My System Is a Fallen God: I Level Up Endlessly
Chapter 12: Divine Strike, The Abyssal HoundThe heavy metallic taste of blood filled Saile’s mouth.
He lay completely flat against the cold stone floor of the Heretic cavern. Every single breath felt like inhaling a handful of sharp needles. His broken ribs ground together painfully as his chest heaved up and down.
Above him, the giant Abyssal Hound let out a low, vibrating growl. The Level 45 monster snapped its jaws together with a loud clang. Toxic purple saliva dripped constantly from its white bone teeth. The thick acid hit the stone floor just inches from Saile’s nose, melting the solid rock with a loud, angry hiss.
Behind the terrifying beast, the Heretic Cultists laughed cruelly. They pointed their curved steel swords at Saile, watching him bleed. They fully expected the giant hound to rip the helpless F-Rank boy into tiny pieces for their dark ritual.
Saile tried to push himself up, but his muscles completely refused to work. His Level 10 body had finally hit its absolute physical limit. The crushing impact of the monster had shattered his defenses entirely. His vision swam with dizzying black spots. He could not even lift his head from the ground.
A golden System screen flashed directly in the center of his fading vision. The text instantly turned a bright, bleeding red.
[HP: 8%... Critical Failure Detected.]
[Host consciousness fading rapidly.]
[System Override Pending...]
"You fought very well for a skinny fisherman," Naicul whispered in the dark corners of Saile’s mind.
The ancient God’s voice was completely empty of pity. It was cold, calculating, and incredibly heavy.
"But you cannot beat a beast from the Abyss with weak human strength. Your bones are broken. Your rusted weapon is shattered into useless splinters. You are totally out of time."
Saile closed his eyes tightly. The pain was just too much. His chest burned wildly with every single heartbeat.
"Give me the reins," Naicul ordered smoothly. "Go to sleep, boy. I will slaughter this ugly dog right now. I will burn these pathetic cultists to ash. All you have to do is close your eyes and let me take over. I will save your life."
Saile felt a sudden, deep pull in his mind. The dark EX-Rank mana inside his chest began to shift heavily, answering Naicul’s call.
The darkness felt incredibly warm and inviting.
If he let go right now, the terrible pain would stop completely. Naicul would heal his broken bones in a single second. Naicul would kill the monsters and clear the room.
But Saile remembered the thick blood on the sand back in Orali. He remembered the pure, unadulterated terror in Avery’s brown eyes when she looked at him.
Every time Naicul took control, the Sync Rate went up. Every time the God walked the earth, Saile lost a piece of his own soul. The coldness and apathy were already creeping into his daily thoughts.
If he went to sleep now, he might never wake up as the same person.
He would just become a silent passenger in his own body.
"No," Saile thought fiercely.
"Do not be a stubborn idiot!" Naicul roared angrily. His heavy voice shook the inside of Saile’s skull like an earthquake. "You are bleeding out! If you refuse the override, you will die right here on this dirty floor!"
The Abyssal Hound lunged forward. It opened its massive, toxic jaws wide, aiming straight for Saile’s head to finish the job.
Saile refused to lose his soul.
He refused to let the ancient God win.
He violently bit down on his own bottom lip. His teeth pierced deep into his skin, drawing fresh, hot blood into his mouth. The sharp, sudden pain cut through the heavy numbness in his brain. The metallic taste of blood shocked his system completely awake.
His eyes snapped wide open, burning with fierce, unstoppable determination.
"I am not going to sleep!" Saile screamed out loud.
He manually pushed back against the System Override. He gripped the dark EX-Rank mana inside his chest and pulled it aggressively away from Naicul. He forced his own human willpower right into his mana core, demanding the magic obey him instead of the God.
The glowing System screen flickered wildly.
It changed from bleeding red back to a bright, shining gold.
[System Override Cancelled by Host.]
"You absolute fool!" Naicul yelled in frustration.
Saile ignored him completely.
He pushed his mana core to spin faster and faster. Extreme pressure built up inside his chest, glowing with an intense, burning heat. The raw energy flooded into his broken, tired muscles, forcing them to obey his commands.
He reached out and grabbed the broken, jagged wooden stump of his rusted harpoon tightly in his right hand.
