Chapter 451
KA-BOOOOM!
A thunderous explosion rippled out in all directions—consuming anything that was in sight for twenty metres ahead.
The sheer intensity of the blast caused the surrounding atmosphere to distort violently.
Light and sound seemed to bend and distort as the concentrated sphere slammed into Orvak.
This particular blast was more powerful and contained because it was concentrated on a single target, hence it didn’t destroy anything quite that far.
Still, the earth plunged downward deeper and deeper beneath the force of the impact until a ten-metre-deep hollow appeared into view.
The ground had been completely obliterated.
Chunks of earth were scattered across the edges of the newly formed crater while dust and debris continued rising into the air.
The Abberant’s form was out of sight.
The sphere was so bright that he couldn’t be seen at all.
Kaiser flapped his enormous wings and took to the skies almost immediately, creating powerful gusts that sent some of the surrounding dust flying away.
The sphere could be seen settling back down with crackling force.
Golden light slowly faded from the area.
Jack appeared atop his Wyvern with a calm posture and gaze.
His axe head rested on his shoulder as he stared into the distance where the creature had stood a moment ago.
Smoke and dust seemed to be falling back down like snowflakes.
"...."
Several seconds passed in tense silence.
Jack remained motionless as his eyes stayed fixed on the destruction below.
Had he finally gotten rid of Orvak?
The thought crossed his mind.
But Jack wasn’t willing to celebrate yet.
"Did you get him?" the man asked calmly.
A moment later, Kaiser growled as if replying to the man’s question.
Jack shrugged as if understanding what his Wyvern was saying.
"Do you think you can dispel that dust quicker? I’m getting tired, and my meta-force is draining swiftly with each second you are out," Jack uttered.
Kaiser snorted, with mist oozing out of his nose.
But it didn’t make an attempt to do as Jack had asked.
Instead, it pierced the dust with its eyes.
The Wyvern’s golden pupils remained fixed on the destruction below.
Then—
A loud growl could be heard from the beast’s maw.
His wings tightened as he kept looking straight ahead.
Jack’s expression changed slightly.
He noticed the tension running through the beast’s enormous body.
Something was wrong.
The Wyvern had sensed something.
Standing upright, Jack tightened his grip on his axe as he also gazed into the distance.
The remaining dust slowly began settling.
And then—
Jack’s eyes narrowed.
The dust settled fully to reveal Orvak still standing.
But he looked different.
Far different.
Half of his body was burnt to such a crisp that blackened ash still remained clung to his brown body.
From his left shoulder downward, the limbs there had been blown to pieces.
Blue blood sprayed from his ruined body like a fountain, splattering the ground beneath him.
His face also looked almost burnt beyond recognition, but it still remained there.
Yet somehow—
He was standing.
He was currently standing on a single leg.
And for some reason, he was balanced without a wobble or a tilt of his body.
The ground beneath his remaining foot was cracking.
Fissures spread outward from the point where he stood, desperately trying to connect with the other cracks in order to shatter beneath his weight.
Orvak stared at the ground beneath his foot.
He didn’t move.
He didn’t react.
He simply stood there.
For a moment, it almost seemed like he was dead.
But he wasn’t.
The rising and falling of his chest proved otherwise.
He drew in ragged breaths, each one sounding heavier than the last, while blood continued oozing from the horrifying wounds covering his body.
Jack stared at him in disbelief.
"You are really a tough nut to crack, huh?" Jack commented with a frown on his face.
"...."
Orvak didn’t reply at all.
He simply maintained his posture.
Jack lifted a brow, confused by the Abberant’s behavior.
"What? You surely aren’t dead, so why aren’t you moving?"
Orvak didn’t reply.
Instead, he slowly lifted his head.
His gaze traveled upward until his eyes met Jack’s.
The man stood atop his Wyvern a few metres away, axe resting on his shoulder.
The two stared at each other in silence.
Then—
A small grin curved Orvak’s lips.
It would seem as if this debilitating damage had done nothing to shatter his spirit.
If anything, the sight of his own ruined body seemed to have excited him.
"Power..."
His voice was barely above a whisper.
"Power... Haha!"
His grin widened.
"I’m close. I can feel it."
Jack raised a brow, seemingly not understanding what the Abberant was getting at.
Orvak lowered his gaze for a moment, almost lost in his own thoughts.
"But I’m still not close enough, though."
His breathing remained ragged.
"Still far away."
Jack’s expression remained confused.
Then Orvak suddenly snapped his head in Jack’s direction.
His golden eyes burned with an unsettling intensity.
