Brent stood at the center of the city and looked at the statue of the Earth Mother, which towered above the two monuments of the Darkmane and the Aslan Tribe.
Like Leone, he had been exiled from the place where he grew up. This led him to Grimjaw Mountain, where the Aslan Tribe lived.
The young man was only in his mid-twenties, and yet, he was forced to shoulder the responsibility of caring for the people who remained loyal to him.
They followed him to the Aslan Tribe, hoping this new land would show them mercy and give them a place they could call their new home.
Truth be told, Brent and his people had already expected the Aslan Tribe to ridicule and humiliate them once they arrived in their domain.
Yet, what they received was warmth and hospitality.
The houses they lived in were better than the ones they had back in the Bonegnash Tribe.
They were also well-fed, allowed to eat as much bread as they wanted every day.
The Drakes, who regularly patrolled the city, looked fierce.
However, the children of the Bonegnash Tribe learned early on that although these monsters looked fierce and intimidating, they were actually very gentle to children.
Sometimes, their riders would even allow the children to ride on the backs of their Drakes and accompany them during their patrol of the city.
Leone didn’t look down on them.
He didn’t treat them harshly.
Nor did he trample on their honor and dignity.
Instead, he allowed them to retain their tribe’s honor, recognizing them as allies.
As a friendly gesture, the young man had even bestowed the Pteranodon Tyrant on Brent, which caught him off guard.
Although he didn’t want to admit it, he didn’t want this place, which already felt like a second home to him, to fall into ruin.
"Should I take a leap of faith?" Brent muttered as she stared at the statue of the Earth Mother. "Great Mother... what should I do?"
The statue didn’t give him the answer he was looking for. She simply stood with her arms spread wide, as if to embrace the two monuments into her bosom, welcoming them lovingly into her arms.
Suddenly, Brent felt someone or something walk up to him.
When he looked to his side, he saw the Great Pudge, Porkchop, standing by his side while looking at the monument of the Aslan Tribe.
"Good day, Porkchop." Brent greeted the pig, who usually patrolled the city and played with the kids of the Bonegnash Tribe from time to time.
*Oink!*
"Where is your Master?" Brent asked.
*Oink!*
"I see."
Actually, Brent had no idea what Porkchop was saying.
Though, since the Great Pudge seemed to understand him and replied to his words, he felt that it was fine to chat with him regardless of whether he understood the pig or not.
"Say, Porkchop. Do you love this place?" Brent asked before patting the head of the pig, who didn’t shy away from humans.
The Great Pudge nodded. *Oink!*
"I’m sure you do," Brent agreed. "It is a beautiful place."
The young man then saw a few squirrels climbing the statue of the Earth Mother before putting some nuts in her hands as if giving her an offering.
These squirrels were a regular sight within the city, jumping from the roofs of houses as if they owned the place.
Although they were small, they looked so free that seeing them running around made Brent smile despite his worries.
A moment later, a shadow passed over the young man, making him look up.
At that moment, circling the statue of the Earth Mother was none other than the Pteranodon Tyrant, which Leone had bestowed upon him as a gift.
After circling the statue a few times, it landed a few meters away from Brent. This creature was not only a powerful monster, but also a symbol of Leone’s trust in him.
"Would you like to become one of my vassals?"
Leone had given him this offer in private after their meeting ended yesterday.
Becoming the young chieftain’s vassal would let him hold a high position within the Aslan Tribe, ensuring that the Bonegnash Tribe would continue to prosper under his watch.
Leone didn’t ask the Bonegnash Tribe to merge with them.
Instead, he decided to treat them as an ally, just like he did with the Ravage Tribe and the Red-Scale Tribe.
When Brent shared this information with the Elders who had accompanied him, they only said that whatever decision he made, they would follow it without fail.
"What to do?" Brent muttered.
The opportunity was right before him.
And yet, he felt a little hesitant to accept it fully.
First, he felt that if he accepted Leone’s offer, he would gain something, yet also lose something in exchange for the position of power.
Second, he couldn’t help but think of the future.
He was supposed to revive the Bonegnash Tribe and restore it to its former glory, but this dream of his seemed impossible right now.
However, whenever he saw Leone, he couldn’t help but be inspired.
After all, the young man had been exiled to the Borderlands with only the clothes on his body.
Then, he became an important figure in less than a year, becoming the chieftain of one of the most powerful tribes in the Borderlands.
It was a miracle of sorts.
One that wouldn’t be easily replicated even if someone spent decades chasing that dream.
"Porkchop, if Leone were to ask you to become his vassal, would you accept it?" Brent asked the pig, who had laid down on the ground as if planning to take a nap at the Plaza of the Brave.
Porkchop didn’t reply immediately. It only swayed its tail as if pondering over how it should answer the young man’s question.
A minute later, it gave its reply.
*Oink!*
"Follow my heart?"
*Oink!*
"I see."
Once again, Brent didn’t understand the pig’s response. But for some reason, he felt that his interpretation of Porkchop’s reply right now was spot on.
Suddenly, the Pteranodon Tyrant, who was listening silently from the side, raised one of its massive wings to shield its Master from the rays of the sun.
*Oink!*
Porkchop lazily called out to the Pteranodon, asking to also sleep under the shade of its wings.
The Pteranodon Tyrant glanced at the pig and then moved its wings a bit so that both its Master and the pig would be shielded from the sun.
"Right. I still haven’t given you a name, right?" Brent looked at his new friend, who nodded its head in confirmation.
Brent thought for a while before finally coming to a decision.
"Damon," Brent said with a smile. "From now on, your name will be Damon."
The Pteranodon Tyrant looked pleased with its new name, even using its massive beak to playfully nudge the side of Brent’s body.
The young man chuckled and patted its beak in return, strengthening their bond of friendship.
Brent then stared off into the distance, to where the residences of the Bonegnash Tribe were located.
There, he saw the banner of his tribe flutter in the breeze, reminding him that he wasn’t alone.
He then shifted his attention to the banners of the Aslan Tribe and the Ravage Tribe, who stood as equals on the great wall that led to the Aslan Tribe’s fortress.
It was then that Brent finally came to a decision.
A decision that would not only change his life, but also the destiny of the Bonegnash Tribe, which had lost its home due to the decision of their former chieftain.
