My Life as an Awoken

Samantha and I watched the whole thing in silence until she asked, "Is that all?"

I replied, "Kind of under whelming, huh."

She sighed, then said, "Well, if that’s all. Then I’m leaving."

"Yup, I’ll see ya if I see ya."

With that, she walked out and left.

I sat there still taking it all in. I was hoping that I would feel better, but I don’t. I thought this would be more jovial. A real triumphant moment of revenge.

But, I only feel a little lighter. Like the weight has been lifted a little. Like I still have more to do.

I sat there watching Tyrell’s body smoke and smolder, never really catching on fire.

It seems like even after death an awakener’s body keeps some of its abilities.

That is an interesting piece of information. I wonder if you could transplant body parts to gain abilities?

That’s a rather dark thought, I should stay away from those.

But, what should I do now?’

Then, I got a phone call.

I answered, "Hello?"

"Hello. Is this Mr. Elijah Ambrose?"

"Yes, it is."

"Thats great. I was calling in regards to Ms. Layla Adrienne’s trust. I need to meet with you for the will and trust reading."

"Oh, ok. Do I need to meet you with the rest of her family?"

"No, I just finished telling them that Ms. Layla Adrienne left them nothing, but a letter. I can come meet you, wherever you are."

"Ok. I’m at ..."

"Understood I will be there shortly."

A while later a middle aged man who was just as skinny as I arrived. After the small talk and showing him to the car show room, where we would talk. Because that is the cleanest and nonincriminating warehouse.

I understand that the two of you already had a contract in regards to ownership rights, but this is for all of the distribution of assets that would have arisen from the profits.

In the time you were away she also took the liberty to create a sales contract with another agency and manufacturer for one of her designs.

The contract is in regards to a jet engine she created. The other contracted parties are the Department of Defense and Ms. Aerial’s family.

The DoD has programs for future tech development that awards large amounts of money.

Ms. Layla has partnered with Ms. Aerial’s family to chase the awards and investments.

Ms. Aerial’s family provided the current technology to Ms. Layla for her to study and use. In exchange, Ms. Layla had to use their family’s manufacturing for whatever she developed. The agreed upon profit distribution was 70% for Ms. Layla and 30% for Ms. Aerial’s family.

Jet engines currently cost the DoD anywhere from $20 million to $30 million per engine.

Now the DoD is willing to invest up to $16 billion in advanced next-generation engine technology. For next generation, sixth generation fighter prototypes, the DoD has raised individual award ceilings to $3.5 billion.

Overall, Ms. Layla has qualified for both the investment and the award. In light of her death the investment was going to be lowered from the initial $10 billion down to $1 billion. But, because of recent events they are willing to pay the full $10 billion for the designs, as well as the full award price of $3.5 billion.

So the cumulative amount is $13.5 billion or $13,500,000,000 with all taxes waived.

The only thing left is the letter she left for you."

Once he finished his piece he handed over a few folders full of documents.

He then said, "There are a few documents you need to sign then I will leave to go file them."

"Ok what documents specifically."

After that I got into signing the handover documents. Then came the documents for the DoD.

The man said, "I understand that you have your own concerns for how your company handles its affairs, however the DoD has been hounding me to get them signed."

I asked, "Has people’s awakening of powers caused that much of a problem? I thought it was only a few people?"

"I guess you haven’t been keeping up with the news. Around 2 Tuesdays people started awakening powers, but it was only a minor amount. However, the most recent Tuesday the rate of awakening spiked. Now, like a million people have awakened in our country alone. But, no one knows the exact number.

So, far things have been normal with only the occasional person going delusional. But, the government doesn’t know how long that will last. So, they are bolstering their defenses as much as they can."

"Hmm. I see. Then I will sign them now."

"Thats a good idea. Everything is already signed, it just needs your signature."

After signing he quickly left, almost running to his car.

Now I have a lot more to worry about. But this could also be an opportunity. What kind of opportunity is the question.

I have two main ideas for ways to progress.

The first is to try and start an Awakeners Association. I would have to collaborate with the government, but I would make an organisation to gather all of the awakeners data. Basically they would get another form of ID.

The ID would have the usual stuff that is on your drivers license. But it would also have ability type and power ranking. This would help keep track of abilities, to study them, or find out who might have committed a crime using their powers.

Overall it’s a good idea, but do I want to be a part of that?

The other idea is similar, but instead of an association that works in the public eye. I create something more shadowy and mysterious.

The idea is basically the same, but there won’t be ID cards being issued, and the data won’t be collected willingly.

Basically I will use AI and hacking to gather tons of data on all abilities around the world. To catalog and study them. I imagine that will have some benefits down the road. But the main point is on the data collection.

I can sell pieces of data, but that isn’t the main point. The point is that in a world of super powers having lots of information is valuable and it can keep you safe.

Plus, we know that there is a way to make an awakener stronger. If I can find that out, that might be the main method here.

Call myself something like the Heavenly Tower or Heavenly Library, then sell the way to become stronger for each ability.

Hmm. But if the way becomes public or it is all the same, then that won’t last long.

Oh! Or I could destroy all AI in the world and then force them to use mine? That’s a thought.

Sigh. The first one is more thought out, but I really want to go with the second.
