My Life as an Awoken

With the creation of the awakeners association came the new jobs that awakeners could get.

Those being Hunter, Guard, and Support.

Hunters are people that act like the typical adventurer in any story. You can take jobs at the association for either killing monsters or using their abilities. That can be for companies that want monster parts or need the specific use of a skill.

Guards are a part of the government’s power. They are the police and military. What’s interesting is that for most countries they allow their guards to be hunters in their free time to earn extra money.

Supports are any awakeners that have more utility powers. Like healing, construction, or anything else non combat related.

To be clear, all of them are a part of the awakener’s association, they just play different roles. Hunters go outside of the city or town. Guards stay inside the city or town to protect the ordinary people. Supports do not usually participate in combat and take on jobs that use their powers to support society.

Like a healer working as a doctor, or a construction worker that uses their abilities. While Hunter and Guard are clear jobs, Support is more of a category.

After being on the computer for two and a half hours, Xue Qing came out of the room.

She walked up to me and asked, "Hey, good morning. Has anything interesting happened?"

I replied, "Not really. I was looking into how the awakeners’ associations were functioning."

"Are they functioning as they should? What about the Purple Lotus Treasury? Is our company functioning properly?"

The Purple Lotus Treasury was the name of our company. The name I originally wanted to call it was the Vault of the Purple Lotus. But, Xue Qing gave her suggestion and I was convinced instantly.

The main thing the business is currently doing is gathering data on monsters and sending the information to the awakeners association of each country. That way the hunters can effectively kill the monsters and if monsters are in the city or are heading that way, then the guards get a heads up.

Overall we have prevented a large amount of monster related deaths. We have also sent the location and information of criminals, which is also a big help.

Because of this we have gathered a large amount of good will and amassed a large following. People from every country are praising the Purple Lotus Treasury.

The purple lotus symbolizes enlightenment. For a company that holds all of the world’s knowledge, I think it is a pretty appropriate name.

Faced with Xue Qing’s questions I answered, "Yep, everything is working almost as intended."

"Almost?"

"Yeah. There are already signs of corruption showing up. Managers of the awakeners association playing favorites and giving priority to people in their factions.

I haven’t done anything about it yet. I don’t know how each country would like to handle it. They each have their own ways of dealing with these kinds of things and I don’t want to deal with any political nonsense."

"Sigh. Well, it was always a matter of when, not if. But, they are already showing signs of corruption? It has barely even been a month, if that for most countries.

Humanity really is strange. I was expecting a lot more greedy and power hungry people. But oddly enough out of all of the awakeners the majority are on the better side. Most people want to continue their current lives, or at most make them better.

But, they won’t break the law or commit bad deeds to make that money. It seems that either humans are more kind than I thought or they haven’t gotten powerful enough to fulfill their fantasies."

"My bet is on both. They don’t want to sow misery but they do want power and everything that comes with it."

"Maybe. We will have to see."

"Well, I have gotten enough experience to upgrade this thing. Do you want to see it?"

"Oh! Yeah! What is upgrading?"

"Um, the computer?"

"Yeah, but like the whole silo is the computer. Everything from the computer parts to the cooling and power mechanisms are there. So, what specifically is upgrading?"

"Huh. You know what. I don’t know. Maybe the whole thing? That would be my guess."

Xue Qing thought for a moment then said, "Alright, everyone! I want you to gather all hands and be at their stations in 10 minutes!"

I realized that I couldn’t upgrade the computer from here, so we had to walk to the silo. When we were leaving Xue Qing left a few more instructions to make sure everyone was paying attention.

When we arrived at the entrance to the silo I stopped to see if I could just touch the outside to upgrade it. When I placed my hand on the concrete surface the usual blue screen popped up.

Since I upgraded the computers by touching the case, it was the same case here. When I looked back at Xue Qing she gave me a small nod. With that, I hit upgrade.

With a brilliant flash of blue light the entire silo was upgraded.

This was the second strongest computer in the world, the only one that topped it was built for research purposes. Which means that this is the strongest functional computer in operation.

The upgrade brought the qubit count from 1,100 up to 2,200. The computer could already handle all of the world’s information. Now, it was so far beyond what I could comprehend that I didn’t even know what it could possibly be capable of.

Maybe it could even tell us how the universe was created.

The supercomputer components were already top tier supercomputer parts. They, just like the quantum computer part, went beyond what I could comprehend. How do you make sense of the difference between these things?

A computer that can calculate 1 thing extremely fast, now can go even faster.

All of the other parts also got better. The cooling system got more precise and efficient. The power system followed along. The entire 9 floor computer got upgraded becoming much better than anything the world could have imagined at this time.
