My System Is a Fallen God: I Level Up Endlessly
Chapter 37: Diamond-Rank, The Shadow SponsorThe heavy wooden door clicked shut behind Saile. The small, damp locker room instantly felt entirely suffocating.
The roaring cheers of the blood arena were completely muffled behind the thick stone walls. The air inside the room was vibrating with raw, terrifying magic. It felt exactly like standing at the very bottom of a freezing, crushing ocean.
Saile immediately reached over his shoulder and ripped the Calamity Fang from his back.
The pitch-black odachi hissed loudly. It radiated dark lightning that crackled aggressively against the wet stone walls. He dropped into a low, defensive stance, gripping the long hilt tightly with both bare hands.
"Show yourself," Saile demanded softly, his silver eyes piercing the gloom.
A figure stepped out from the deepest, darkest corner of the room.
It was a tall, incredibly powerful woman wearing a tight, dark purple combat suit. A sheer black veil completely covered the lower half of her face, leaving only her glowing purple eyes visible. She moved with absolute, terrifying silence.
A golden system screen instantly flashed in Saile’s vision.
[Target: Lady Vesper]
[Level: 60 (Diamond Tier)]
[Talent: S-Rank - Gravity Manipulation]
Saile gritted his teeth. Level 60. She was a Transcendent-Tier monster. A single mistake in this tiny room would mean instant, violent death.
"You have terrible manners for an F-Rank peasant," the veiled woman said. Her voice was smooth, cold, and echoing with suppressed power.
Before Saile could even blink, the stone floor beneath his heavy boots shattered completely.
A crushing, invisible weight slammed directly onto his shoulders. The sudden
gravity was easily fifty times heavier than normal.
His knees buckled violently under the intense pressure. The raw kinetic force
threatened to shatter his Platinum-Tier bones completely into powder.
"Naicul!" Saile yelled in his mind, fighting desperately to stay standing.
"Do not use my mana!" the ancient God snapped back. "If she is an agent of the Church, exposing me will bring a holy armada straight to this city!"
Saile was forced to rely entirely on his raw physical stats. He let out a furious roar and pushed back against the crushing weight.
He forced his right foot up, planting it firmly on the cracked stone. He swung the Calamity Fang upward with explosive, kinetic force, aiming to manually sever the invisible gravity field.
The black blade sliced through the heavy air with a deafening sonic boom.
Lady Vesper simply raised a single, slender finger.
Clang!
The Mythic-tier sword slammed directly into an invisible wall of condensed gravity right in front of her face. The visceral impact sent a massive, visible shockwave ripping through the small room.
The unconscious gladiator in the corner was blown completely through the wooden door. The heavy iron lockers splintered into a thousand jagged pieces.
Saile was violently thrown backward by the massive rebound force.
He recovered instantly on pure combat instinct. He executed a flawless backflip in mid-air, landing smoothly on his feet in a low crouch.
He immediately activated [Phantom Step].
His body transformed into a blur of black lightning. He dashed sideways, running
vertically along the stone wall to flank her blind spot.
Saile pushed off the wall and launched into a devastating aerial twist kick, aiming his heavy boot straight for the back of her neck.
"Enough," Lady Vesper said calmly.
She snapped her fingers. The crushing gravity instantly vanished.
Saile stumbled forward slightly, his kick hitting empty air. The sudden release of pressure made him feel incredibly light, almost completely weightless.
He landed in a shoulder roll recovery and popped back up to his feet. He didn’t lower his sword, keeping the dark blade pointed directly at her throat.
"Who are you?" Saile asked, wiping a drop of cold sweat from his chin.
"I am Lady Vesper," she replied, casually brushing dust off her purple sleeve. "And I am not here to kill you, Ghost. I am here to make you a highly profitable offer."
Saile narrowed his eyes. He didn’t trust a single person in this lawless desert.
"I just won fifty matches in a row," Saile said flatly. "I have enough gold to buy this entire arena. I don’t need whatever you are selling."
Lady Vesper laughed softly behind her sheer black veil. It was a cold, knowing sound.
"Gold is completely useless where you are going," she said. "You are Level 45. You are rapidly approaching the Transcendent tiers. Gold will not break your mortal limits."
She pointed a slender finger at the massive pouch resting heavily on Saile’s hip.
"I know exactly what you vacuumed up in that fighting pit," Vesper continued. "Fourteen glowing Skill Shards. Twelve high-grade Weapon Fragments. The monster core of a Level 38 Iron-Scaled Basilisk. And a massive fortune in pure gold."
Saile froze completely. His EX-Rank talent was supposed to be completely invisible to the naked eye.
"How do you know that?" Saile demanded, his grip tightening hard on his sword.
"Because I was watching you very closely," she said, taking a slow step forward. "You hid it incredibly well. You used raw physical martial arts. You played the role of a hyper-agile F-Rank freak perfectly."
She stopped just a few feet away from him.
