My System Is a Fallen God: I Level Up Endlessly
Chapter 13: Endless Devourer, The Ancient TabletThe cavern went completely silent.
The heavy dust slowly settled over the cold stone floor.
Saile dropped to his hands and knees. He gasped desperately for air. His chest burned like a hot fire, and every single breath felt like swallowing broken glass.
But he was alive.
He looked down at his empty, shaking hands. He had just killed a Level 45 boss monster, and he had done it without letting the ancient God take over his body.
A few feet away, the giant Abyssal Hound lay totally still. Its terrifying purple eyes were completely dark. The thick, toxic black smoke that made up its body was slowly starting to fade away into the cold air.
"Do not just sit there," Naicul commanded in Saile’s mind. The God sounded serious, but his usual mocking tone was gone. "The beast is dead. Claim your reward before the dark mana disappears completely."
Saile nodded slowly. He forced his tired legs to work. He crawled over to the giant, bone-plated skull of the dead monster and placed his bare, bloody hand directly onto the cold white bone.
He closed his eyes and called upon his EX-Rank Talent.
Golden light erupted in the dark room.
The massive body of the Abyssal Hound instantly dissolved. It melted away into hundreds of glowing blue and gold orbs of light. The beautiful orbs rushed through the air and slammed directly into Saile’s chest.
Golden System screens popped up so fast they completely filled his vision.
[EX-Rank Talent: Endless Devourer Activated.]
[You have slain: Abyssal Hound (Level 45).]
[Massive EXP Gained.]
A rush of incredible, burning heat flooded Saile’s veins. The terrible pain in his chest vanished instantly. His broken ribs snapped back into perfect place. The deep cuts on his arms sealed themselves shut. The exhaustion melted out of his muscles, replaced by a fresh, explosive power.
[Level Up!]
[Level Up!]
[Level Up!]
The chimes rang like loud bells in his ears. The notifications did not stop until he hit a brand-new milestone.
[Host has reached Level 22.]
[Base stats massively increased.]
Saile opened his eyes and took a deep, clear breath. He clenched his fists.
The difference between Level 10 and Level 22 was absolutely terrifying. He felt lighter, faster, and incredibly dangerous. The physical strength packed into his arms made him feel like he could punch straight through a solid stone wall.
Two more items dropped from the fading light of the monster. They floated gently into the air.
One was a heavy, jagged piece of pure black iron. The other was a glowing blue crystal that shone much brighter than the others he had seen.
Saile grabbed them out of the air.
[Loot Drop: Weapon Fragment x4 acquired.]
[Loot Drop: Rare Glowing Skill Shard x3 acquired.]
Saile smiled. He pictured the items vanishing, and they instantly melted into golden light, safely storing themselves inside his System inventory.
His rusted harpoon was completely broken from the fight, leaving him empty-handed. He walked over to the body of a dead Heretic Cultist and picked up a dropped curved steel sword.
It was not a divine weapon, but his Level 22 strength made the heavy steel feel as light as a wooden stick.
"We are not done," Saile said out loud. He gripped the sword tightly.
"There are still rats hiding in the walls," Naicul agreed coldly. "Clear the den."
Saile walked out of the main cavern. He headed down a narrow, dark stone hallway leading deeper into the cultist hideout. Red torches flickered wildly on the walls.
Suddenly, three men in dark red robes jumped out from the heavy shadows. They were Level 40 Cultists who had run away when the Abyssal Hound appeared. They held their curved swords high, their eyes full of desperate panic.
"Kill the intruder!" the lead Cultist screamed.
He swung his glowing blade in a wide, deadly horizontal slash aimed directly at Saile’s neck.
Just an hour ago, this attack would have cut Saile cleanly in half.
Now, Saile just smirked.
He planted his boots firmly into the dirt.
"Phantom Step," he whispered.
Boom!
A loud sonic boom resonated through the narrow tunnel.
Saile turned into a vibrating shadow. He vanished completely, moving with impossible speed. The Cultist’s heavy sword smashed into empty air.
Saile appeared instantly behind the three men. He did not give them a single second to turn around.