The Abyssal Hound was just inches away from biting his face off.
"Phantom Step!" Saile shouted.
Boom!
The air cracked with a deafening sonic boom.
Saile turned into a blurry, vibrating shadow. He vanished right out from under the monster’s snapping jaws.
The giant hound bit empty air. Its heavy bone teeth slammed together with a loud, ringing metallic clang.
Saile appeared instantly on the right side of the cavern. His legs burned with terrible exhaustion, but he did not stop moving for a single second.
He planted his boots firmly into the dirt and dashed straight toward the solid stone wall. He leaped high into the air, planting his left foot flat against the rough rock.
With a massive burst of speed, Saile executed a flawless wall-run. He ran three quick steps vertically up the stone, gaining crucial height and forward momentum.
The Heretic Cultists gasped loudly in shock. They pointed their swords up at him, completely unable to understand how a dying boy was suddenly moving so incredibly fast.
The Abyssal Hound spun around quickly. It roared loudly, jumping high into the air to catch Saile right off the wall. The beast’s massive claws reached out to tear him down.
Saile pushed off the stone.
He dived through the air directly toward the leaping monster. As they quickly closed the distance, Saile twisted his body sharply. He tucked his knees and whipped his right leg around in a rapid, devastating mid-air spin sweep.
Smack!
His heavy boot slammed brutally into the side of the hound’s thick, bone-plated neck.
A visible shockwave exploded from the heavy impact. The intense physical force completely broke the giant monster’s balance in the air. It knocked the beast’s massive head sideways, leaving its dark, smoky back totally exposed.
But Saile was not done.
While still hanging in mid-air, the extreme pressure inside his spinning mana core finally reached a breaking point.
A massive surge of dark, pure EX-Rank energy flooded down his right arm. It poured straight into the broken wooden stump of his harpoon.
The jagged wood suddenly extended.
Dark mana formed a sharp, glowing blade made entirely of raw black lightning. The air smelled strongly of burning ozone and scorched magic.
A brand-new golden screen flashed brightly in his vision.
[New Skill Unlocked: Divine Strike (Active) C-Grade.]
Saile chained his spin sweep directly into a devastating aerial strike. He raised the glowing black blade high above his head and threw his entire body weight into the falling attack, bringing the dark weapon down with absolute, terrifying power.
"Die!" Saile roared.
Boom!
The Divine Strike connected cleanly.
The blade of black lightning pierced straight through the thick bone plates on the very top of the hound’s skull. It cut through the monster’s corrupted purple magic like a hot knife going through soft butter.
A massive, circular shockwave ripped outward from the brutal hit. The sheer force of the blow sent both Saile and the monster crashing back down to the earth.
They hit the dirt floor with a heavy, sickening thud.
The ground trembled violently, knocking several of the red-robed Cultists right off their feet. A thick cloud of dust and sharp rocks flew wildly into the air, covering the entire underground chamber.
The cavern went completely silent.
The red torches on the stone walls flickered slowly back to life. The heavy dust settled down around the deep crater.
Saile stood up slowly.
His legs shook wildly, and his chest heaved up and down as he gasped for air. He stood directly over the massive body of the Level 45 Abyssal Hound.
The beast’s glowing purple eyes were completely dark. Its shifting black smoke slowly faded away into nothing.
Saile had slaughtered the boss monster entirely by himself.
He pulled his broken weapon out of the beast’s skull. The dark lightning faded rapidly from the wood, leaving just the small, smoking stump behind.
He wiped the sweat and blood from his chin, turning slowly to face the terrified Cultists.
They stared at the F-Rank boy with wide, horrified disbelief. He had just killed their ultimate weapon without letting the dark God take over.
Many of them dropped their glowing curved swords, taking slow, frightened steps backward toward the tunnel.
Inside Saile’s mind, the heavy, sarcastic voice of the ancient God was completely gone.
Naicul was perfectly quiet.
For the very first time since they made their dark pact in the ruined temple, the Fallen God had absolutely nothing to say.
Naicul watched the boy through their shared vision, genuinely and deeply impressed by the human’s impossible willpower.
Saile looked up as the golden System screens popped up in front of his eyes. They chimed with a beautiful, ringing sound, signaling his hard-earned survival.
