Chapter 454
"Kuh...."
Ray collapsed to his knees.
His heart pounded loudly in his ears as his daggers slipped from his grasp and disappeared back into his system inventory.
His eyes stretched wide for a moment as he could feel it.
A strain in his muscles.
His muscles and veins tightened, threatening to burst open as if they weren’t able to handle the power he was throwing out.
’Wh-what is happening to me? It hasn’t even been up to five minutes yet.’
{I just warned you, dumbass. You were stacking too many skills atop your transformation, hence the reason for this backlash. Your resonance points are just too low to handle something like this.}
’Bu-But Bruce is able to stay out longer than this in a full transformation. Why am I getting this kind of a reaction?’
{I swear to the heavens, I want to smack you so bad. Didn’t you hear when I said you were stacking too many skills? Has Bruce used as many skills as this when fully transformed?}
"...."
Ray blinked.
He finally realised what was going on.
His only advantage was slowly going away.
Fur by fur, they were beginning to shed off.
His fangs retracted, his yellow eyes reverting back to their usual grey.
The transformation was disappearing.
He kept drawing ragged breaths while listening to the sounds of the battle unfolding around him.
The other Aspirants were currently throwing their exhausted all towards Silver, making sure she didn’t make a move towards the Tribrid.
They were barely standing themselves, yet they continued attacking.
"Ra-Ray, are you okay?"
Van and Kai rushed towards the boy.
The Tribrid simply lifted a hand while nodding.
"Ye-yeah. Just getting tired."
With another cough, he wiped a few specks of blood from his lips and stood back upright.
[Energy: 10/250]
[Meta-force: 0/500]
’Ah... I’m cooked.’
Trisha’s sword flashed through the air towards the Abberant, who intercepted it with her claws before sending her leg shooting towards the girl.
But with a twist of her ankle, Trisha swiveled to the side, watching as the leg shot past her frame.
Putting pressure on her feet, she felt the earth rumble beneath her before erupting into earth spikes which rushed towards the Abberant.
Seeing this, Silver began leaping backward, one by one.
She dodged the spikes while, at the same time, being forced to confront Trish, who was still pressuring her with her sword.
A strike here, followed smoothly by a double kick which crashed into Silver’s face.
Then an upward slash, which Silver blocked with a claw while her tail lashed forward in a counterattack.
But with a twist of her wrist, Trish pulled her sword back and blocked the tail strike.
Alas!
Silver’s foot rapidly approached.
An earth wall rose upward, snapping into place only to be crumbled by the Abberant’s foot.
Though the wall absorbed more than half the impact from the foot, it still carried on and hammered Trisha backward.
BAM!
The girl crashed into the ground, rolled for a second, before driving her sword into the earth to stop her body.
"Kuh...."
She coughed out a mouthful of blood.
Her body and stomach ached badly.
Probably a few broken bones.
She gritted her teeth as she forced herself to remain conscious.
A volley of attacks hurtled towards the Abberant, who batted each and every one of them away with stunning grace and agility.
Her blood was still streaming down her body from Ray’s previous attacks.
[Daigeto: She’s getting faster.]
Trisha slammed her hand on the ground and tried pushing herself up, only to feel a hand on her shoulder.
Turning around, she could see Ray standing there.
His transformation was almost completely gone now.
Only the exhaustion remained.
"It’s enough. I will have to do this....alone."
Trish lifted a brow as the sound of chaos ensued around them.
The cries of Aspirants as they were getting ripped open.
The constant explosions.
The screams.
The clash of abilities.
Lincoln pursued the Abberant, but he was barely able to catch up with Silver, who had decided to take care of the pests bothering her with their annoying attacks.
She went from street to street, leaping from building to building as she took out the Aspirants one after the other.
Trish stared into Ray’s eyes.
"Alone? Wha—wait! Are you a fool? There are cameras watching. The whole world is watching."
Ray tightened his grasp, then sighed.
Leaning forward for a moment, he felt his muscles coiling and tightening beneath his skin.
"Let them watch and see what I can do."
BOOOM!
And then, without wasting even a fraction of a second, he suddenly exploded forward in a terrifying, lightning-fast lunge.
