My Kingdom Building Done Right!

Chapter 344: I Am Going To Open It

"Are we back?" Leone asked as he looked around, taking in his surroundings.

He was a little worried about being sent to another unknown place after teleporting out of the Dragon’s nest.

Fortunately, the familiar room inside the temple assured him that they had indeed returned to the same place they had left a few hours ago.

Since Leone planned to take the temple with him back to the Aslan Tribe, that meant that he could visit the Dragon Nest again anytime he wanted to.

"Yes, we are inside the temple," Daedalus confirmed. "Arion, Boris, and the Sky Drake are outside."

The group then left the temple and prepared to depart. However, before they left, Leone asked Daedalus to store the temple inside its pages.

"Since this temple represents new beginnings, we can put it in the Aslan Tribe," Leone stated.

The barbarians worshiped the Earth Mother, so they already had plans to build a temple for her.

As for Eostre’s temple, Leone planned to enshrine her as a minor deity to whom people could also pray .

Of course, he needed to consult Kael first so that the new temple’s purpose would not clash with that of the Earth Mother’s.

Then again, the Earth Mother was associated with fertility, creation, motherhood, life, and rebirth.

On the other hand, Eostre, according to Daedalus, was associated with dawn and spring, which was why she was also regarded as the Goddess of New Beginnings.

Dawn marked the birth of a new day, while spring brought life back to the world after the long, cold winter.

With this, the two Goddesses didn’t clash with their respective virtues, allowing the Aslan Tribe to also worship Eostre without conflict.

Though Leone was still not aware that this endeavor of his to restore the forgotten deity’s influence would bring about unprecedented consequences in the future.

When the temple was safely stored inside Daedalus’ pages, the grimoire noticed something that made it hover close to Leone.

"What’s wrong?" Leone asked.

"I sense a strand of divinity in your body," Daedalus replied, circling the young man in its attempt to pinpoint where the faint strand of divinity was coming from.

A minute later, it hovered right beside Leone’s pocket.

"Leone... I think we have a problem," Daedalus said.

"What problem?" Leone asked.

"Check your pocket," Daedalus said. "The white box is inside ‌it."

"W-What?!" Leone looked at his right pocket in response, but didn’t dare to try to take out what was inside ‌it. "How did it get there? Didn’t we leave it behind in the Dragon’s nest?!"

"Calm down, Leone," Daedalus replied. "I think this box followed us of its own accord."

"Huh?" Leone blinked. "Is this box sentient like you, then?"

"Maybe." Daedalus shrugged. "But that’s the only conclusion I can think of right now. In any case, I am certain of one thing. That box isn’t Pandora’s Box."

"Pandora’s Box?" Leone frowned. "What’s that?"

"Another divine artifact," Daedalus answered. "It contains all the evils and miseries, which the Gods had placed inside ‌it. The moment that box was opened, all of those evils and miseries spread across the entire world. The only good thing that it brought humanity was Hope."

The grimoire then gave Leone a serious warning.

"You know what? Pandora’s Box and the box in your pocket are similar. The Gods told Pandora not to open the box, yet she still opened it due to her curiosity. So, whenever you have the urge to open that box, remember what happened to Pandora and the things she released ‌into the world."

After hearing that story, the urge to open the box was no longer inside Leone’s mind.

However, there was one problem.

How should he deal with this box?

If he threw it away, then someone else might open it by accident.

But if he kept it instead, then he had to look for a safe place to hide it.

Daedalus was unable to store it inside its pages, so there was always the danger of someone discovering it in the future.

For now, Leone decided that the safest place for the white box was inside his pocket, a place no one else could access but him.

"Let’s return to the Sandreaver Tribe," Leone said after finally calming down.

They now had the means to save both Lord Azar and the egg, so they could consider this mission a success.

Although they would be using a good portion of the Bronze Dragon’s blood in their possession, the treasures they received from the Dragon Nest could be considered payment for their losses.

