Leone lit an incense stick after placing his offerings on the small altar he made in front of the statue in the Forgotten Temple.
The young man then pressed his hands together in prayer, asking the deity in front of him to continually bless the Aslan Tribe with a good harvest.
Although the plantations Leone had bought from the Arcane Shop were miraculous and defied the laws of nature, that didn’t mean he could skip being grateful for the bountiful harvest his tribe was blessed with.
Since the Goddess Eostre was the Goddess of Spring, Dawn, and New Beginnings, Leone made it a point to pray to her daily, asking her to continue watching over the Aslan Tribe.
While Daedalus had already confirmed that the temple no longer contained any traces of divinity, which meant that the Goddess might no longer be around, Leone didn’t care.
For him, it would be a win-win situation if they had another Goddess aside from the Earth Mother looking after their tribe.
Of course, he wouldn’t admit that the Goddess’ beautiful face was the reason why he prayed to her daily!
Seeing that their chieftain was paying homage to the Goddess, some of the children also started praying to her.
They even offered some fruits and vegetables that they picked from the plantations.
The wishes of the children were very simple.
Some of them wished to eat more delicious food.
Some wished to grow faster.
Others wished for more playmates.
Simple wishes, and yet, they still prayed for them to come true.
When Leone finished his prayer, he once again looked at the Goddess’ statue.
The statue had her arms spread wide, as if welcoming spring, or perhaps the dawn of a new day with a gentle smile on her face.
"Hey, Leone. Do you perhaps have a crush on this Goddess?"
The young man almost jumped up in fright after Tianna suddenly talked to him from behind.
"D-Don’t do that, Tia—Natalia!" Leone almost spoke her real name out loud due to his panic. "You almost gave me a heart attack!"
"Heh..." Tianna gave Leone a knowing smirk before shifting her attention to the statue of the Goddess.
Leone had called her earlier to ask if she could establish a connection with the Goddess Eostre through her connection with the Earth Mother.
Since the young chieftain was going all out to increase Jason’s chances of winning the tournament, she decided to accept his request.
"Can I touch the statue?" Tianna asked.
"Of course," Leone replied before moving aside to let the young lady pass.
Tianna then pressed her hand on the statue’s foot before closing her eyes.
She then prayed to the Earth Mother and asked her the question that Leone wished to be answered.
"Does the Goddess Eostre still exist in any form?"
Daedalus told him that the temple no longer exuded any traces of divinity. However, the grimoire didn’t say that the Goddess had ceased to exist.
A few minutes passed in silence before Tianna finally opened her eyes. At that point, beads of sweat had begun to form on her forehead, her face pale.
Leone immediately handed her a recovery potion, which Daedalus had crafted in abundance.
He didn’t pester her and simply waited for her to regain her strength and composure first.
"Thank you," Tianna said when her face had regained a bit of color. "The Earth Mother said she will answer your question since she is happy about your plan to make her the Patron Goddess of the Aslan Tribe. She also likes the statue you built for her at the center of the city."
The one who sculpted the statue of the Earth Goddess was Daedalus. Leone only asked the grimoire to make the statue look like she was about to embrace the fallen warriors of the Darkmane Tribe and the Aslan Tribe.
Though what Leone didn’t know was that Daedalus had created a statue that really looked like the Earth Mother.
Since the grimoire was a divine artifact, it had access to information that no ordinary mortal had access to.
The Earth Mother was a beautiful woman.
But in Leone’s eyes, she was truly like a mother who only cared for her children.
After all, she was the Goddess of the Earth.
The one who was said to have given life to all creatures in existence. For him, making her the Patron Goddess of the Aslan Tribe was as natural as breathing air.
The barbarians, Orcs, and even the other monster races worshiped her. If he were to force them to worship another God or Goddess, it might only make things awkward for everyone.
Leone waited for Tianna to tell him the truth about the Goddess Eostre. Though, deep inside his heart, he hoped that she was still alive somewhere.
"The Goddess Eostre is currently in deep sleep, preserving what little remains of her divinity," Tianna explained. "She is still worshiped as a Goddess of Harvest in scattered villages around the continent. However, as the years go by, her believers slowly decreased. And soon enough, she could no longer manifest or perform miracles."
"I see..." Leone patted his chest in response. This was not bad news for him. "I’m glad she still exists."
