Chapter 442

[Mama’s Boy: What happened? Did he die?]

[Jimmy_Parker: I really hope he doesn’t. I was beginning to like him.]

[Proud Hater: Why didn’t he even move on time? What sort of fool waits to be decapitated? Oh right! That fool. I would have moved even before the Abberant did.]

[Viewer 123: Oh, for goodness’ sake, just shut your damn keyboard up. Speaking like you could do anything. I bet you would’ve wet your pants the moment you saw a One-Spined Abberant.]

[Mama’s Boy replied to Viewer 123: Exactly. Those kids are braver than that keyboard warrior. Tsk.]

While the online community was up in flames, Bonny and Johnny trembled in fright at the sight unfolding below.

Johnny remained connected to his drones through his glasses while Bonny watched everything happening on her pad.

’Is he fine?’

Even Ray’s friends could feel their hearts pounding so hard that they could almost hear them in their ears.

The battlefield seemed to hold its breath.

Every gaze was directed toward the spot where the cloud of dust had been kicked up, yet nobody could see what was happening inside.

Trisha tightened her grip around her katana as she held her breath, fear and anticipation battling within her.

They had all seen Ray emerge from more dangerous situations than this.

He had even defeated an Emperor-ranked beast that was close to evolving into a Legendary rank.

He had come out of that alive.

But even then...

A Five-Spined Abberant was simply too much.

Depending on the individual Abberant, it could even be on the level of an Emperor-ranked beast.

Felix’s calves began bulging.

His eyes gleamed, shifting from black to yellow as his fear for his brother’s survival intensified.

Caster remained atop his wolf, his expression stoic.

But his breathing was ragged from fighting nonstop.

In just another minute, his MF would be completely depleted.

After that, there wasn’t much he would be able to do in the battle that was about to commence.

Chloe nocked an arrow, her teeth gritted as she stared at the cloud of dust.

’Yo-You wouldn’t die, right? I’m sure of it. You won—’

BOOOM!

The dust dissipated instantly.

And what they saw made the entire battlefield fall silent.

A silver-haired boy was crouched down in front of his friend.

One hand was raised into the air.

And in that hand...

He was holding onto Silver’s tail.

Stopping it from moving any further.

The spikes lining the tail had pierced straight through his palm, drawing crimson blood.

Yet he didn’t care.

He remained completely motionless.

A look of disbelief crossed Silver’s face as she stared at the boy.

Surprise flashed through her golden eyes.

How had he been able to stop her tail?

And even now, despite gripping her tail so tightly, the boy wasn’t even looking in her direction.

His gaze remained fixed on his best friend lying on the ground.

"You fine, bro?"

Van managed a weak smile.

"I’m-i’m sorry for taking such a dangerous step. I-I—"

"Is she the one who really did that to you?" Ray asked.

He didn’t even look toward the Abberant.

Van slowly tilted his head, following his friend’s question.

His eyes met Silver’s.

The boy’s body immediately began shuddering like a fish out of water.

That was all Ray needed to know.

His expression remained calm.

Too calm.

"I’ll scold you later for being stupid after all this is done with."

"....."

[Proud Hater: Is he mad? Why is he speaking like a protagonist in a novel of sorts? That’s a fucking Five-Spined Abberant, kid! In case you don’t know.]

[Daigeto: You do know that he can’t hear you, right? What a fool.]

Silver’s face contorted in anger.

She attempted to take a step backward, creating enough distance to attack again.

Ray immediately released her tail the moment she moved.

And then—

The boy vanished.

He didn’t say a word.

He didn’t even breathe.

It simply seemed as though he had ceased to exist.

Silver’s head snapped around.

Her body whirled like a broken arrow, claws immediately crossing in front of her face.

CLANG! CLANG!

The sound of steel striking claws rang through the battlefield.

Ray appeared directly before the Abberant.

A pair of crimson and obsidian daggers were firmly gripped in his hands.

His grey eyes crackled with faint sparks of lightning.

At the same time, golden sparks flew between the two as their weapons remained locked together.

Neither moved.

Neither backed down.

Their eyes met.

"Oi! What are you doing, Ray?!" Lincoln shouted in confusion.

The corner of Silver’s cold metallic lips twitched.

She pushed against the boy.

The ground beneath their feet cracked.

"Ah..."

Silver suddenly launched herself backward to create distance.

She landed directly on a military artillery vehicle.

BOOM!

The roof caved beneath her weight.

The entire vehicle was crushed downward, flattening beneath her like a pancake.

The warrior inside was crushed in the process.

Ray shifted into a stance, his brows furrowing.

Silver slowly straightened.

"You weaklings, as I’m about to battle, I don’t want you all interfering at all. And neither should you attack them. Stand down so they can all witness my mi—"

BANG!

Ray wasn’t listening.

He simply lunged forward.

Lightning crackled violently around his body as he transformed into a blur.

Within seconds, he had crossed the distance between them.

His dagger thrust toward Silver’s chest.

She parried the attack with a single claw.

Before Ray could follow up with his second dagger, Silver launched forward.

A claw descended from above.

Lightning-fast.

The sheer speed of the attack caused the air to scream as the claw tore downward.

Ray stared at it with a frown.

But before the claw could reach him—

Silver suddenly snapped her head upward.

Her claw changed trajectory.

CLANG!

She swatted an arrow away from her face.

Ray’s eyes shifted.

Landing on a building near the standoff was Chloe.

"Let my friends go!" she screamed as she fired another arrow.

Silver’s attention shifted for only an instant.

That was enough.

Ray flipped his second dagger in his hand and swung toward her abdomen.

But Silver reacted immediately.

Her body whirled around with such violent speed that the military vehicle beneath her exploded apart.

In the same instant, she appeared directly beside Ray.

His dagger sliced through empty air.

As for the arrow racing toward her—

Silver’s tail lashed forward.

BANG!

The projectile was knocked off course.

It smashed into the ground.

BOOOOM!

The arrow detonated fiercely.
