Chapter 463
From Wall Steel to Wall Diamond, screens lit up across the skyscrapers.
Screens as wide as billboards illuminated simultaneously.
Humans could be seen walking through the streets, going about their day, when the screens suddenly flickered to life.
Some people halted immediately.
Others continued walking for a few seconds before the familiar voice of a news anchor began to play.
[PDD NEWS]
A woman appeared on the screens with a neutral expression. She wore formal attire, her gaze fixed directly at the camera, making it seem as though she were looking straight at the people below.
"Good morning, beautiful people of Alcatraz. I’m your one and only favourite news anchor, Stella.
"It’s been three weeks since the Abberants invaded our beautiful continent of Alcatraz, in a span of a year since the last.
"Humanity suffered huge losses here and there. The Aspirants, the Militants, and even some civilians were lost on that fateful day.
"It was truly a bloody day, and we shouldn’t have to go through something like that ever again. That’s why the Vanguard keeps fighting, while the Corps keeps breeding geniuses who will help in this fight against the Abberants."
The woman paused for a second.
By now, even those who had been carrying on with their day had stopped to listen to what the news anchor had to say.
".... Though we lost a lot that day, we were able to prevent these creatures from achieving their aim.
"They didn’t destroy our food factory, and they definitely didn’t eliminate the Aspirant Corps. Most importantly, they didn’t take out Wall Steel the way they took out Wall Rose.
"The only thing we lost was the biggest shelter we had, which fell during the battle between Jack Kyre—a Big Four member—and a Six-Spined Abberant.
"But we thank heavens because, for the past three weeks, Jack Kyre has taken it upon himself to rebuild the shelter by pooling all available resources.
"So, within a week or two, the shelter should have been rebuilt again."
Some viewers glanced at one another before nodding.
"He’s kind."
"Isn’t it his duty to do so? Wasn’t he the one who destroyed it during the battle? So it’s right for him to be the one rebuilding it."
The news anchor continued:
"That’s not all. During the battle with a Five-Spined Abberant, we lost a few Aspirants—young, promising kids who could have become something in the future.
"And on that day, a shocking revelation was shown to humanity worldwide.
"A creature we thought existed only in fantasies, a mythical creature, had been hiding amongst the Aspirants for months.
"It turns out that a Werewolf is real.
"An Aspirant who is a Werewolf managed to battle the Five-Spined Abberant and stopped her from causing even more deaths.
"And that same creature has been in custody for the past three weeks. After the Vanguard Order took him into custody, no news has been revealed about him.
"Whether the Aspirant... the Werewolf... is alive or not, we don’t know.
"Whether it’s truly a threat or not, we don’t know.
"But what we do know is that, without that Werewolf, we would have lost a lot that day.
"We await more information from the Vanguard Order, and if we receive any new report, we will inform you all."
Stella nodded at the camera, maintaining the same professional smile.
"I remain your one and only news anchor, Stella. Stay tuned to PDD News for more reports about the occurrences of our world."
The screens all went blank at once.
For several seconds, the city remained unusually quiet.
Then, one after another, the screens lit up again and began displaying different advertisements.
....
In an unknown location, inside a specific room that had not a single source of light, a heavy metallic door could be seen guarding the only entry and exit from the room.
The room was sparse, without a single object in sight.
The darkness was suffocating, almost as if shadows had covered the entire place, leaving barely a single dot of light in view.
Inside this room, a soft breathing sound could be heard.
And if one traced the sound and looked closer, they would see a single chair in the middle of the room.
And in this chair sat a figure who looked to be in his early twenties.
But in truth, he was only sixteen.
This figure was chained to the chair like livestock.
His hands were behind the back of the chair, handcuffed with the strongest cuffs the Vanguard owned.
He wore a sleeveless black shirt with a pair of black pants and black shoes.
His head hung as low as it could without being restricted by the chains.
His silver hair fell over his face as he stared lifelessly at the ground beneath his feet.
Though the room was heavily darkened, the absence of light had no hold over his incredible eyesight.
The ground beneath his feet was made entirely out of the strongest metallic substance known to man.
In fact,
The cuffs, the door, the chains, and even the ceiling above him were made out of the same metallic substance.
The strongest humanity knew.
Something they hoped this Werewolf wouldn’t be able to break out of.
That’s right,
This figure was none other than Ray Dawson.
His grey eyes looked lifeless, but in truth, he wasn’t in control of his body.
Since the day they threw him into this room and bound him, he had left the chair and gone to sit with Elyon in his mindspace.
He would rather chat with the Celestial than remain bound to a chair, staring at the darkness.
For the past three weeks, he hadn’t seen sunlight.
Not a single ray.
And neither had anybody visited him at all.
Though there were guards outside his holding room, he could sense them.
They hadn’t ever walked into this room, which in turn meant that he hadn’t eaten or drunk a single drop of water in three weeks.
Luckily, his metabolism was different.
But that didn’t mean that he wasn’t famished.
Probably due to his Werewolf bloodline, which required food almost every time, he was still hungry.
He wasn’t even sad that his friends hadn’t visited because he was definitely sure that the Vanguard wouldn’t let them.
And just as he was getting bored of conversing with Elyon, the sound of bolts being moved could be heard.
Slowly, for the first time in three weeks, the door opened.
A figure stepped inside.