Tianna smiled faintly. "Leone, the Earth Mother wants me to pass a message to you. While she is a very understanding Goddess, the one you worship is a very jealous Goddess."
"Are you talking about Eostre?" Leone blinked.
"No." Tianna shook her head. "The Goddess you worship, Aine."
"Ah..." Leone didn’t know how to react to Tianna’s words.
The Goddess Aine was the Patron Goddess of the Radiant Empire.
She was the Goddess of Light who was said to bring light across the entire world.
Growing up in the Frontera Household, his mother, Helen, made sure that her children also prayed to the Goddess of Light.
In fact, she even jokingly said that they descended from the Goddess herself.
"Oh, come on, Tianna." Leone chuckled. "Why would Lady Aine be jealous of Eostre? The Goddess of Light is very loving and compassionate. She will not feel jealous over this... right?"
"Let me explain it to you in a way that you will understand, Leone," Tianna said calmly. "Imagine a beautiful lady looking after you as you grow up. She was the entire world to you. Then, one day, another beautiful lady shows up all of a sudden, and suddenly you only look in her direction.
"Naturally, the beautiful lady who has been with you since you were born would look at the other beautiful lady and say, ’Excuse me? I was here first!’ It’s like discovering her lover is cheating on her, while the man isn’t even planning to hide it."
Leone blinked once, then twice, before tilting his head in confusion. In his mind, he was just some insignificant mortal the Gods and Goddesses wouldn’t pay any attention to.
Though, for Tianna to say these things, he just couldn’t brush them off like it was all a bunch of nonsense.
"Oh, right. There’s one last thing that I forgot to tell you, Leone," Tianna said with a smile. "The Earth Goddess said that you should also pray to her from time to time. While she doesn’t need to become your Patron Goddess, she has still taken a liking to you."
After saying her words, Tianna patted Leone on the shoulder and told him good luck. As the Oracle of the Earth Mother, she knew that Leone wasn’t the insignificant mortal he thought he was.
She believed that he would do great things, and so the Gods were paying close attention to him.
"Daedalus, what should I do?" Leone asked telepathically, afraid the Goddesses were listening to him. "Is Tianna just pranking me or not?"
"I think she’s telling the truth," Daedalus replied. "But you don’t have to worry too much. Although Gods and Goddesses do exist, they can’t interfere with the mortal world whenever they please.
"If they could do that, then they would just personally descend to deal with the Demon Lords that wished to conquer the continent. However, since we don’t want to offend anyone, why not make the altar here just a little bigger? I can even put the statues of the Earth Mother and the Goddess of Light beside Eostre’s statue and be done with it."
Leone thought that this was a good idea. If he prayed to the three Goddesses at the same time, he believed that the Goddess of Light would no longer have a reason to become jealous of the sleeping Eostre.
Though what Daedalus didn’t tell him was that Eostre and Aine had a complicated relationship in the Celestial Realm.
It believed that this was something that Leone didn’t need to worry about for now. Plus, Daedalus had a feeling that even if it told its Master about it, nothing would change.
The young man would still pray to Eostre.
Not because she was beautiful. Leone simply pitied her.
When he saw the statue in the Forgotten Temple, he felt like he were looking at himself.
Someone who was exiled to a place far from home, all alone with no one to turn to.
Leone considered himself lucky in that regard.
After all, he had met Daedalus and the Alborin Tribe. They had given him a place to belong when he had nowhere else to go. Without them, he could only imagine how much harder his life would have been.
Perhaps that was why he felt compelled to help the Forgotten Goddess.
Her temple had been abandoned for decades, with her name nearly faded from the world.
If no one else remembered her, then she would truly cease to exist.
That thought alone made Leone feel an ache in his chest that he couldn’t understand.
After giving the statue one last glance, Leone turned around and left the Forgotten Temple, returning to his duties as the Chieftain of the Aslan Tribe.
’Don’t worry, Eostre,’ Daedalus thought. ’Knowing Leone, he will make the impossible possible.’
With his back turned toward the statue, the young chieftain didn’t see the single tear that fell from the beautiful statue’s face.
Only Daedalus noticed it, but the grimoire didn’t say anything.
The young man was already carrying many responsibilities on his shoulders.
With that, the grimoire didn’t want Leone to meddle with the Gods and Goddesses of the world for now, who were all starting to pay attention to him.
