My Life as an Awoken

With my head back and my eyes closed my mind could only focus on the sounds Xue Qing made.

I could hear the swish of the water as she entered and she moved closer. I could feel the movement of the water brushing against my skin.

Eventually she settled next to me. She said with a cheeky grin I could hear on her voice, "There’s no need to be so embarrassed, we’re both in a swimsuit."

I responded indignantly, "I’m not embarrassed. I’m just resting my eyes."

"That’s what you say..." as she said that she leaned in and whispered into my ear, "but I can see you blushing~. So cute~."

"I’m not cute. Stop teasing me."

"You are, and I won’t. Because I like watching you squirm."

"Well, I don’t have to sit here and take it." I got up to leave the hot spring but she grabbed my arm.

"Alright alright, I’ll give you a break. Sit down. I’ll feel bad if you can’t enjoy the hot spring."

"Sigh, fine."

I sat back down and was able to enjoy the hot spring for a brief few minutes of silence. That was until Xue Qing said, "You know, you don’t have to resist so much. I’m not going to do something against your will."

"I don’t think you will. It’s just, I don’t know. I just don’t know what to do with those kinds of feelings. That’s just how they come out. I don’t know how to express myself like that, like there are walls preventing me from doing so."

She reached over and held my hand, then said, "Then I guess I will have to work on breaking those walls down."

Afterward, we enjoyed the warm hot spring holding hands until we got out.

The next day was uneventful. We didn’t have anything to do, so we spent the day enjoying the nice weather in the courtyard. However, the weather turned stormy in the afternoon. The dark storm clouds brought about an afternoon thunder storm that lasted throughout the night.

The next morning was overcast and drizzling. Today we had to hear Mr. Li’s decision and sign the sales contracts, assuming he gives us a favorable decision.

As it was time to leave we gathered our things, then got into the car. We had a convoy of 3 cars, the first and last car had 5 bodyguards each. Our car had 2 bodyguards, a driver and one in the passenger seat.

In the car we pulled out of the area we were staying and made our way to the corporate building.

As we were entering the general area of the building we were turning left at an intersection when the first car was T-boned. It was hit hard, the car spun and then flipped.

Our diver was quick to slam the brakes but another car clipped the front of our car, ripping the entire engine out and spinning us around.

Before I could even realize what had happened a fire fight broke out.

The pops of gun fire erupted on the street. I could hear them whacking against the bullet proof windows and reinforced metal doors. I quickly grabbed Xue Qing and pulled her down. Then I used my glasses to activate the VTOL drones I brought with us.

The airfield was a short drive away, for my drones they would be here within the minute. I hacked into the surrounding camera feeds and got a clear look at what was happening.

Some unidentified hit squad was attacking us. They had 30 people, they seemed trained, at least mostly so. Some of them clearly had abilities.

For our side, the rear car was already cleared out and they were returning fire. The first car that was upside down had a few guys crawling out amidst a rain of bullets whizzing past. They had some cuts and bruises but seemed alright overall.

I didn’t know who was attacking us. But I knew one thing, I was pissed. Whoever had dared to attack us would pay a painful price.

Our guys were using the bullet proof cars as cover to return fire. But the other side had a clear advantage in both numbers and gear. Our guys had handguns and a bulletproof vest. While the other side had full armor and machineguns.

Not to mention ability users. The ability users were a big guy, he was like 7 feet tall and built like a tank. The bullets were just falling off of him, not doing any damage at all, as he made his way closer. He was walking like an arrogant god, completely invincible.

The second was of course a fire user. Another fucking fire user. He was using the heat of the fire to deflect the bullet trajectory.

The last was an earth user who was making cover for the others.

As the fire fight went on people were quickly falling on both sides. A lucky bullet would find its target and a person would drop like a puppet who had its strings cut.

A guy on our side was caught on fire and his screams rang out driving despair into the other bodyguards.

However this was music to the big guy. He laughed out loud as he made his way leisurely over. That was until his chest caved in and his spine exploded out the back.

One of my drones hit their target, the center of the big guy’s chest, right on his heart.

I had 3 drones and I had all of them target the ability users first.

The fire user was hit in his side at the waist. He was split in half, he was able to scream, cry, and crawl a short distance while his entrails dragged behind him before he died.

The earth ability user didn’t even know what happened. His head just exploded, dropping him onto the asphalt.

With the 3 ability users dead the tide turned in our favor. Morale is a powerful thing, and the unknown is extremely fearful. With them not knowing how their strongest died it was a swift turn.
