My System Is a Fallen God: I Level Up Endlessly

Chapter 38: Divine Fragment, The Heretic Bunker

The hidden stone tunnel sloped sharply downward into absolute darkness. The air grew freezing cold, smelling heavily of rusted iron and ancient, undisturbed dust continued.

He kept his silver eyes locked on Lady Vesper’s back as she led him deeper underground.

"A gravity and mana-pressure chamber," Saile muttered softly under his breath.

"Exactly," Naicul replied in his mind, his ancient voice echoing with dark, cruel amusement. "I built the Array of the Ancients a thousand years ago to weed

out the weak in my ranks. It literally crushes the physical body and the mana core of anyone who is unworthy."

"And they are going to throw me inside it," Saile stated.

"They will certainly try," Naicul purred. "Your Platinum-Tier bones are dense, kid. But the Array was designed to break Demigods. This will be incredibly painful."

Saile completely ignored the ancient God’s taunting. He focused on his breathing, carefully matching Lady Vesper’s silent, completely weightless footsteps.

They walked in the pitch-black darkness for nearly twenty minutes. The crushing weight of the earth above them felt incredibly heavy.

Finally, a faint purple glow appeared at the end of the long tunnel.

They stepped out onto a massive, jagged stone balcony. Saile stopped walking, his eyes widening slightly beneath his dark hood.

A colossal underground cavern stretched out before them. It was a sprawling, hidden subterranean fortress entirely carved into the bedrock of the desert.

Massive iron bridges connected towering stone pillars. Deep trenches of glowing purple lava illuminated the dark, heavily fortified city.

Thousands of hardened warriors moved through the lower camps below. They wore

dark steel armor and sharpened heavy, brutal weapons. Massive black banners hung from the cavern ceiling, all bearing the exact same symbol.

It was a jagged silver crown, violently split right down the middle by dark lightning.

"Welcome to the true capital of the Lawless Territories," Lady Vesper said softly.

She stood at the edge of the stone balcony, looking down at the massive army with glowing purple eyes.

"For a thousand years, the Holy Church has hunted us to near extinction," she explained, her voice echoing with heavy sorrow. "They burned our ancestors alive. They branded us as Heretics and drove us into this forgotten desert to rot."

Saile looked at the massive black banners hanging in the cavern. The symbol felt entirely familiar, sending a strange, phantom ache directly into his chest.

"Who are they?" Saile asked quietly.

"We are the bloodline of the true army," Vesper answered, turning to face him. "We are the descendants of the soldiers who refused to kneel to the Immortal Saints when they committed their great betrayal."

In Saile’s mind, the ancient God went completely, utterly silent.

"When the False Saints sealed our Lord away, they demanded absolute worship,"

Vesper continued, her voice hardening with cold fury. "Our ancestors refused. We chose exile. We chose to guard his legacy in the shadows."

"My loyal soldiers," Naicul whispered in Saile’s mind. The God’s ancient, cynical voice suddenly cracked with a heavy, overwhelming wave of raw emotion. "They actually survived."

Saile felt a sudden, sharp pang of sympathy for the monster living in his head. Naicul had believed his entire world was destroyed a millennium ago.

"We worship the Fallen God," Vesper declared fiercely. "And we have waited for ten centuries for his prophesied vessel to finally arrive."

She gestured toward a heavy iron staircase leading down into the main fortress.

"Come," she ordered. "The faction leaders are waiting in the central keep."

Saile followed her down the winding iron stairs. They stepped onto a massive stone bridge that crossed directly over a river of glowing purple magma.

Two colossal figures guarded the end of the bridge. They were towering, heavily armored Iron Sentries built completely out of enchanted black metal.

They each wielded a massive steel halberd that could easily cleave a warhorse in half.

As Saile approached, the glowing red eyes of the sentries locked directly onto him. The massive machines immediately recognized an unregistered, anomalous mana signature.

"Unidentified presence detected," a loud, mechanical voice boomed from the lead sentry. "Lethal force authorized."

"Wait, stand down!" Vesper shouted, raising her hand to issue a Diamond-Tier command code.

It was entirely too late.

The lead sentry lunged forward with terrifying, explosive speed. It swung its massive steel halberd in a devastating horizontal arc, aiming to cut Saile completely in two.

Saile didn’t even flinch. He didn’t reach for his sword.

He dropped his weight entirely and stepped cleanly under the massive, swinging blade. The heavy steel passed mere inches over his dark hood.

Planting his left boot firmly on the stone bridge, Saile whipped his right leg around in a blistering tornado kick.

