My Cuckhold System

Chapter 326: Heart of Genesis

"No wonder people call it Castle Extingo."

West continued reading and discovered that the castle consisted of numerous floors.

However... unlike ordinary buildings where one climbed upward... Castle Extingo worked in reverse.

Everyone entering the rift appeared on the highest floor.

From there... the only path forward was downward.

Every descent brought explorers closer to richer treasures and greater danger.

The lowest floor... according to every available source, contained the greatest rewards in the entire castle.

It was also believed to house the legendary treasure Freya had spoken about.

West tapped the table thoughtfully. "So the deeper you go..."

"...the greater the reward."

"But also..."

"...the greater the chance you die."

He wasn’t surprised. Nothing valuable ever came easily.

Another report that caught his attention, explained why Castle Extingo remained undefeated despite appearing every hundred years.

Its greatest obstacle wasn’t merely the monsters... it was also the restriction.

Only awakeners who had been awakened for one year or less could enter.

That meant... everyone participating was effectively still a rookie.

They were all tier one awakeners, with majorly a single branch and limited combat experience.

Normally... Veteran awakeners could brute-force through many dangerous situations.

Castle Extingo removed that possibility entirely.

It forced inexperienced awakeners to rely on teamwork, intelligence and adaptability.

West quietly nodded. "No wonder everyone forms teams."

Reading further, he discovered the castle itself wasn’t a single uninterrupted structure.

Every floor contained multiple districts, residential-like sectors, ancient libraries, collapsed cathedrals, underground prisons, gardens, laboratories, massive banquet halls and so on.

Every section housed different dangers, puzzles and rewards.

Some explorers spent an entire month exploring only one floor before the castle disappeared again.

West frowned. "So absurdly huge..."

He opened another expedition journal.

The author had survived nearly eighty years earlier.

The handwriting grew increasingly frantic toward the final pages.

"...Never underestimate anything..."

"...The smallest creatures kill just as efficiently..."

"...Our strongest member died to insects..."

West blinked. "Insects?"

He continued reading and the journal described tiny ant-like creatures no larger than a thumb.

Just a single one had stripped a Tier One awakener to bones within seconds.

West slowly closed the journal. "...Right."

"Noted."

Another report documented invisible pressure fields... another described corridors that rearranged themselves... another warned of mirrors capable of trapping consciousness...

Some traps couldn’t even be detected until they activated.

The more West read... the more he realized something.

Castle Extingo danger surpassed even two-layered ruins.

Considering its impossible size, endless floors, countless unknown creatures and environmental hazards... its difficulty level bordered on insanity.

And yet... every appearance attracted thousands of first-year awakeners.

This was because the rewards were equally absurd.

Even explorers who failed to descend very far often emerged carrying treasures worth millions.

Many gangs funded rookie teams specifically for this expedition.

According to Aria’s reports... registration through the Mafia cost approximately one million dollars per team.

West initially thought the amount ridiculous until he continued reading.

Successful expeditions routinely generated ten to twenty and sometimes even a hundred times that amount in profit.

No wonder organizations practically fought over promising first-year awakeners.

West finally reached the section discussing legendary treasures.

His fingers stopped atop a grainy photograph, taken over three centuries ago.

It depicted a perfectly spherical object suspended above an elaborate pedestal.

The sphere looked almost ordinary with smooth white features.

Yet... something about it made West continue staring.

"...So that’s it," he picked up the accompanying document. "The Heart of Genesis."

"Interesting name."

The moment he began reading, his expression slowly changed. "...Capable of awakening latent potential..."

"...Allows ordinary humans to awaken..."

"...Extremely unstable outside Castle Extingo..."

"...Historically impossible to secure..."

West reread that paragraph again and again before leaning back. "...Whoa."

"So that’s why everyone loses their minds over this thing."

If the information proved accurate... yhe Heart of Genesis could awaken ordinary people.

Which meant that, a faction possessing it could gradually create its own awakened force.

It was a terrifying thought to behold. Entire organizations could reshape the balance of power if they possessed it.

It made sense why Freya wanted it. The mafia would technically crown her queen if she could acquire such a treasure for them.

No wonder four centuries of bloodshed had revolved around this single treasure.

West couldn’t help laughing. "What an unbelievable prize..."

He looked toward the ceiling. "...Too bad it’s practically useless to me."

His system already allowed him to purchase Awakening Vouchers.

He already possesed the power to create awakened allies from the very beginning.

Compared to the Heart of Genesis... his system accomplished the same objective without requiring him to fight half the awakened world.

The legendary treasure everyone desired... held almost no personal value to him.

He rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "I could simply refuse Freya."

The idea lingered for several seconds before he shook his head. "No."

"Castle Extingo itself is worth entering."

The Heart of Genesis may not be his objective but everything else was.

The castle contained countless treasures.

Surely the greatest prize wasn’t the only extraordinary object hidden within.

There had to be other relics, ancient materials and perhaps even resources that his system couldn’t replicate.

Walking away wasn’t an option.

However... another realization surfaced. "I don’t like being controlled."

West stood and walked toward the enormous city map mounted upon his wall. "If Freya wants one team..."

"...I’ll bring two," his eyes sharpened. "An independent team led by Jax."

If one group became delayed...

It significantly increased Shadow Reapers’ chances.

There was only one problem left now.

West frowned. "...First-year awakeners."

The eligibility wasn’t optional. Anyone awakened for more than one year would simply be rejected by the castle.

Currently... him, Jax and Nina qualified.

Beyond that... very few Shadow Reapers members met the requirement.

Many recruits had already been awakened for years before joining.

That left Shadow Reapers surprisingly short-handed.

West looked toward the calendar noting that exactly three months remained.

Three months to prepare for what many considered the greatest opportunity of an awakened’s first year.

A slow smile spread across his face. "Looks like..."

"...the next big adventure has already begun."
