My Skills Can Evolve Infinitely in a Game-Like World
Chapter 127: Stat FruitsIt was a scepter made of oak. Some leaves were still growing along its surface, while a green emerald was embedded at its top.
Dryad’s Scepter—the Elite Relic Aurelius had discovered in the nest of the Goblin Warlock. It was the only one of its kind Aurelius had ever obtained.
More importantly, it was one of the few auxiliary Relics in his possession.
Rebirth. Fruition. Pathfinder.
None of these three abilities could be used in combat.
Even so, this didn’t mean that the Relic was useless.
Every single one of these abilities was extremely valuable and had great potential.
The one Aurelius was currently focused on was other than Fruition.
’Fruition—the user can ’feed’ the Scepter extraordinary materials, giving birth to extraordinary fruits that can enhance their Base Stats.’
Its description flashed briefly in his mind. It was the ability that piqued his interest the most among the tree. Base Stats were a large part of an Awakener’s strength and the most fundamental one, after all.
Now, it was time for Aurelius to test it.
He focused on the System Inventory once more. As his mind stirred, the corpse of a small mouse appeared beside him.
A Level 12 monster. Nothing particularly valuable to the current him.
Yet as Aurelius raised the Dryad’s Scepter and brought it closer to the monster, his eyes flashed with expectation.
Spirit flowed into the Relic. A green brilliance erupted from the emerald, extending toward and wrapping around the mouse.
Then...
There was no intense reaction. The mouse simply disappeared, as though it had never existed.
In response, one of the tiny branches supporting the leaves on the Scepter became longer.
A small green fruit was born, growing larger at an extraordinary speed.
Moments later, it had ripened, falling from the Scepter like an apple falling from a tree.
Aurelius reached out and caught it before it could hit the ground.
He glanced at the green fruit, Alchemist’s Touch informing him of its value the moment he came into contact with it.
The description that appeared only further reinforced that notion.
...
[Agility Fruit: Born from the corpse of an agility-based monster, it can increase Base Stats upon consumption.]
[Effects:]
[+2 AGI at Rank 1]
[+1 AGI at Rank 2]
...
It worked!
The Relic’s description had not lied!
The fruits born from extraordinary resources could indeed provide a stat enhancement upon consumption.
Although the increase was small and became weaker the stronger the Awakener was, every Base Stat increase was welcome!
Aurelius focused on the Agility Fruit.
Thinking about how it had grown from the corpse of a rat, he felt somewhat strange. But he soon shook his head.
’The rat and the fruit have nothing to do with each other. The corpse only became a catalyst, providing the energy for the fruit to be born.’
’It’s not like it was born out of the monster.’
It was unknown whether this was his true thought or whether he was merely trying to convince himself.
Either way, Aurelius no longer hesitated.
He tossed the Agility Fruit into his mouth with a flick of his finger.
The moment it entered his mouth, the Agility Fruit broke down into liquid. It moved down his throat before flowing toward the rest of his body.
Aurelius sensed a warm current rapidly course through him.
When it disappeared a moment later, a prompt flashed to inform him about the changes it had caused.
[Consumed Agility Fruit. AGI +1]
The prompt and the change in the Player Panel fully confirmed the validity of the claim.
The Dryad’s Scepter could indeed give birth to fruits that could enhance his Base Stats.
Though expected, the realization caught Aurelius off guard.
This ability was perhaps even more valuable than the Moonlight Potion.
The Moonlight Potion could only be consumed by Rank 1 Awakeners. Fruition, on the other hand, was useful even to Awakeners at Rank 2.
Moreover, it could play a similar role when it came to the Players.
Gacha Potions. Gacha Fruits.
An idea took root in Aurelius’ mind. He felt that he had discovered yet another way to exploit the Players.
Of course, his mind didn’t dwell on these matters for long. This was a matter for later.
His focus shifted back to reality.
He glanced at the Dryad’s Scepter, and then at the many pieces of garbage he had accumulated over his journey, and didn’t hold back.
With a thought, a green glow erupted from the Scepter, enveloping the extraordinary resources.
The Dryad’s Scepter began to tremble.
Fruit after fruit was born on it, soon falling into Aurelius’ grasp.
Agility Fruit. Strength Fruit. Vitality Fruit. Intelligence Fruit.
There was a fruit for everything—save for his Luck and Spirit.
By the end, when the final item was absorbed by the green light, dozens of fruits lay in front of Aurelius.
They each had a different color based on their function.
Green for Agility. Blue for Intelligence. Red for Strength.
Aurelius slowly divided them into different categories.
Then, he started to consume them one after another.
[Consumed Strength Fruit. STR +1]
[Consumed Intelligence Fruit. INT +1]
[Consumed ...]
A torrent of notifications flooded his vision.
His strength soared, as though he had undergone several Level upgrades at once.
By the time the last fruit was consumed, every single one of his Base Stats had increased by dozens.
Unfortunately...
’This is the last one for now,’ Aurelius shook his head.
Not because he had run out of resources for the Dryad’s Scepter to absorb, but because he had sensed something.
His body seemed to have developed an immunity to the fruits.
At first, an Agility Fruit born from a mere rat monster could improve his Agility by 1.
But by the end, he would have to devour several of them to achieve the same result.
’Of course, this may be related to the fact that all these materials are at Rank 1.’
’Perhaps if I let the Dryad’s Scepter absorb the corpses of Rank 2 monsters, things might change,’ Aurelius judged.
He had no way to confirm that idea for now.
He could only wait until later, when he found a suitable Rank 2 material or corpse.
Even so, he was quite satisfied with the results he had already achieved. The stat enhancement had already increased his strength by a lot.
Moreover, this was not the end of today’s matters.
The Player Panel soon appeared.
Aurelius’ eyes briefly hovered over the Skill Points before moving toward the long skills column.
He carefully weighed his options.