"But I saw the truth," Vesper whispered. "Whenever you struck a lethal blow, a tiny fraction of dark mana leaked into your fists. It was incredibly faint. But it was ancient. And it was pure."
In Saile’s mind, Naicul went completely, dangerously silent. The God was listening to every single word with absolute intensity.
"The Holy Church hunts that dark magic," Vesper said, her glowing purple eyes narrowing. "They call it a Heretic’s plague. They would burn this entire desert city to ash just to find you."
"If you plan on turning me in for the bounty, you better draw a weapon," Saile threatened coldly.
Vesper shook her head slowly.
"We do not worship the False Saints here," she said, her voice dropping into a reverent, hushed whisper. "I lead a shadow organization operating deep beneath these desert sands. We are called the Remnants."
Saile blinked, slightly confused by the strange name.
"The Remnants?" Saile asked.
"Descendants of the true army," Naicul suddenly whispered in Saile’s mind. The
ancient God’s voice was trembling with rare, suppressed emotion. "My army. They actually survived."
Saile kept his face completely blank, refusing to show his internal shock to the
Diamond-Tier warrior.
"You need massive resources to survive the Church’s impending hunt," Vesper said, pacing slowly across the ruined floor. "Your little pile of shards and fragments is cute. But forging Transcendent skills requires hundreds of them. It requires pure elemental cores and grandmaster forges."
She stopped pacing and looked Saile directly in the eyes.
"I am offering to sponsor you," Vesper declared. "I will give you total access to the Remnants’ hidden armory. I will give you the heavy resources you desperately need to reach the Transcendent tiers."
Saile slowly lowered the Calamity Fang. The heavy tension in the small room finally began to drop.
"Nothing in this terrible world is free," Saile said suspiciously. "What exactly do you want in return?"
"I want to see if you are worthy of what you carry," she answered.
She reached into her dark purple coat and pulled out a small, heavy golden compass. It looked exactly like the God-slaying tracking compass the Gold-Rank Executor had used back in Valerius.
But this one was entirely different. It wasn’t glowing with hostile red light. It was glowing with a deep, pulsing purple energy.
"This compass tracks the Divine Authority of the Fallen God," Vesper explained softly. "It led me straight to this blood arena. It led me straight to you."
Saile took a slow step back, fully preparing to activate [Shadow Swap] to escape the room instantly.
"Wait," Vesper ordered, raising her hand peacefully. "I told you, we are not your enemies. We have been waiting in the shadows for someone exactly like you for a very long time."
She slipped the glowing golden compass back into her coat pocket.
"Deep inside our heavily fortified underground bunker," Vesper said, her voice
filled with absolute awe. "We are guarding a sacred relic. It is a sealed fragment of the Fallen God’s original body."
Saile’s heart skipped a heavy, painful beat.
"A what?" Saile asked, genuinely stunned.
"A piece of my old vessel!" Naicul roared in Saile’s mind, his ancient voice exploding with sudden, violent greed. "Kid! Do you understand what this means? If we absorb that fragment, the Endless Devourer will permanently mutate!"
Saile struggled to maintain his cold, cool exterior. If Naicul regained a piece of his original, physical body, the power jump would be absolutely catastrophic.
It could give him the exact, overwhelming strength he needed to break into the Pope’s cathedral and rescue Avery.
"The other faction leaders will not just hand it over to a skinny teenager," Vesper warned, interrupting his rapid thoughts. "They boast S-Rank and SS-Rank talents. They are proud, violent, and highly skeptical warlords. They will test you."
"Let them test me," Saile said coldly. He sheathed the Calamity Fang across his back with a sharp, metallic click. "I will break whatever pathetic test they have."
Vesper smiled warmly behind her black veil.
"Good," she said. "Then follow me, Ghost. It is time to leave the surface behind."
She turned around and pressed her bare palm against the solid stone wall of the locker room.
A massive, hidden stone door smoothly ground open, revealing a pitch-black, downward-sloping tunnel. The cold air blowing up from the depths smelled like ancient dust and heavy metal.
Saile didn’t hesitate. He pulled his black stealth cloak tight and stepped into the dark tunnel right behind her.
He was going to claim the Fallen God’s body fragment, no matter who he had to beat to a bloody pulp to get it.
[System Alert: New Main Quest Detected.]
[Objective: Survive the Array of the Ancients.]
[Reward: Unknown Divine Fragment.]
Saile read the glowing golden screen as they walked deeper into the earth. The quest reward was exactly what he needed. But the name of the test made his blood run slightly cold.
"Naicul," Saile whispered in his mind. "What exactly is the Array of the Ancients?"
The God let out a dark, booming laugh that echoed violently inside Saile’s skull.
"It is a crushing gravity and mana-pressure chamber," Naicul purred, his voice dripping with pure, ancient arrogance. "A brutal torture device I designed myself a thousand years ago. If they throw you in there, boy... your Platinum-Tier bones are going to snap like dry twigs."
