Chapter 469

FIVE DAYS LATER!

Across the important high-rise buildings stretching from Wall Steel to Wall Diamond, massive screens suddenly lit up.

A female news anchor appeared across every screen, forcing passers-by who had been going about their usual day to stop and look up.

The last time this particular news anchor had appeared live, she had promised to bring them more information about the monster.

[PDD NEWS]

"Good day, beautiful people of Alcatraz. I’m your one and only beautiful news anchor, Stella."

She smiled brightly toward the camera.

"It’s officially been a month since the Abberants’ invasion, and though they aimed to cripple us, unfortunately for them, they didn’t succeed."

Stella shuffled the papers in her hands.

"The Shelter that was destroyed during the battle between Jack Kyre and the Six-Spined Abberant has been fully rebuilt with the help of the Head of the Kyre Family."

Her smile widened.

"Now, civilians and survivors can move in with no issue whatsoever. We thank Jack Kyre for this."

Those watching barely reacted to the news.

Most of them didn’t care.

They were anxiously waiting for what Stella would say next.

"...We have been searching for any signs of Abberant activity so far, but luckily, there are none. So, humanity is safe for now and, hopefully, for the foreseeable future."

Stella shuffled the papers in her hands once more before clearing her throat.

"Ahem..."

Her expression became more serious.

"Information reaching us is that the Aspirant Werewolf will be undergoing trial at Wall Diamond tomorrow morning."

The moment those words left her mouth, several people watching became more attentive.

"This trial will determine whether he should be executed or not, and it will be covered by the famous livestreamer we have, Bonny."

Stella lifted her gaze toward the camera.

"This event tomorrow will be streamed live for each and every one of us to see the fate of this Werewolf."

She paused.

"Furthermore—"

Nobody was listening anymore.

Across the streets, conversations erupted.

People began whispering and murmuring amongst themselves.

— Wow. A trial, huh? I wonder what sort of trial it will be.

— Fuck whatever type of trial it is. I just want that Werewolf gone. Ever since I saw him appear on my screen that day, I couldn’t sleep a wink. I was shaking because I kept seeing his image in front of me.

— Ha. Weakling. But you are right. Humanity doesn’t need a new threat right now. He needs to be gone.

— You guys are forgetting that this Werewolf is just sixteen years old. How cruel can you all be, wanting a kid gone?

— Sure. A kid that could bite your head off without blinking an eye. Fool.

From Wall Steel to Wall Diamond, almost every conversation revolved around one person.

Ray Dawson.

Schools.

Factories.

Workplaces.

Workstations.

His name was on everyone’s lips.

Even children weren’t spared.

In a certain school for children between five and ten years old, a teacher stood in front of her students as the television continued displaying the news.

— Teacher, what does a trial mean?

The teacher smiled gently before turning off the television.

"It means a case will be held to determine if the Werewolf is safe to be left alive or not."

One of the children frowned.

— Tch. I hope he is kept safe. The Werewolf was awesome in the battle against that Abberant.

Another kid’s eyes lit up.

— Exactly! Did you see him punch that Abberant through a building? Then he grabbed her and smashed her into the ground like it was wrestling. He’s so strong!

Another child raised his hand.

— Teacher, will he be killed?

The teacher stared at the children for a few seconds.

Then she sighed and shook her head.

"We will know tomorrow."

.....

Even high school students were discussing the upcoming event after the television was turned off.

— Oh man. I hope they don’t kill him. He looks handsome in both his human and Werewolf forms.

A girl beside her looked at her comrade in disgust.

— Ew. I can’t imagine you daydreaming about a literal monster. And I’m sure you’re even getting wet for him while there are hundreds of better-looking guys in this school alone.

— Allow her to have her fantasies. She’s not even wrong, to begin with.

Another girl shrugged.

"Besides, if it wasn’t for him, a lot more people would have died that day."

— Still doesn’t change the fact that Werewolves are flesh-eating monsters. If we let him live and we’re on the battlefield, what happens if he suddenly starts ripping flesh apart while we’re fighting the Abberants?

The section where the girls had been discussing immediately fell silent.

Humanity was torn between two choices.

Should they leave the Werewolf alive?

Or should they kill him before he became a threat?

.....

Meanwhile, the Werewolf in question was sitting inside a holding cell with his head hanging low.

His grown-out silver hair fell over his face as he remained completely still.

Then—

Clack.

The door to the room was unbolted.

Ray slowly lifted his head.

A dozen men entered the room, with Captain Ella standing at the front.

Ray’s grey eyes swept across the men before he huffed and raised a brow.

"Why are you all so far away?"

He chuckled dryly.

"Oh, come on. I don’t bite..."

He paused.

"I hope."

Neither the men nor Captain Ella said a word.

They simply stared at the boy chained to a chair as though he were livestock.

Ray sighed.

"Sigh... What is it? What do you want with me now?"

Ella looked toward the men standing behind her.

Then she gave them a subtle gesture with her eyes.

The dozen men immediately rushed forward.

Clack! Clack! Clack!

One after another, they began unlocking the chains binding Ray to the chair.

Then came the handcuffs.

Ray raised a brow as he watched them work.

Within a minute, every chain and handcuff had been removed from his body.

He looked down at his freed hands.

Then he turned toward Ella with a confused expression.

"Stand up."

She ordered.

Ray frowned.

He planted his feet beneath himself and attempted to rise.

His legs immediately gave out.

Thud!

He crashed face-first onto the floor.

"Ugh..."

Ray groaned.

"See what you all caused?"

He lifted his head slightly.

"Now my limbs feel like jelly. Any help here?"

Ella sighed.

The men quickly moved forward and helped Ray back onto his feet.

The Tribrid stumbled several times, his legs barely able to support his weight after spending three weeks chained to a chair.

The men held him firmly until he managed to steady himself.

Ella stared at the Tribrid for a moment before turning around.

"We will be transporting you to Wall Diamond now."

Ray’s expression became slightly more serious.

"Tomorrow, your trial begins."

His heart skipped a beat.

Ray stared at the Captain’s back.

But Ella was already walking away.

The men began guiding Ray toward the exit of the holding cell, preparing to take him to the transport waiting outside.

It would take several hours to reach Wall Diamond, which meant the journey needed to begin immediately.

Ray took one final glance behind him.

His eyes seemed to focus on nothing in particular.

Yet two figures stood directly behind the chair in his mind.

Elyon.

And Bruce.

Both were sharing his vision of the outside world.

Ray smiled faintly.

’Tomorrow, huh?’

His gaze remained forward as the men escorted him out.

’Best of luck to us, guys.’