"Your pet should have gone for the head. If he had, this wouldn’t have happened."
A frown crossed the man’s face.
Jack’s grip tightened around his axe.
For the first time, he seemed to understand.
The words.
The damage.
The fact that Orvak was still alive despite suffering injuries that should have killed him.
Everything clicked together.
’Their passive trait.’
Right in front of his eyes, Orvak’s skin began knitting back into place with the speed of lightning.
The ruined flesh across his body rapidly regenerated.
Burnt skin peeled away as fresh tissue formed beneath it.
The destroyed muscles reconnected.
Bones rebuilt themselves.
Even the limbs that had been completely blown apart began reconstructing themselves from nothing.
Blue blood that had been pouring from his wounds slowed down.
Then stopped.
Jack’s eyes widened.
"Kaiser!" Jack shouted aloud.
The Wyvern didn’t need to be told twice.
It simply lunged forward with blazing momentum.
Its enormous wings spread wide as it propelled its massive body through the air.
Crossing the distance within a blink.
With Jack still on his back.
The wind screamed around them as Kaiser accelerated.
A second away from meeting Orvak, Jack kicked off his Wyvern’s back with his axe poised directly behind him.
His entire body shot forward like a projectile.
A two-way attack was now upon the Abberant, who was almost fully healed.
Kaiser approached from one direction.
Jack approached from another.
There was nowhere to escape.
"You might be using the sun rays to move as fast as the speed of light, but thanks to you..."
Orvak blinked out of view just as the man’s axe burrowed into the already cracking ground—shattering it all the more.
BOOM!
The earth beneath the axe split apart.
Jack’s eyes widened slightly.
He had missed.
Again.
Kaiser was able to halt his own attack and twirl around to see Orvak standing directly in front of him in the air.
The Abberant’s body was completely restored.
Not a single trace of the horrifying injuries from moments ago remained.
Pointing his hands forward, a sphere of black energy tore forward—rushing towards the Wyvern.
The sphere consumed the light around it as it traveled.
Swiftly crossing his wings in front of his face, the blast slammed into the Wyvern, sending it blasting backward for a metre before it flapped its wings in order to regain momentum.
The Wyvern’s claws scraped against the air as it fought to stabilize itself.
Jack spun around.
Without hesitation, he sent his axe hurling in Orvak’s direction.
The weapon tore through the air with tremendous force.
Orvak simply tilted his fully healed body slightly.
The axe tore past him with blazing momentum.
It missed by mere inches.
Jack’s eyes narrowed.
White light began running up and down Jack’s hands, causing the air around his arms to bend like an elastic.
The energy became denser.
Brighter.
The surrounding atmosphere warped around his arms as if the space itself was struggling to withstand the power gathering within them.
BOOOM—!
He bolted into the air.
His body shot forward with such speed that the air behind him exploded.
"... I’m faster."
Orvak completed his words before flickering out of view.
Jack’s eyes widened.
He couldn’t see him.
Not even a blur.
Then—
Orvak reappeared directly behind Jack.
Far faster than he had ever been before.
"And stronger."
BAM!
A roundhouse kick from Orvak sent Jack’s body crashing out of the air.
The impact twisted the man’s body violently before he was sent plummeting toward the ground.
BOOOOM!
Jack crashed into the earth.
The impact created a crater beneath him.
But the momentum didn’t stop there.
His body bounced across the battlefield.
Once.
Twice.
Three times.
He skipped across the earth like a stone across water.
Blood trickled out of the man’s mouth as he desperately clawed against the ground in order to stop his momentum.
His fingers dug deep into the dirt.
His boots dragged through the earth.
Finally—
He managed to slow himself down.
Jack raised his head.
His breathing was heavy.
His grip tightened.
But before he could even get back to his feet—
Orvak flickered out of view.
The Abberant appeared directly above Jack.
His leg was already raised.
A crushing axe kick from above descended towards the man’s body.
ROARRRRR!
Kaiser vanished.
The Wyvern reappeared directly in front of the Abberant.
With a powerful flap of his wings, a massive gust of wind smashed into the creature, sending it skidding backward—mid-air.
The force of the wind distorted the dust and debris surrounding them.
Orvak’s body slid backward through the air.
With the space given, Kaiser’s maws began opening wider and wider.
The muscles around its jaw tensed.
A brilliant white glow began forming deep within its throat.
Another concentrated blast was about to be unleashed.
But it wasn’t as if Orvak would stand there and let that happen.
His eyes narrowed.
His body suddenly shifted.
With a step to the side, the Abberant blurred towards the beast with his claws lashing forward and ready to smash it out of the air.
