Chapter 411

Another of the Aspirants’ top brass was Caster.

With how rapidly he moved across the battlefield, the Aberrants were having an incredibly difficult time keeping track of him.

His speed was almost akin to teleportation, his figure constantly flickering from one creature to another before they could properly lock onto him.

A pair of King-rank short swords gleamed in his hands.

After everything that had happened in the Red World, he had used the allowance provided by his family to upgrade all of his equipment.

The investment was paying off.

His blades were now capable of inflicting significant damage upon the Aberrants.

Following the initial clash, several Aberrants had attempted to surround the Aspirants by splitting up through the city’s many streets.

As a result, the battlefield had spread across the entire city.

From the artillery positioned on the main road, all that could be seen was thick smoke rising into the sky while buildings continuously crumbled like stacks of cards.

Dashing into a four-storey building, his footsteps as light as feathers, Caster immediately spotted another Aberrant.

The towering creature had just lifted a hover vehicle over its head and was preparing to hurl it toward an Aspirant battling another Aberrant high in the air.

Without hesitation, Caster vaulted forward.

Pffffff!

Compressed gas burst from his VMS boots, propelling him through the air.

The Aberrant reacted a fraction too late.

CLANG!

One of Caster’s short swords slammed into the creature’s nape with tremendous force.

Sparks exploded from the impact as the thick rocky armor protected the creature from certain death.

Roaring furiously, the Aberrant spun around, its gigantic claws slicing viciously through the air.

They struck nothing.

The very tip of the claws merely grazed the side of the building.

CRAAASH!

Concrete burst apart.

Windows exploded outward while twisted steel rods were ripped from the structure and sent flying through the air.

Caster landed lightly on the ground before immediately sprinting forward, weaving between the creature’s massive legs.

His sharp eyes calmly scanned the Aberrant from head to toe, searching for the slightest clue that could reveal the location of its heart.

’Come on... Where could its heart be?’

Leaping effortlessly from one pile of rubble to another, Caster’s eyes suddenly widened.

The creature’s massive tail whipped toward him like a gigantic baseball bat.

There was no time to retreat.

The attack was simply too fast.

Left with no other choice, Caster instinctively crossed both swords in front of his body.

For a One-Spined Aberrant...

This creature was unusually fast.

Blue blood streamed steadily from its shoulder where the artillery bombardment had injured it.

The wounds had already begun strengthening it.

"..."

WAAAM!

The tail crashed against Caster’s crossed blades with overwhelming force.

The impact blasted him backward like a broken spear.

CRAAASH!

He tore straight through a window, shattering every pane before crashing into the floor inside.

His body ricocheted across the ground several times before he forcefully drove both swords into the concrete.

SCREEECH!

The blades carved long trenches through the floor before finally bringing him to a stop.

The entire building suddenly trembled.

Caster’s head snapped upward.

A gigantic fist burst through the wall like a cannonball, rocketing directly toward him.

Rolling aside as quickly as he could, he narrowly escaped.

BOOOOM!

The fist tore past him before crashing into another wall, reducing it to rubble.

Static crackled through his comm device.

"Caster... the eyes. The heart is hidden deep behind the retina."

’Huh? Ray?!’

There wasn’t even enough time to question how Ray knew something like that.

The kid was a werewolf.

What exactly did the Legacy know about mythical creatures like them?

Still...

If Caster had learned anything from the Red World...

...it was to trust his comrades.

Even while he had been under Nebula’s control...

They had protected him.

They had never abandoned him.

So the least he could do now...

...was trust the information Ray had given him.

Without a moment’s hesitation, Caster planted a foot into the broken concrete and exploded forward once more.

He blitzed forward before springing onto the outstretched arm of the Aberrant.

Without thinking twice, he bolted across the massive limb, sprinting toward its shoulder with both short swords drawn behind him.

A second claw suddenly tore through the side of the building, rocketing toward him from the side.

Caster spared it only the briefest glance before muttering beneath his breath,

"Dark Wolf."

AWHOOOO!

A dense black mist erupted beside him.

From within it emerged a gigantic wolf, its body as large as a small house. Wisps of dark energy curled from its jet-black fur as crimson eyes snapped toward the incoming claw.

Without needing another command, the beast lunged forward.

BOOM!

The ground cracked beneath its paws as it exploded into motion.

Within a heartbeat, it appeared directly before the incoming strike.

Now, the Aberrant was forced to deal with two opponents at once.

The wolf twisted its body in midair before kicking off to the side.

WHOOSH!

The gigantic claw narrowly missed, tearing through the space it had occupied before crashing into the ground and ripping the concrete apart.

Using the opening, the wolf pounced.

Its massive claws raked across the Aberrant’s arm.

SCREEECH!

To the beast’s frustration, the sharp claws merely scraped across the creature’s rocky armor, sending sparks flying instead of drawing blood.

Still...

It had served its purpose.

It distracted the Aberrant for the split second Caster needed.

Weaving beneath the creature’s raised arm, Caster shot forward like a blur.

His eyes locked onto the Aberrant’s.

Calm black eyes met glowing yellow ones.

Realizing the human’s intention, the creature immediately yanked its arm backward.

CRAAASH!

The motion shattered the side of the already damaged building, causing the entire structure to groan before tilting dangerously forward.

Caster nearly lost his footing.

Luckily, his VMS boots activated in the nick of time.

Compressed gas burst from beneath his feet, allowing him to latch onto the slanted wall.

Without pausing for even a heartbeat, he kicked off again.

BOOM!

His figure vanished.

Closing the remaining distance in a blink, Caster appeared directly before the Aberrant’s face, moving far faster than the creature could react.

Then—

TCHAAAAK!

Both short swords slammed into its eyes with every ounce of strength he possessed.

GRRRRRAAAAH!

The Aberrant let out a deafening roar of pain as the blades forced their way through its tough resistance.

Caster didn’t stop.

He ripped one sword free before vaulting high into the air.

WHOOSH!

A gigantic claw swept beneath him, missing by mere inches before smashing into the creature’s own face.

Using the momentum, Caster landed atop the Aberrant’s head before instantly kicking off once more.

His body slid downward with tremendous speed.

Throughout it all, the enraged creature thrashed violently, swinging both arms around like a mad beast in a desperate attempt to catch him.

Caster remained perfectly focused.

Kicking off the creature’s shoulder, his boots roared to life once again.

BOOOOM!

Propelled by both momentum and the thrust from his boots, he drove both swords into the Aberrant’s eyes one final time.

CRACK!

This time...

The resistance gave way.

The blades punched through the eyes completely, burying themselves deep inside the creature’s skull.

The Aberrant’s furious struggles abruptly ceased.

Its towering body swayed unsteadily.

Then...

THUUUD!

It toppled backward.

"Dark Wolf."

Pushing off the collapsing body, Caster landed smoothly on the back of his wolf.

Without slowing down, the enormous beast sprinted toward its next target.

Behind them...

BOOOOOOM!

The dead Aberrant crashed into the leaning building, bringing the entire structure down in a deafening cloud of dust and rubble.
