.
"I’ve been seeing you everywhere on the news lately," she laughed softly.
"I almost couldn’t believe the famous Shadow Reapers leader was the same person who helped me that day."
West rubbed the back of his neck. "I’ve been keeping busy."
"I can see that," her expression turned sincere.
"I also wanted to thank you again."
"For saving my fiancé."
"I’ll never forget it."
West nodded gently. "How’s he doing?"
Liz’s smile faded slightly. "...Still the same."
"He’s still bedridden."
"Just like before, the doctors say recovery is possible..."
"...but it’ll take time."
West could see the exhaustion hiding behind her composed expression.
He offered an encouraging smile. "He’ll get there."
"You’ve both made it this far."
She nodded. "I hope so."
West lifted his glass. "Well..."
"I’m glad you came."
"This is supposed to be a celebration."
"So for tonight..."
"...forget your worries."
He smiled warmly. "I’m going to make sure you have a great time."
Liz couldn’t help smiling back. "...I’d like that."
As time passed, the celebration showed absolutely no signs of slowing down.
If anything... it only became livelier as the evening wore on.
The live band had switched from elegant orchestral pieces to upbeat jazz and contemporary music, filling the hall with energy. Laughter echoed across every corner as Shadow Reapers members mingled with guests from all over Misty High City.
People toasted, business cards exchanged hands, promising partnerships were discussed and veteran gang leaders quietly measured one another while pretending to be casual.
Tonight wasn’t merely a celebration, it was networking on a grand scale.
Jax, on the other hand... inderstood absolutely none of that.
He had somehow wandered into the dance floor after being convinced by several recruits.
"No! No! Watch this!" he dramatically rolled up his sleeves. "I’m about to show you youngsters why experience beats talent!"
One recruit folded his arms. "...You’ve only been awakened a few months."
"Silence."
"Wisdom isn’t measured by time."
"It’s measured by..."
He paused dramatically. "...Aura."
Someone from the back shouted. "You don’t have aura!"
"I HAVE TREMENDOUS AURA!"
"More like tremendous AURA debt..."
A small laughter rang out from Shadow Reapers members but Jax ignored them.
The music changed and Jax immediately began dancing.
At first, it wasn’t terrible.
People even clapped until he attempted something far beyond his abilities.
He spun, lost balance and slipped.
"WOOOOAAAHHH!"
He somehow stumbled across three tables, narrowly avoided a waiter carrying champagne, grabbed onto a decorative pillar, bounced off it, landed perfectly on both feet...
...and immediately struck a pose.
Then thunderous applause erupted.
Jax spread both arms. "You see?"
"I planned that."
Nina, who had returned earlier that day, stared at him with complete disappointment.
"...You nearly caused property damage."
Jax placed a hand over his chest. "You simply lack artistic vision."
She sighed. "I regret coming back from that ruin."
Everyone nearby burst into laughter.
...
Meanwhile, West continued greeting guests.
Every few minutes another influential person approached.
Some brought expensive wine, others brought ancient artifacts recovered from ruins while several companies offered sponsorships.
One businessman even tried donating a luxury vehicle.
West politely declined.
Aria stood nearby keeping mental notes of every name, every offer and every future obligation.
She was terrifyingly efficient.
"You’ve memorized all of them already?" West whispered.
She nodded. "I categorized them too."
"...You’re scary."
"I’ve been told."
...
Back at the table, Zu Li crossed her arms while staring directly at West who had just finished chatting with another guest.
He immediately recognized that expression. "...Uh oh."
She walked over. "We need to talk."
West sighed dramatically. "I’ve suddenly remembered another guest I need to greet."
"No," she grabbed his sleeve before he could escape. "You’re staying."
West laughed helplessly. "What did I do this time?"
She narrowed her eyes. "When was the last time you came to training?"
"..."
West looked at the ceiling. "What an interesting chandelier."
"I’m serious."
"So am I."
"You’ve been avoiding training."
"I’ve been busy."
"You’ve been making excuses."
West rubbed the back of his neck. "There were wars."
"Ruins."
"Gang management."
"Iron Vultures."
Zu Li remained unmoved. "This week... you are coming."
West grinned. "I don’t think I need training anymore."