The group traveled for a few hours before finally arriving at their destination.

When Malik was informed of their arrival, the chieftain hurriedly met up with them to inquire if they had found a way to save their Guardian.

"Yes, we found a way to save Lord Azar," Leone replied.

"Good! Good! Good!" Malik was ecstatic after hearing the good news. "The Sandreaver Tribe will never forget this debt, Leone. We will definitely repay you in the future!"

Leone nodded and accepted the chieftain’s promise.

They were then escorted to Lord Azar’s lair so that they would be able to start his recovery as soon as possible.

When they reached their destination, Leone asked Malik to leave to ensure no one would disturb him.

He had many secrets, after all. Although he and the chieftain were now on good terms, there were still some things that he didn’t want Malik to know.

The Chieftain of the Sandreaver Tribe didn’t bat an eye at Leone’s request, ordering his personal guards to block anyone from entering the Dragon’s lair.

He even personally stood guard as well so that no one, including the Elders, could use their authority to brute force their way in.

A few minutes after Malik and his men left, it was Lord Azar who spoke first.

"It seems that you have picked up the white box inside my nest," Lord Azar said calmly. "And from what I can see, you still haven’t opened it."

Thinking that it was now a good time to ask the Earth Dragon about the white box’s origin, Leone decided to throw caution to the wind.

"Lord Azar, what is this box and what is inside ‌it?" Leone asked.

"That’s a good question," Lord Azar replied. "To be honest, I don’t know what is inside that box. I just instinctively feel like it shouldn’t fall into the wrong hands."

"Then, how did you acquire it?"

"I saw a star falling from the sky two hundred years ago, which crashed not far from my nest. That is how I got it."

Leone blinked. "So you don’t know what is inside this box, and you just instinctively feel like it shouldn’t fall into the wrong hands. Is that the reason why you added that warning on the pedestal?"

"Exactly." Lord Azar nodded.

"So... does that mean that whatever is inside ‌this box is not harmful?" Leone inquired. "It will not suddenly send out a calamity to destroy the world, right?"

"Who knows?" Lord Azar shook its head in return. "All I know is that if it ever falls into the wrong hands, a calamity will be the least of our worries."

"Did you not even try to take a peek inside?" Leone asked out of genuine curiosity.

"No," Lord Azar replied without hesitation. "My senses were screaming at me not to open it, no matter what. That’s also why I placed so many defensive formations in my nest to prevent anyone from getting their hands on the box. But from what I see, it has fallen into your possession."

Leone didn’t say anything for a few minutes as if he was fighting an internal battle.

When he seemed to have finally come to a decision, he took the white box out of his pocket.

Lord Azar flinched after seeing the box. However, it made no move to tell Leone to put it away or not to open it.

As a Dragon, it knew that there were no coincidences in the world. Some things were meant to happen when the time was right.

It didn’t know if letting Leone open the box was the right or wrong decision.

However, it had been two hundred years since he had gotten the box that had fallen from the heavens.

Lord Azar had to admit that it was also very curious about the contents of the box.

Whether it would be a calamity or a boon, only Leone had the power to decide if he should open the box or not.

"I am going to open it," Leone said firmly.

No one there opposed him.

Not even Daedalus and Lord Azar said a word.

Soon, Leone placed his hand over the lid of the box, making everyone almost stop breathing due to the suspense.

"On second thought, I’ll open it later." Leone casually put the box back inside his pocket.

"""..."""

"What?" Leone blinked. "I just thought that letting Lord Azar recover and saving the egg should be our top priority right now. We can open the box after we save them. That way, if something terrible happens, we would have more helpers to deal with the problem at hand."

Everyone thought his reasoning was valid, so they no longer said anything.

Leone then asked Daedalus to take out the Legendary-Grade core that they found inside the Dragon’s nest.

When Lord Azar saw this, it looked at the core with a complicated expression.

Although it didn’t say anything, seeing the core reminded it of some bittersweet memories of what happened over two hundred years ago.
