My Kingdom Building Done Right!
Chapter 288: The Beginning Of The End [Part 3]The Monster King couldn’t shrug off the barrage from the reinforced siege weapons of the Aslan Tribe.
Blood continued to rain from its body despite the black aura acting as a layer of armor that covered it entirely.
In the meantime, the hundreds of flying monsters had caught up with their leader, descending upon the defenders like birds of prey marking the fish they had been eyeing.
However, the barbarians were no mere prey.
They were hunters themselves!
"Do not waver!" Kael shouted. "Shoot them down!"
Blitz, Brann, Maximus, Godwin, and Astravor engaged the Monster King in the sky.
Every time it tried to unleash a Dragon’s Breath, the five of them would unleash their strongest attack at its face, disrupting its devastating trump card.
However, the Bronze Dragon soon broke free from their encirclement, allowing it to unleash its breath attack at Leone, who was still giving orders to everyone.
Knowing that the breath attack would incinerate hundreds of people if it hit, Leone rose up to meet it without fear.
He then raised the banner in his hands high and shouted with all of his might.
"Call to Arms!"
A ripple of power expanded outward, swiftly covering the entire battlefield.
A barrier that nullified all forms of damage had manifested, wrapping everyone in a golden light.
This was the first boon that Leone received after succeeding in claiming his territory. Daedalus had asked him to save this trump card as a last resort in the past.
With that in mind, Leone didn’t waste it.
And now, he had finally used this skill to protect everyone in battle.
Within seconds, stacks of buffs piled on top of one another, increasing everyone’s stats in battle. In turn, morale rose drastically, repelling the fear and confusion that was caused by the Monster King’s roar.
"Everyone, don’t hold back!" Leone shouted. "For as long as this golden glow surrounds our body, we are invincible! Do not fear! Just go for the kill!"
At first, Logan thought Leone was merely joking.
Though after seeing a warrior survive an attack from the Black-Scaled Basilisk, the monster that had suffered serious injuries from its own leader’s breath attack, he realized that Leone wasn’t joking.
Because of this, he charged at the Black-Scaled Basilisk and engaged it in close combat.
Despite the snake landing powerful tail whips at the Orc Champion and even managing to send Logan flying, the latter didn’t feel any pain whatsoever.
Drunk with this moment of invincibility, he began to hack at the Black-Scaled Basilisk like a mad Orc until he managed to chop off its head.
It was not only the Aslanians who had received this invincibility buff. Even the other tribes were shocked to confirm that they had truly become invincible.
And when Leone reminded them that the buff had a time limit of fifteen minutes, everyone went all out to kill as many monsters as possible, moving as if they had been injected with chicken blood.
Knowing that it was all or nothing, Rasta led the Orc Shamans to join the aerial squad facing off against the Monster King.
After all, it was the greatest threat on the battlefield. For as long as it stood, they would never be safe from danger.
Leone wished the invincibility buff could last forever. But, just like everything else, it was finite.
Despite suffering so many powerful blows on its body, the Monster King was truly a formidable monster.
When the Bronze Dragon realized that the flies buzzing around its body weren’t affected by any of its attacks, it changed its strategy.
Out of nowhere, it dove down from the sky and slammed its body against the Aslan Tribe’s first line of defense.
It didn’t even care if it killed its allies in battle in its all-out attack.
The walls shook in response, and cracks appeared on its surface. Yet the wall held.
The Bronze Dragon slammed into it again and again, prompting the other monsters to copy their leader. Soon, most of them were using their bodies to pound the wall with all their might.
Daedalus kept repairing the walls to keep it stable, but the damage was piling up so fast that its stone resources were being depleted at an incredibly fast rate.
Eventually, the Monster King succeeded and destroyed a part of the wall, allowing the monsters to pour into the location where the Fireshard Catapults were located.
"Retreat!" Jason shouted. "I’ll buy you time!"
The young man transformed into his Wolf Sovereign form and clashed with the monsters that managed to enter the base of the mountain.
The other warriors from the other tribes had also formed a defensive line, allowing the shamans to escape to the fortress in the mountain.
The invincibility was still in effect, so a one-sided massacre ensued.
Until a monster that made Jason’s fur stand on end jumped through the gap in the wall and landed right in front of him.
