My Cuckhold System

Chapter 322: Can I Ask You Something?

The celebration continued outside with music and laughter filtering faintly through the thick walls of the Shadow Reapers headquarters.

Meanwhile... West led Liz toward his office.

The moment she stepped inside, she paused. "...Wow."

The office was far larger than she had expected.

A floor-to-ceiling glass wall overlooked much of the Shadow Reapers compound, giving a panoramic view of the illuminated training grounds and the city skyline beyond.

Bookshelves lined one side of the room, while the opposite wall displayed framed maps of Misty High City, marked with districts, gang territories, and future expansion plans.

A smooth ebony desk sat near the center of the room, accompanied by comfortable leather chairs and a seating area with plush sofas surrounding a low marble table.

Liz slowly turned in a circle. "I didn’t expect..."

"...something this sophisticated."

West chuckled. "Neither did I."

"I let Aria decorate."

Liz smiled knowingly. "That explains everything."

West gestured toward the sofa. "Have a seat."

Within moments, holographic maps appeared above the table as Liz opened her tablet.

"So..." she smiled professionally. "Business first."

West nodded. "Let’s hear it."

Immediately, Liz’s demeanor changed.

The slightly nervous woman from earlier disappeared.

Instead, she became completely focused.

"This district," she enlarged part of the city.

"Industrial expansion is expected within the next two years."

"The land is relatively cheap now."

"It won’t stay that way."

West studied the projection. "And this one?"

"A residential district."

"But not because of the apartments."

She highlighted surrounding roads. "The transport network being approved nearby will dramatically increase commercial activity."

She continued presenting one opportunity after another ranging from commercial buildings to warehouses to office towers and vacant land suitable for future headquarters, investment properties, mixed-use developments.

She explained projected appreciation, market risks, taxation, zoning restrictions, and expected rental income with remarkable confidence.

West listened carefully. "You’ve really done your homework."

Liz laughed softly. "This is my field."

"I spend more time reading property reports than novels."

West smiled. "I believe it."

An hour passed almost without either of them noticing.

Eventually, Liz closed the final projection. "I think that’s everything."

West leaned back. "I’ll take them."

Her eyes widened in disbelief. "...All of them?"

He nodded. "I trust your judgment."

She stared at him with a look of astonishment. "Most people would’ve negotiated for another hour."

West shrugged. "I know you’re an expert."

"If I spend all my time second-guessing the expert..."

"...what was the point?"

Liz couldn’t help smiling. "I’ll prepare all the contracts tomorrow."

"I’ll personally bring them over."

"No problem," West stood to his feet. "For now..."

He walked toward a nearby cabinet. "...let’s forget business."

He retrieved an expensive bottle of red wine along with two crystal glasses. "We’ve both earned a break."

Liz laughed. "I don’t usually drink while working."

"Good thing you didn’t come here to work. You came to party."

She accepted the glass and tasted the rich and smooth wine.

The conversation gradually drifted away from contracts.

Instead... they talked about work, difficult clients and ridiculous negotiations...

West told the story of Jax somehow convincing three recruits that he’d once fought an awakened shark who could solve algebraic equations.

Liz laughed so hard she nearly spilled her wine. "You’re joking."

"I wish I was."

"He actually kept a straight face."

"And they believed him?"

"They asked what happened to the shark."

"What did he say?"

West grinned. "He claimed it was his high school teacher, Mrs Potts."

Liz burst into laughter again. "I need to meet this Jax."

"Oh..."

"You absolutely do."

"He’ll probably adopt you as his little sister within five minutes."

The conversation flowed naturally.

West noticed that the tiredness she’d carried into the office had gradually disappeared.

Her shoulders had relaxed and she smiled more often.

She even teased him back whenever he made playful remarks.

"So..." she tilted her head. "Is this how the famous Shadow Reapers leader negotiates?"

"What?"

"Making people laugh until they forget they’re in a business meeting."

West raised his glass. "It’s an underrated strategy."

"I’ll have to steal it."

"I charge consulting fees."

"Oh?"

"What are they?"

He pretended to think. "One good joke."

She smiled. "I think I can afford that."

For another half hour they simply enjoyed each other’s company until eventually... Liz glanced at the time.

It was already past 10pm and she was practically her fiancée caregiver so she should already have been home ages ago.

Her eyes widened. "I should really go."

She stood while smoothing her dress. "Thank you."

West nodded and walked her toward the office door.

She hesitated at the door and turned back to look at him. "...Can I ask you something?"

"Sure."

She observed his facial expression. "How come..."

"...you never tried to get me out of my clothes in order to accept the business proposition? You simply just conducted with no strings attached..."

West expression softened. "Because that’s how business is supposed to be conducted? Besides, I really need to acquire more assets."

She lowered her gaze. "You’d be surprised how many people think otherwise."

West leaned casually against the doorway. "I’m not interested in forcing someone into anything. I don’t do my things that way."

He smiled gently. "You’re an attractive woman."

"If you made a move on me, I wouldn’t refuse."

A faint blush colored her cheeks.

"But attraction and transaction are two different things."

"If I ever decided to take anyone’s clothes off..." he drew closer till his lips were inches away from her left ear. "...I’d want it to be because they genuinely wanted to."

"Not because they felt pressured."

Her heart was beating so intensely right now due to West’s closeness.

Not only was he incredibly charming and difficult to avoid falling for, his mindset made him even more attractive. From their standpoint, she was the one who needed this transaction more than he did, so he had leverage over her and yet he still didn’t abuse that leverage.

West shrugged. "I can’t enjoy it if the other person isn’t as into me as I am into them."