Ray cut through the air with such speed that he passed Lincoln in a flash.
Weaving in between chimneys with the use of his boots, Ray listened as his gas oozed into the air.
And not only that, he could sense the drones following after him.
After all, he was the star of this show.
The only kid able to stand toe to toe with a Five-Spined Abberant that not even a Sergeant could handle.
Ray felt his heart pounding with every passing second as he caught sight of Silver’s back.
Dodging a building, going through a window, and bursting out the other way, Ray continued shooting forward with no care in the world.
"Ray!" Van’s panicked voice could be heard through his comm device.
But he didn’t listen.
Weaving in between two buildings which were tightly knit together, Ray mumbled.
"Full Recovery."
His body was immediately flooded with energy.
The previous exhaustion he felt washed off his body almost instantly.
And right before his eyes, his energy bar and meta-force bar began refilling at an astonishing rate.
He felt alive.
Stronger.
Almost faster.
All his skills that were on cooldown, including [Stealth], became available again.
Launching himself in between two beams of a building and passing through them all too easily, a golden lasso appeared in the boy’s hand.
He hurled it forward, sending it wrapping around a building across from where he was.
And in the streets between these buildings was Silver, calmly swatting futile attacks from an Aspirant who was moving backward in fear.
The Aspirant’s legs trembled as he kept unleashing everything he had until there was nothing left to unleash.
The lasso contracted.
Ray shot forward like an arrow released from a bow.
He catapulted with such force that his form caused a loud whistle to be heard as he tore through the air.
His eyes crackled.
Then—
"Bruce, you are next."
BOOOM!
An explosion of energy erupted outward with tremendous force.
This was the first time Bruce was coming out after Ray became a Tribrid Master.
The air trembled violently as sparks of obsidian energy crawled across Ray’s body.
His bones shifted and reformed at a massive rate.
His canines grew into fangs.
His eyes turned from grey to yellow.
His ears elongated at a speed far beyond human eyes.
Fur rapidly grew across his body.
His clothes began ripping open.
All the while, he was still mid-air, rapidly approaching a stunned Silver.
Then, with a resounding bang, Ray crashed into the earth a metre away from Silver.
BOOM!
A blanket of dust billowed into the air.
The drones moved out of the way immediately as an energy erupted from Ray’s body, blowing the dust away in a fierce storm.
"AWHOOOO!"
The howl tore through the street.
Lincoln, who was charging across a building, faltered mid-step as the dust cleared.
The other Aspirants who had been trying to chase after the Abberant also froze atop their respective buildings.
The drones panned across the whole street, causing shock to ripple through all the viewers watching what was standing before Silver.
Ray’s cohort and friends could be seen landing atop buildings as they looked at the wide street where Silver and Ray faced each other.
But that wasn’t Ray.
Standing in front of them was a creature that definitely didn’t look human at all.
Standing at four metres tall, the creature was covered in thick brown fur streaked with strands of silver, the coarse coat clinging tightly to its muscular frame.
Its black eyes burned with seething rage as they remained locked onto the Abberant.
With every breath, it released a low, rumbling growl that sounded like an ancient monster awakening from its slumber.
Each growl carried the deep, menacing resonance of a lion from an age long forgotten.
The creature stood upright on two legs like a human, but the resemblance ended there.
Its thighs alone were nearly twice as thick as an average human’s forearms, giving its lower body an incredible density and power.
Its two massive hands ended in thick, curved claws that looked capable of tearing through solid earth with a single swipe.
Rows of long, jagged teeth filled its mouth, accompanied by several prominent fangs that protruded from its upper jaw, further emphasizing its savage appearance.
Despite its immense strength, its body was athletically lean rather than bulky.
Well-defined muscles stretched across its torso, while faint outlines of abdominal muscles pushed beneath the thick layer of fur covering its stomach.
A broad snout protruded from its face, accompanied by a pair of pointed ears that gave it the unmistakable appearance of an oversized, feral dog.
In short, the creature looked like something ripped straight from a child’s worst nightmare—a monstrous beast brought to life.
Van’s gaze flickered to the drones.
He gulped.
’What have you done, Ray?’