His heavy heel slammed directly into the thick wooden shaft of the sentry’s halberd.

Boom!

A sharp, deafening sonic boom cracked through the underground cavern. A visible ring of displaced air exploded violently outward from the kinetic impact.

The raw physical force of his Level 45 strength shattered the enchanted weapon

completely into splinters.

The sentry staggered backward. Saile finished his acrobatic rotation with a flawless, smooth shoulder roll recovery, popping right back up to his feet.

The second sentry immediately charged, thrusting the spiked tip of its halberd directly at Saile’s chest.

Saile activated [Phantom Step].

He transformed into a blur of black lightning. He dodged the lethal thrust completely, side-stepping the weapon with explosive, blinding speed.

He chained his momentum directly into a high wall-run, stepping two heavy paces up the side of the stone archway. He pushed off the solid rock with ground-shattering force.

Sailing through the air, Saile executed a devastating aerial twist kick.

His boot slammed directly into the side of the second sentry’s iron helmet.

Clang!

The brutal, visceral impact deformed the thick black metal instantly. The heavy sentry spun wildly from the massive kinetic shockwave, crashing hard against the iron railing of the bridge.

Before the first sentry could recover its balance, Saile dropped low to the ground.

He swept his right leg out in a blindingly fast, low spin sweep. His heavy boot crashed into the machine’s thick iron ankles.

The sheer force swept the colossal sentry entirely off its feet. It crashed backward onto the stone bridge with a ground-trembling thud.

Saile stood up slowly, raising his right fist.

He drove a massive, heavy downward jab directly into the center of the fallen machine’s chest plate.

Boom!

Another visible shockwave ripped through the air. The heavy iron chest plate caved in completely, sparking wildly with broken magical circuits.

Both Level 45 Iron Sentries were entirely incapacitated in less than five seconds.

Saile stood calmly in the center of the bridge, his breathing completely slow and perfectly steady. He dusted off his black cloak, entirely unharmed.

Lady Vesper stood a few feet away, her glowing purple eyes wide with absolute,

unfiltered shock.

She had just watched an F-Rank teenager completely dismantle two elite heavy sentries using nothing but raw, acrobatic martial arts. He didn’t even use a single magic spell.

"You truly are a monster," Vesper whispered, a dark smile forming behind her sheer veil.

"They were in my way," Saile replied coldly. "Let’s keep moving."

Vesper nodded, turning around to lead him off the bridge and toward the towering black iron gates of the central keep.

The inner courtyard of the fortress was lined with veteran, heavily scarred Diamond-Rank assassins. They all stared at Saile with extreme hostility, gripping their poisoned daggers tightly.

They did not trust the skinny, cloaked boy walking beside their leader.

Saile ignored their murderous glares entirely. He kept his focus locked on the massive, heavy double doors at the end of the courtyard.

Suddenly, a violent, burning heat flooded his veins.

The Endless Devourer violently flared to life inside his soul. The dark mana in his core roared, completely starving and desperate to consume something hidden deep inside the keep.

Multiple golden system screens instantly blared into Saile’s vision, flashing with blinding, frantic light.

[System Alert: Divine Authority Detected!]

[Warning: Supreme Threat Level.]

[Alert: Divine Body Fragment detected nearby!]

Saile stopped walking. He grabbed his chest, fighting through the sudden, tearing pain in his ribs.

"Naicul!" Saile gasped in his mind.

The ancient God was no longer sitting quietly in the back of his consciousness. Naicul’s soul was thrashing violently, radiating a terrifying aura of absolute, unadulterated greed.

"It is close," Naicul roared, his voice shaking the very foundations of Saile’s mind. "My original flesh! I can feel it calling out to me!"

The dark lightning inside Saile’s core began to leak out of his fingertips, completely suppressing the ambient mana in the courtyard.

"The other faction leaders are waiting just behind these doors," Vesper said, stopping in front of the massive iron gates.

She turned to look at him, her purple eyes incredibly serious.

"They boast S-Rank and SS-Rank talents," Vesper warned softly. "They have spent their entire lives guarding that Divine Fragment. They will not give it up simply because I asked."

Saile forced his raging mana back down. He took a deep breath, completely centering his focus.

He didn’t care about their S-Rank talents. He didn’t care about their pride. He was going to consume that Divine Fragment, permanently mutate his EX-Rank system, and become a true nightmare to the Holy Church.

"Open the doors," Saile commanded, his voice cold, hollow, and dripping with dark authority.

Vesper placed both her hands against the heavy iron. She pushed hard, and the massive gates slowly ground open, revealing the terrifying trials waiting for him inside the sanctum.
