My Kingdom Building Done Right!
Chapter 359: Bloodline Suppression [Part 1]Leone stood on top of the cliff, silently looking down at Stoneguard Fortress.
From where he stood, he could clearly see the fortress city erected between the Kingdom of Britannia and the Borderlands.
It was a formidable fortress.
Its walls were thick, its towers were tall, and the surrounding terrain made it difficult for an invading army to approach without being noticed.
From the looks of it, this fortress was made to withstand a monster stampede, ensuring it wouldn’t reach the central regions of the Kingdom of Britannia.
However, Leone wasn’t interested in attacking the fortress.
Or at least, not yet.
Instead, his real target was the army that would soon leave Stoneguard Fortress.
The Britannian Army he once admired from afar.
According to the information they had gathered, a massive army numbering around fifty thousand or more would assemble inside the fortress in the future.
Once they were ready, they would march south toward the Borderlands like a giant tide that would be very hard to block.
’If we fight them head-on, we’ll lose without a doubt,’ Leone thought. ’What we need to use is guerrilla tactics.’
However, Leone knew that the Britannian Army would be led by a very powerful general, as well as commanders that were just as strong, perhaps even stronger than Logan, who was the Chieftain of the Ravage Tribe.
If the Britannian Army were weak, they would have already been defeated by the Radiant Empire and the Barbarian King to the west.
The fact that they could still maintain their sovereignty proved that they were not an easy opponent.
Unfortunately, Leone had to face this massive army on his own.
Unlike the Darkmane Tribe, who mostly had land units, the Kingdom of Britannia was famous for its flying battalion.
Leone couldn’t help but smile wryly. From what he remembered, this famous battalion was composed of Gryphon Riders.
Yes, Gryphons.
And who was the Guardian Deity of the Aslan Tribe?
Astravor, who was now a Garuda Gryphon.
When Leone told Daedalus about this famous Aerial Battalion, the grimoire sounded very intrigued. Though, instead of worrying like Leone, it thought that this was the perfect opportunity to acquire some free-flying mounts.
"Nice. Free mounts." Daedalus chuckled evilly. "Let’s get as many as we can!"
The young man blinked once, then twice, after hearing Daedalus’ words.
If he remembered correctly, the commander of the Gryphon Riders was a very strong individual.
Unfortunately, he didn’t know the specifics of the commander’s strength. Daedalus could show him his Status Page, but only if the grimoire could get close enough.
Nevertheless, he believed that the commander was at least as strong as Logan.
"Leone, remember this," Daedalus said in a serious tone. "When monsters of the same race fight, those who have a superior lineage will have an advantage over those with an inferior bloodline."
"In fact, this advantage isn’t limited to their physical strength. Their bloodline can also create a natural pressure that suppresses those with weaker bloodlines."
Leone’s eyes narrowed at those words. "Bloodline suppression?"
"Yes." Daedalus nodded. "It is something that exists naturally among monsters. The stronger the bloodline, the greater the pressure it can exert upon those beneath it. Let’s take the wolves for example.
"The Alpha Wolf leads the pack. If another wolf appears to challenge the reigning Alpha and wins the battle, they would then become the new Alpha Wolf."
The grimoire paused for a moment before continuing.
"With that in mind, if an ordinary Gryphon were to encounter a higher-ranked Gryphon with a superior bloodline, they would instinctively feel fear. Its body may become tense, its movements may become sluggish, and its combat instincts may even be affected. It’s like a commoner facing a King. They would feel reverence towards that person, but also feel intimidated in their presence."
"So it’s like an intimidation aura?" Leone rubbed his chin. "Like Dragon Fear, right?"
"Something similar." Daedalus agreed with Leone’s reply. "But this is more fundamental. Intimidation can be resisted through sheer willpower. Bloodline pressure is different. It affects the body and instincts of the weaker creature, just like the example I gave you about a wolf leading a pack."