He dropped into a low crouch and whipped his right leg around in a brutal, lightning-fast spin sweep. His boot slammed hard into the back of two Cultists’ ankles.
The physical force shattered their stances, dropping them flat on their backs with a heavy crash.
The third Cultist spun around, thrusting his sword wildly toward Saile’s chest.
Saile pushed off the stone floor. He launched into a high backflip, soaring easily over the thrusting blade.
While hanging upside down in the air, he lashed out with his heel. He executed a perfect aerial twist kick, catching the standing Cultist right on the side of his head.
Smack!
A visible shockwave exploded from the hit. The Level 40 man flew sideways, crashing violently into the stone wall.
The ground trembled heavily under the impact.
Saile landed smoothly on his feet.
The two men on the floor scrambled desperately to get up. Saile stepped forward, twisting his hips sharply. He threw a devastating right uppercut.
His fist connected cleanly with the closest man’s jaw.
The bone cracked loudly, and the man was lifted completely off the ground before falling unconscious.
Saile raised his stolen steel sword and finished the fight in two quick, precise slashes.
The bodies dissolved into golden light. Saile’s EX-Rank Talent devoured their remaining energy, feeding his core. He collected their dropped Weapon Fragments and stored them away safely.
The combat felt completely different now.
He was not just surviving anymore.
He was dominating.
Saile continued walking down the tunnel. The air grew colder the deeper he went.
The dirt path ended at a set of heavy, ancient stone doors. There were no guards here.
Saile placed his hands flat against the cold rock and pushed. With his Level 22 strength, the heavy stone doors easily scraped open, revealing a hidden, forgotten room.
It was an old shrine.
Thick cobwebs covered the ceiling. The floor was buried under a heavy layer of gray dust. In the exact center of the dark room stood a massive, crumbling stone tablet. It reached from the floor all the way up to the ceiling.
Saile walked slowly toward it. He blew the dust off the surface of the rock.
His eyes widened.
The tablet was completely covered in incredibly detailed carvings. It told a visual story.
At the bottom of the rock, a tall warrior with fierce eyes stood alone, fighting off hordes of nightmarish, twisted monsters that looked exactly like the Abyssal Hound. The warrior had his arms spread wide, shielding a group of terrified humans hiding behind his back.
But right behind the protecting warrior, standing in the shadows, were five other figures.
These five figures wore pristine robes. They had bright, glowing halos carved above their heads. They looked exactly like the statues of the Immortal Saints that stood in every Church across the world.
And they were driving their swords directly into the protecting warrior’s back.
Saile traced the deep grooves of the stone with his fingers. He looked at the face of the betrayed warrior.
It was a face he knew.
"Is this... you?" Saile asked quietly.
For a long moment, the shrine was totally silent.
"Yes," Naicul replied.
The ancient God’s voice was completely empty of its usual cold arrogance. It sounded incredibly tired. It sounded completely broken.
"That was one thousand years ago," Naicul said softly. The heavy pain in his voice echoed inside Saile’s chest. "I was fighting the Abyss. The monsters were pouring out of the dark, slaughtering the innocent. I pushed my body past its absolute limits to hold the line. I turned my back to protect the humans hiding behind me."
Saile stared at the carvings of the five Saints holding the bloody swords.
"And my closest friends drove their blades right through my spine," Naicul whispered. "They did not want to save the world. They were jealous of my power. They stole my SSS-Rank energy, claimed it as their own, and locked me in the dark. They built their Holy Church on top of my dead body. They rewrote history. They called me a demon, and they called themselves saviors."
Saile stood perfectly still.
A heavy, painful knot formed in his throat.
For his entire life, the Church had told him that Naicul Elav was an evil monster. They preached that the Saints were pure and holy saviors.
But Saile had seen the ugly truth with his own eyes.
He saw the cruel Inquisitors who wanted to burn his sister alive in Orali. He saw the arrogant nobles in the guild who treated humans like trash.
The Saints were the real villains.
Naicul was just a victim of a massive, historical lie.
He had spent a thousand years trapped in the dark alone, listening to the world worship his murderers.
"I believe you," Saile said softly.
He gripped his stolen steel sword.
For the very first time since they made their dark pact, host and parasite were standing on the exact same side.