It was none other than the Ogre Warlord, the strongest Rank 6 Monster under the Bronze Dragon’s command.
Looking at it, Jason knew that if left unchecked, it would massacre those who were still retreating towards the fortress.
"Let’s go, Fenn!" Jason ordered.
The Lunar Wolf, who was Jason’s familiar, coordinated with its Master and attacked the Ogre Warlord with both fury and tenacity.
Every swipe of its claws drew blood, while every bite pierced through the monster’s skin.
However, its regeneration ability was truly extraordinary. Its wounds healed in a matter of seconds, making Jason feel helpless.
The young man gazed at his surroundings. Seeing the warriors subjugate the other monsters with no problems while he dealt with the Ogre Warlord, he let out a sigh of relief.
"Let’s finish him, Fenn!" Jason decided to unleash his strongest attack, targeting the Ogre Warlord’s head in an attempt to sever it from its body.
Fenn moved like a blur as it repeatedly attacked the Ogre’s body, serving as a distraction while its Master went for the killing blow.
However, the Ogre Warlord was not stupid. Its instincts honed in countless battles understood that the real threat was Jason.
And so, the moment Jason moved in for the kill, the Ogre Warlord was already waiting to counter-attack.
Just as Jason thought that he finally found the right moment to strike, disaster struck.
The Ogre Warlord moved its body to the side at the very last instant, barely evading Jason’s claws. Blood sprayed from its neck, but this injury did not pose any problem to the ogre.
It then swung its club to counter-attack while Jason was in mid-air.
Jason thought that he would be able to tank this blow due to the invincibility barrier that protected his body.
But the barrier fizzled out of existence at that exact moment.
Before Jason could even react to this sudden turn of events, the wooden club struck him dead center, sending him flying towards the mountain.
The Wolf Sovereign smashed against hard rock, coughing up blood before crashing toward the ground.
The Ogre Warlord then grabbed Jason’s body and slammed it to the ground. Then, as if still unsatisfied, it used its foot, intending to crush him into meat paste.
It was then that Fury, Ulric’s Dire Bear, lunged at the Ogre Warlord, activating its Gigantification effect.
Thankfully, it managed to push away the monster before it could deal the killing blow to the young man, who had already reverted to his original form.
At that moment, Jason lay unconscious on the ground, blood spilling from the side of his lips.
Nearly all the bones in his body were broken, which made Tianna, who saw his state from the fortress, jump off the mountain without hesitation.
A pair of wings similar to an eagle appeared behind her back, allowing her to descend from the mountain in haste.
This sight made Ragnar and Wayne understand that their sister had also come to the Aslan Tribe in disguise, just like their father.
Ragnar hurriedly descended the mountain, while Wayne attacked the Ogre Warlord with a bow and arrow.
They couldn’t allow their precious sister to face any danger. So, they supported the Dire Bear struggling to overpower the Ogre Warlord.
A few seconds later, the Ogre Warlord threw Fury toward the other monsters, which didn’t hold back in swarming it.
It then shifted its attention toward Tianna, who was crouched down beside Jason while desperately trying to come up with ways to save the life of her beloved.
Countless monsters continued to pour into the fortress like a black tide, climbing over the broken walls and the dead bodies of their brethren.
The Fireshard Catapults that had been abandoned blocked their path. Unfortunately, they too wouldn’t even last for more than a few seconds as the monsters started their rampage.
Though amidst the endless flood of monsters surging toward the fortress, a deafening roar thundered from beyond the broken wall.
Ivan, the Commander of the Darkmane Tribe’s Heavy Cavalry, had rallied the warriors of the Darkmane Tribe as he led the charge from the rear of the enemy monsters.
"Darkmane Tribe!" Ivan shouted. "Charge!"
At his command, the remaining warriors of the Darkmane Tribe whom Troy had saved earlier abandoned their fortress and charged fearlessly toward the monster army.
The Darkmane Lions roared in anger, lunging at the monsters with unrestrained fury.
Meanwhile, Ivan and the Darkmane Tribe’s heavy cavalry crashed against the rear of the monster formation like a battering ram. At that moment, their only purpose was to avenge their fallen chieftain and destroy all the monsters in their path!
