My Kingdom Building Done Right!

Chapter 335: The War Retold [Part 2]

The war scenes Leone had shown the Sandreaver Tribe highlighted the bravery of all the tribes in the Borderlands.

Just as he had previously done for Troy, he deliberately showcased Malik’s boldness and courage.

Of course, this also included the warriors who accompanied him in battle.

Leone even went as far as to allocate screen time to the battles of these individuals, showing everyone their bravery in the face of danger.

Unsurprisingly, the warriors who accompanied Malik in the Aslan Tribe were also in the plaza. Thanks to their movie cameos, their friends, families, and acquaintances couldn’t help but look at them in a new light.

Those who were still single found themselves being eyed favorably by several ladies. After all, barbarian women loved brave men.

Leone had already won the respect of these warriors after they had seen him lead his men to battle. But now, their favorability of him increased by leaps and bounds.

Some of them were even grinning from ear to ear, enjoying the praises being showered to them by their tribe.

There was a famous saying in the Borderlands.

"If you are respected by the warriors of your tribe, you are a true warrior. However, if you are respected by the warriors of other tribes, that means you are a warrior among warriors."

Leone wasn’t even a warrior. Yet, in the eyes of those who had been present in that great battle, he and Troy were living legends.

Daedalus not only wished for Leone to form a stronger connection with Malik, but also for the warriors of the Sandreaver Tribe to grow closer to him.

This way, even the Elders, who wielded significant power in the tribe, wouldn’t be able to do anything to him. Or at least they could try, but there would be consequences for antagonizing the young chieftain.

When the movie finally ended, all eyes landed on the young man, who had just finished talking to Malik.

Leone scanned the faces of everyone in the plaza, doing his best to remain calm despite the countless eyes of respect and admiration boring into his figure.

In order to hide his embarrassment, he decided to say something.

"What you all saw was real," Leone said calmly. "If not for everyone’s bravery that day, we might not be here, enjoying this feast with all of you.

"As the Chieftain of the Aslan Tribe, I would like to thank Malik, as well as the brave warriors of the Sandreaver Tribe. They have not only protected the Borderlands, but also ensured that there would be a bright tomorrow for everyone."

Malik raised his goblet at those words. "I hereby declare that from this day onward, the Aslan Tribe and the Sandreaver Tribe are allies! Together, we will stand side by side and protect our domains, strengthen our tribes, and build a future worthy of our descendants!"

A thunderous roar of approval reverberated in the plaza.

"To our alliance!" Malik shouted. "Cheers!"

"""Cheers!"""

The Elders who were in opposition looked around them, fully understanding that it was impossible to oppose the alliance that Malik had declared.

Should they try to oppose it, they would be seen as enemies of the entire tribe. On top of that, the influence they had cultivated over the years would vanish without a trace.

Leone and Malik’s momentum couldn’t be stopped anymore, so they only sat in silence while everyone around them continued to cheer.

’This is what you call winning the war without even drawing your blade once,’ Daedalus said through telepathy. ’Those old snakes are as good as silenced.’

’Indeed.’ Leone smiled faintly.

He was paying close attention to Rashid, and the old man couldn’t even meet his gaze straight on.

Now that everyone was in good spirits, the entertainers finally made their appearance.

Soon, beautiful ladies began to dance, with all of them throwing Leone meaningful glances as if telling him that he could not only look but also touch.

Leone could only smile—not as a response to them but as a reaction to Yuni’s hand on his waist.

He had a feeling that if he said a single word, made a single gesture, or even gave a single wink to the ladies, he would be sleeping on the floor tonight.

Malik laughed, for he could see what was happening under the table. Embarrassed, Yuni blushed and retracted her hand.

Only then could Leone finally sigh with relief. However, he still didn’t make a move to give the ladies any reason to approach him.

His tolerance for beautiful women had already increased after spending the nights with Yuni and Aria.

The feast lasted until late at night. However, Leone, Yuni, Brann, and Otto retired early.

Brann and Otto only drank a cup of wine each, making sure they wouldn’t get drunk.

After all, Leone’s safety was their priority, especially now that they were not in their territory.

"Rest tonight, Leone," Malik said. "Tomorrow before noon, I will take you to see our Guardian Deity."

Malik was already expecting that the exhaustion from the night’s festivity would cause Leone to wake up late in the morning.

"Thank you," Leone replied. "I’ll see you tomorrow, Malik. Good night."

"Good night." Malik nodded back before heading to the main residence.

The accommodation prepared for Leone, Yuni, Brann, and Otto was the residence meant for special guests.

It was heavily protected by warriors, ensuring no one could disturb Leone’s rest that night.

Once there, Brann and Otto went to their rooms, while Leone and Yuni shared a room.