Leone narrowed his eyes, perfectly understanding what Daedalus was talking about.
"Then..." Leone eyed the grimoire hovering in front of him. "If Astravor is nearby..."
Daedalus chuckled in response. "Those Gryphons would have a very difficult time fighting against it."
Leone couldn’t help but smile. Astravor was no longer an ordinary Gryphon.
After surviving the Monster Stampede, it had undergone another evolution and became a Garuda Gryphon, reaching Rank 6 in the process.
Even Leone didn’t know exactly how powerful the Garuda bloodline was.
Though if the bloodline of the Garuda Gryphon truly was superior to that of ordinary Gryphons, then it was the perfect counter against the Britannian Aerial Battalion.
Heck, if Leone was lucky, the Gryphons would lose all will to fight against them and might even change sides during the battle!
However, the young man still had more questions to ask.
"Would the effect still work if Astravor isn’t attacking them?" Leone inquired.
"Yes," Daedalus replied. "As long as the distance isn’t too great, the bloodline pressure will still affect them. Though the stronger the bloodline of the target, the less effective the suppression will be.
"Since they are also being led by a commander, this means that the Gryphon leading them to battle has a superior bloodline. However, I doubt their bloodline is better than Astravor’s."
Daedalus didn’t mention that although Astravor’s Monster Grade was of the Legendary Rank on its status page, its real rank was actually Mythical Rank.
If so, why was the grade displayed on its Status Page only that of a Legendary Grade?
It was because Astravor’s evolution wasn’t complete!
When the Gryphon revived, it didn’t have the time to fully consolidate its strength.
The Aslan Tribe had been facing serious danger at the time, so it forced itself to fight while in the middle of upgrading its grade to Mythical.
Although Astravor would still become a Mythical Grade Beast in the future, Daedalus believed that the Gryphon still needed a month to fully complete its transformation.
This was why it was spending most of its time sleeping—its body was still finishing its evolution during its state of rest.
The only reason this upgrade was being delayed was due to Boris, who was always annoying Astravor whenever an opportunity arose!
Somewhere in Grimjaw Mountain...
Boris landed on the peak of the mountain and saw its friend napping like always.
The Drake Sovereign had just finished playing with the Dread Wyverns, as well as bullying the Pteranodons that were minding their own business.
It then moved cautiously towards the Gryphon, fully knowing that Astravor didn’t like to be woken up from its sleep.
But who was Boris?
It was the number one troublemaker in the Aslan Tribe!
It even reached out to pick up one of the stones that were piled up beside Astravor, which the Gryphon used to throw at Boris’ head whenever it was bored.
However, the tables had turned!
Boris now had the stone in its hand and was about to get its revenge when one of Astravor’s eyes snapped open.
The Garuda Gryphon’s gaze was so intense that Boris dropped the stone in its hand.
A moment later, it growled pitifully as if saying, "Hey! I was just joking! No need to be angry!"
It then lay down beside Astravor and cozied up to the Gryphon, who was very tempted to kick the living sh*t out of the stupid lizard.
Even so, Astravor had already considered the annoying Boris as its friend. Out of all the monsters in the Aslan Tribe, the Drake Sovereign was the only one that dared to approach it.
In the end, the Gryphon closed its eyes to return to its rest. Seeing that the worst-case scenario had finally passed, Boris felt its courage return. With that, it hugged the Gryphon like a hug pillow before it, too, took a nap.
Astravor kept its eyes closed throughout all that while sighing internally. It knew that trying to teach Boris to leave it alone was a losing battle.
In the end, it chose to compromise.
As long as the stupid lizard didn’t do anything reckless to disturb its rest, it would not kick it off the mountain.
Before long, the Gryphon once again fell into deep slumber.
It instinctively knew that its body was still in the process of growing stronger. The moment it properly consolidated its strength...
It would become a Rank 7 Monster, truly becoming the Guardian Beast of the Aslan Tribe that would protect it until its dying breath.