Daedalus and Hassan left as always, but for different reasons.

Hassan would remain to guard Leone’s room, while Daedalus would sneak outside and explore the Sandreaver Tribe.

It had placed a mark on Rashid earlier, allowing him to know the Elder’s location.

With that, the grimoire made its way to Rashid’s house, confirming that the other members of the opposition had also gathered there.

’These old farts really don’t know when to give up,’ Daedalus thought as it positioned itself on the roof in order to eavesdrop on their conversation.

Yet, aside from hearing their complaints about Leone, none of the old men made any plans to harm the young chieftain.

He was now an ally of the Sandreaver Tribe, after all. Most importantly, he had already gained the backing of the masses. One wrong move, and things would turn ugly for these grumpy old men.

After listening for nearly two hours, the meeting finally ended. Soon, all the Elders returned to their respective homes.

They didn’t discuss anything worth noting. At most, they only warned each other not to offend Leone for the time being.

Suddenly, the grimoire felt someone... or something reach out to it from somewhere in the Sandreaver Tribe.

’It’s in that direction,’ Daedalus thought before flying stealthily to investigate what it was.

It flew for nearly half an hour in stealth, making sure the guards wouldn’t notice anything as it moved through the shadows of the dimly lit tunnels.

"You’re finally here."

Once it arrived, an ancient voice made its presence known.

Daedalus hovered beside the wall while staring at the creature lying on the ground. Their gazes then met.

"You called?" Daedalus spoke to the Earth Dragon through telepathy.

"I did," the Earth Dragon replied through telepathy as well. "I sensed a power that didn’t belong to the Sandreaver Tribe. Though, since it wasn’t hostile, I decided not to alert the guards about it."

Daedalus’ attention then moved toward the small nest right beside the Earth Dragon. At its center was a single dragon egg, which it believed was the same egg that hadn’t hatched for the past hundred years.

"Can you help it hatch?" the Earth Dragon asked, almost pleading.

"Can I take a better look at it?" Daedalus inquired.

"Please..." The Earth Dragon gave a brief nod.

The grimoire then flew toward the egg and opened its pages. A moment later, a gentle light descended upon the dragon egg, bathing it with warmth.

Daedalus was scanning the inside of the egg to see if the dragon inside it was still alive.

"You are using your own life force to sustain the egg, aren’t you?" Daedalus asked after it scanned the egg. "Since it refused to hatch, you are worried the dragon inside might die."

"Yes," the Earth Dragon replied. "And because of that, my life force is nearing its limit."

"No." Daedalus shook its body. "That’s half true at best. You are dying because you have sustained a serious injury.

"You must have fought a very powerful opponent in the past. Yet, instead of prioritizing your own regeneration, you directed your energy toward keeping this egg alive. That decision caused your health to degrade even further. Since your body can’t recover, and you are expending your life force on top of that, you are now nearing your limit."

Daedalus paused for a bit as it continued to observe the Earth Dragon, who kept its silence.

"If you don’t stop what you are doing, you’ll only have half a year left to live," Daedalus warned.

The Earth Dragon heaved a sigh at that. "I thought I still had at least two more years to live. Half a year sounds about right."

Yet, instead of worrying about itself, the Earth Dragon looked at the grimoire with a hopeful gaze.

"Can you help me hatch the egg?" the Earth Dragon asked.

"...That is not for me to decide," Daedalus replied. "Only my Master can answer your question."

"You are talking about that human child, Leone, right?" the Earth Dragon asked.

Even from its location, it could still see everything that was happening within the Sandreaver Tribe.

It also saw the battle that was shown in the projection.

The battle against the Monster King reminded the Earth Dragon of its own battle against the Monster King a hundred years ago.

It had been a brutal battle. But while it managed to win, a price had been paid in turn.

The Earth Dragon’s mate had died in that battle, and the egg she laid in her dying moments was the only legacy she had left behind.

The mother should be the one providing the life force to the egg to allow it to hatch. Unfortunately, this could no longer be done.

As such, the remaining Earth Dragon took it back to the Sandreaver Tribe and sustained it for the past hundred years. It thought that it would hatch after a few years, but the years became decades, and then the decades became a century.

Now, the Earth Dragon was dying, and yet... the egg still refused to hatch.

"I’ll return tomorrow with my Master," Daedalus said. "I will give him a briefing on the situation. But let me tell you this right now—making this egg hatch will be very hard."

"As long as there is a chance, I am willing to pay the price," the Earth Dragon replied.

"Then you better remember those words." Daedalus nodded. "I’ll see you tomorrow."

The grimoire didn’t return right away to the residence where Leone was staying.

Instead, it continued its exploration of the Sandreaver Tribe, trying to map the city and finding out more of its secrets while its master rested for the night.
